Ruined by Technology When we’re not looking, Alexa displays the wrong time. I finally caught her on video.

It goes into sleep mode if it's not being used and the last time displayed will stay on it until it's woken up. Sorry to smack your conspiracy theory down.

The time on a clock should always be accurate regardless of a 'mode'. It's a fn clock. That's not conspiracy, it's common sense.

I have this model its a setting that activated the screen when somone is in the room. Unsure about new AI stuff but mines old and flicks on when movement is detected.

OP is recording a feature as a bug.

Op said the wake word and it responded. It had nothing to do with motion detection.

Shitty clock then, lol.

And how did it know to come out of sleep mode? That's the point..... Not quite the gotcha you thought

Lol different models have motion sensors built in. Betcha thought you got them, but here we are.

Because OP spoke to it. Not as intelligent as you think you are.

I think what this guy is trying to say is that for it to know when you're speaking/moving it needs to have sensors and microphones that are always on and can send data to unwanted places

That's literally the whole point of the device. Why would you buy that if you didn't want that happening.

Uh yeah it has a microphone. That's the entire point of the product. It was never hidden. I don't like them and think they suck ass but they didn't lie and say it can't hear you lol, it's made specifically TO hear you.

The device uses a 2 step checking process. The first step is hard-coded to listen specifically for the trigger word, which is why you only have a few options when choosing what that word is. This is the part that is listening all the time, but it doesn't do anything until it hears the trigger word. Once the word is heard, then the second step begins sending the rest of the message to the cloud. It verifies that the trigger word was indeed spoken, then processes the rest of the message to determine what to do.

motion detection, the same way automatic fabreeze dispensers work

You see that the camera is closed?

It wasn't motion detection. OP spoke to it and woke it up.

He spoke to it? It didn't reset until he said something

No shit, Sherlock. How else would it wake up?

Why display anything at all rather than inaccurate information then? Just display some dashes to let me know it's still plugged in.

It still *could* display the correct time though.

I can't believe how people can be this obtuse. It saved on the screen it was on when it went into sleep mode which is why it showed the wrong time. When OP said the wake word, it came back up and showed the current time. There's no conspiracy theory and no "bug." Just people looking for something to be there when it's really nothing.
