Just recently got an automatic cat feeder. Not only do I need an app for it, but it requires an internet connection. If it wasn’t second-hand and dirt cheap I wouldn’t have gotten it. I don’t want smart appliances—I want all my home appliances to be stupid.
Edit: I forgot the best feature. If the manufacturer has a service outage it won’t actually work and can’t dispense food.
It's a bit overkill, but access to the internet makes timers so much easier.
The onboard clock is never going to be very accurate, and if it loses power the timer is just gone. Also it doesn't work at all to set a timer for a specific day/time unless you require the person to input the current date and time.
