Turn off the new AI version of Alexa. You can fix it in the settings. The programmatic one is/was better. They're threatening to remove it at some point but if enough people make the switch back, I bet they won't.
When I asked the New Alexa how much water she uses she told me she uses 30x times the water of the old one. For a shittier product! I reverted to the old one.
To do this, you must say something like “Alexa cancel beta access” or “Alexa cancel Alexa+”
It was making me so mad— new voice, responses 5 seconds slower because now it has to “think” instead of accessing pre-built commands (I’m guessing, I’m not a data plumber)
Anyway, if your Alexa has the new valley girl voice, you’re in “Alexa+” and you need to “cancel”
I remember reading Orwell's 1984 in high school in the 80s. The whole thing seemed a distant remote possibility, but the thing I thought would never be allowed by common people was a screen in their homes that spied on them. Little did I know that not only would they exist in many forms, from TVs to computers to automobiles, but that people would stand in line to be the first to own the newest versions that they would carry with them everywhere.
I've said the same thing. But if they take over it sure would help me with my explosive anger problems brought on by menopause. I'm perpetually itching to beat the shit out of something. It's prison that keeps me from doing bad things. I think I'd be a horrible inmate.

The only thing I have in this genre is Siri. I chose the Australian dude because he’s cute. I always ask please and say thank you. I think I’ll try flirting with him to see how that goes.
Mine keeps forcing Prime ads or trying to make me buy stuff on sale with every other prompt. Ill ask it to turn off the lights, it'll do it, then go off on a whole speech about what amazing deals they have on
Basically have it reduced to an alarm clock now, and even thats only because my phones alarm isnt loud enough sometimes lmao
I agree and I believe that is our future hellscape. For now though, an offline alarm clock that doesn't listen constantly for your magic word to command it while you fuck is a better alarm than an Alexa/Nest/etc.
My lights have started coming on and turning off by themselves. I've reset the lights to factory settings and they still keep doing it. They're not all the same lights either, but they are all hooked up to Alexa. They don't have any routines. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, reset, etc.
My echo studio changed it's wake word by itself the other week. I was FURIOUS with it. Yelling and yelling like a madman until my 10 year old pointed out the possible problem - and of course he was right.
They remember shit you said recently, I think it's style llm style chat bot update. Also the new voice has vocal fry and fake breathing. I hate it. You're not a person.
Yep. I said that I wanted to watch a movie and it wasn't on the thing. And then days later it was on there. This mf is either listening or reading my mind.
Nah I mean like, the other day my kid said hi to it and it asked what she was up to. She said getting ready to go to school. A little while later she said hi again and it said 'still getting ready for school?' I don't like it, and a few years ago this is not what this thing could do or would do.
I don't like it either. Mine has also started saying things, "I got you." (As in, I got you friend.), and "What's up?" There was something it said the other day that was a genz saying. I cannot remember what it was but I didn't like it lol. It was just strange hearing a robot say these things.
That's the new alexa plus, turn if off in settings. The new one, like the gemini assistant on androids, don't work as well, despite what the marketing tells you.
Mine never listens to me when I say, “Announce.” When it finally does, after like 4 tries, it announces me saying, “ALEXA, ANNOUNCE!!” & doesn’t even put the “time for dinner” part in there🤦🏻♀️
Alexa+ is literal garbage. She ‘upgraded’ and now can’t do hardly any of the very basic tasks I used to use it for — like play/pause the TV, easily understand what Alexa skill I want opened to play things, turn on certain smart home things.
The worst by far though is how laughably pathetic it is at playing the Jeopardy skill now. As it’s Jeopardy you have to say “who/what is <answer>”. Now instead of letting you answer like that, it will interrupt the whole game session to answer you as if you’re asking it to Alexa herself. So I’ll know the answer but then Alexa will just be prattling on as if I asked her who Thomas Jefferson was.
I figured out how to change the wake word from "Alexa" to "Computer" since that seemed a lot cooler, but I eventually realized a shorter simpler one would be better, so I switch to just "Echo" and that has worked way better.
Nah she never did. I've learned "stop the alarm" doesn't work very often. But "shut the fuck up" does. That used to be my third attempt, now it's my first.

I'm constantly cussing at mine for not listening when prompted. I swear they used to work better.
