if it is displaying something that would be the screen saver. Going to sleep means not showing anything

I guess I just consider them to be the same mode, but you are probably technically correct. Sleep mode on some things puts them in a low power standby mode and is used as a misnomer so I would consider this to be that kinda thing where it goes idle and doesn't update until woken back up.
