Ruined by Technology When we’re not looking, Alexa displays the wrong time. I finally caught her on video.

Alexa can see?! (Never owned one so I have no idea) Or it can sense people like using ir rays?

There's tiny men living inside it watching and listening

Any way I can extract them out or alexa and use them for other chores?

You can only use them for other purposes if you get the paid subscription+. And even then, I heard they can be used for evil by default.

Oh, please, all this Alexa bashing is beginning to get ridiculous. "Subscription services are bad!" "Multinational megacorps are spying on me!" "The little men that can only be used for evil cost too much!" "Alexa is where all the souls of the dead are used to train artificial intelligence and once Amazon merges with Boston Dynamics the souls will be installed into robot dogs and take revenge on the living by clamping our necks off as we sleep!"

Boo hoo. So what? Getting your neck clamped by a haunted robot dog is just the wave of the future. Don't like it? Go be Amish.

What if mine went rogue, tatooed their whole bodies blue and started stealing livestock?

Simply put: radar works by monitoring the return bounce of soundwaves. Wifi signals can be used in much the same way. Any device that emits and receives wifi can see you.

the device heard a voice prompt

I'm guessing you mask up walking amongst trees, lmao

Can they see all of me?

You described sonar. Radar uses radio waves.

In a janky way they also were right with sound waves as these use ultrasound instead of radar.

Too many variables. Lets just call it voodoo witchcraft.

Looks like the Echo Show.  It has a camera.  It was marketed that you'd be able to have it take your picture, and then it'd give you a little "virtual try on" of clothing from the amazon store.

The camera is sufficient for detecting movement, obviously.

Although I think the show also uses ultrasound.

In a very inefficient way though, basically just a worse version of a dedicated presence sensor. I think it works not by bouncing actual RF pings off the target but by monitoring signal level changes in received packets (against known references, i.e. stationary wifi devices like a printer) when someone gets in the way.

That used to be a conspiracy theory

Some modern home PCs use/sell it as a feature that wakes the PC up as you enter the room or approach it.

If you actually watched the video, a voice prompt was what prompted the display to respond.

But you didn't.

Did you even watch the video?
