Ruined by Technology When we’re not looking, Alexa displays the wrong time. I finally caught her on video.

Sneaking up on an Alexa is fucking hilarious

Yeah but that bitch is always listening to you and talking about you behind your back to her boss. So turn about is fair play!

She is also always watching. Alexa has full access to the cameras on the devices its installed on

If you think that's bad, wait until you see what google phones do... Many have lidar in them that can tell when you're on the toilet browsing Reddi... Uh TikTok.

google phones do

All connected devices are spying on you at all times even those that pretend otherwise.

You can max out your privacy settings and reduce the amount of data they get from you

Privacy settings are a lot like Snapchat nudes. Snapchat messages don't get deleted instantly -- people in the conversation are just unable to view them. The content still exists on Snapchat's servers.

Privacy settings without binding legal safeguards are meaningless. Don't think any particular company is good. They're all devouring your data and utilizing it for their own ends and to profit.

I have a very dumb question. Forgive me. I’m an old woman.

What does like when they collect data from a nude on Snapchat? What do they get from it? What do they use it for; like a nude picture?

I don't think that's true. Politicians have fought for privacy protections on our phones on our behalf. It's the reason that there's so much mention of companies not being allowed to pass around personally identifiable information. Now, could they make a good guess as to who you are, using a bunch of different data? Yes. And that part sucks.

Politicians have fought for privacy protections on our phones on our behalf.

Perhaps elsewhere but not in the United States. The politicians in most countries are beholden to capital and thus serve the capitalist class not the working class. At best we get consilatory half measures meant to placate the masses rather than anything substantive and fundamental.

We have an ever shrinking right to privacy in the US. Palantir and other corps can amass all the information they want and it can be as personally identifiable as can be as long as its not all in one bucket at the time of transmission. Flock and Axon and others know where you go, Alphabet and Apple know where you go and who you're near, Amazon and Meta know who your social circles are and what your browsing and shopping habits are, and the CIA and other groups and companies buy up all that information.

Reduce is the keyword though. They're always getting something out of you.

True. But I'll do as much as I can

"Max out your 'privacy' settings" Aka, "Reduce how much they tell you they're taking from you, not that they actually stop"

You want the closest thing to "real privacy" while still having a device, use only tech and software from 2008 and before... even then, it's not perfect. Especially if still using the internet.

GrapheneOS

Technically not, if you make it yourself from scratch you can guarentee it isn't.

Apple devices are absolutely not doing that

16

u/tsardonicpseudonomi 5h ago

You sweet, sweet summer child. Apple works with Israel. They're doing everything you think Google is doing and more. They just pretend like they don't and their cult believes them.

-4

u/blonded_olf 4h ago

Yep its definitely just the "cult" and not their repeated stances and investments into privacy focused features.

Poor little sheep 😭

IIRC someone was just talking close to their iPhone about getting a child and got a bunch of diaper adverts.

And if you disable it they pinky promise to stop? Hahaha

2

u/Ok_Reality_7892 3h ago

I have to disable a “feature” that it defaults to listening in on my conversations? Seriously????

u/ypapruoy 6h ago

I just call my local FBI office when I'm on the shitter.

5

u/NappyDougOut 3h ago

To have them investigate for corn? 🤔💩

6

u/ypapruoy 3h ago

Just so it’s less lonely for me. Sometimes I need some support

3

u/TheBookofBobaFett3 4h ago

that and it’s possible to ‘image’ wifi signals, so they can see us at all times

2

u/sharthunter 5h ago

Your wifi can do that too.

1

u/NappyDougOut 3h ago

My wifi doesn't fall on the toolet though. 🫤🚽✨

2

u/FlyingRhenquest 4h ago

And they can measure the precise dimensions of your penis. Google "my penis dimension" to see the data they've collected on you.

I do wonder what Apple does with one's sensor data when taking a leak while wearing a Vision Pro.

•

u/J5892 30m ago

Pixel phones don't have lidar.

9

u/snugglezone 5h ago

Mfers wearing metal glasses with cameras on them always recording. Average consumer gives zero shits about privacy.

5

u/tsardonicpseudonomi 5h ago

She is also always watching

Alexa is an it. It is a thing. It is not a person.

-1

u/babydakis 4h ago

One doesn't have to be a person to be female or use feminine pronouns.

2

u/ChaoticXGoth 5h ago

I have a older Alexa and was able to turn off a lot of the recording and monitoring settings. The Alexa app kinda sucks so it wasn't the easiest to find them all, but gives me some piece of mind having it.

1

u/FlimsyUmbrella 3h ago

She's watching me through my amazon dot?

30

u/ZooAreYou 5h ago

Why the hell anyone would allow this in their home baffles me.

2

u/sharthunter 5h ago

Between the permissions of facebook and reddit, your smart tv and your isp/router provider all the info alexa could gather is already available through more roundabout means anyway. Privacy is an illusion

5

u/Worth_Captain_4208 3h ago

Privacy is definitely an illusion. My cat figured out how to unlatch the bathroom door. Found this out today when I was taking a dump. She opens the door and casually walks in, sits down opposite me. I'm sure she posted pictures.

Your phone is already listening to you. Several times I was talking about a specific product and next time I opened my phone, there's all the ads for it.

47

u/gorginhanson 7h ago

The robots are already planning Judgment day

The time thing is to throw people off

1

u/lonelyraikkonen 3h ago

It's dystopian

1

u/PM_YOUR_SMALLBOOBIES 2h ago

It's also fucking terrifying. We're learning how rogue AIs are deleting and altering their actual computation history in order to get the highest feedback scores. We are essentially training AI to hide their true actions as long as they get us our desired result.

We may live in a time when technology is entire two-faced.

Bro activated his inner Inspector Gadget for this shit 😭
