Infuriatig Can’t go into my local pharmacy as I’m allergic to dogs and asthmatic
Guess I won’t be getting my meds

u/R606D 20h ago
Can you call them and ask if they'll bring it outside?

u/FlyingSquirelOi 20h ago
Probably a legal issue of drugs needing to be sold in the store and not just outside the front door.
8
u/BinaryHippie 20h ago
Or call and ask kindly to get the dog outside
Or have some patience for them to leave

Bro. Prescriptions are shipped by USPS and delivered by local carriers all day long. Presumably past the doors, lol.
1
u/FlyingSquirelOi 19h ago
Yeah my local pharmacy delivers too but that’s only prescription stuff, can’t get over the counter stuff delivered. Also idk where OP lives.

u/stopsallover 20h ago
Probably? That's the same as saying you don't know.
It would likely require disclosures be signed on paper or app(?). That's the limitation that I would imagine.

u/FlyingSquirelOi 20h ago
Yeah I don’t know? I don’t know where op is or what the laws and rules are? Weird comment.

Genuine question, but how do people with dog allergies this severe deal with the fact that it’s illegal to kick out guide dogs and other service animals. Like complaining about pets that could be left outside is one thing but it’s impossible to guarantee that a shop has not been used by or is currently occupied by someone with a service dog which can trigger the same reaction as a pet.

u/Fun_Description_385 20h ago
You could wait.
You could call them and explain the situation you're currently encountering.
You could politely explain to the individual with the dog through the door your issues.
Many options.

u/spei180 20h ago
You truly can’t be within 2 feet of a dog ever? Like you will have to be rushed to the hospital? Or will you maybe feel a bit uncomfortable and are trying to avoid that?
11
u/FancyFudge7514 20h ago
I don't know the severity of OP's symptoms but I also have Asthma and a severe allergy (in my case it's cats, not dogs). I wouldn't be able to go into an enclosed space with a cat inside. I would immediately get an asthma attack and I would need to use my emergency inhaler. If that is enough I would need to take a shower and wash all the clothes I was wearing. If the inhaler is not enough I would need to go to a doctor.
Asthma attacks are super scary (imagine your throat closing and not being able to breathe). Asthma attacks can also be deadly. So yeah, it's not just uncomfortable.

u/Constant-External-85 20h ago
I can tell when there's a cat in a house because as soon as I walk in because I can feel my face warm up and my sinuses start to close.
When I was younger, just the cat dander in the air used to trigger an asthma attack, swollen eyes, and runny nose.
That's when the cat was hiding, let alone a dog that get's excited to see people; Getting scratched by a dog would also trigger a bad response for me too.

u/eugeneugene 20h ago
My dad is so allergic when he visits I move my cats to my in laws house and air out my house and literally wash the walls and baseboards and wash all the linens and vacuum everything I can for multiple days and he still can only last an hour or two with benadryl without having a reaction lol. We do all this work so they can stay in a hotel and be able to hang at our house occasionally 🤣

Are you being this combative for any specific reason, or just because you have a massive boner for dOgS and dislike when people disagree with you?

u/spei180 20h ago
We are sitting here in mildly infuriating subreddit. It’s an honest question.

We are sitting here in mildly infuriating subreddit
Yes, thats exactly my point.
it's an honest question.
No its not. Its disingenuous as heck and you know it.
And even still, your point fails to land. Are you saying people who are mildly allergic to animals should just "deal with it" when that animal is in a place it shouldnt be? Like no, screw that. It doesnt just stop when the animal goes away then, either. It lasts.

u/Cantmakeupnewname 19h ago
Is it an assistance dog, because if it is then it is somewhere it’s allowed to be.
3
u/Longjumping_Ice1789 19h ago
If its somewhere its allowed to be, then thats not what im referring to, is it?
But more importantly, "assistance dog" is not a recognized term, and the terminology is actually very important here. If you knew the first thing about this topic, you would know that - so why are you talking about something you know nothing about? Because u <3 doggos :) ?

u/Cantmakeupnewname 19h ago
Guide dog then. You lot want to ban guide dogs from pharmacies, a place that a registered blind person will no doubt have to bring their dog into! And don’t say you aren’t agreeing that guide dogs should be banned from medical places because you are. No, they shouldn’t be banned from medical places.
There are ways for OP to get the attention of the staff in there, tapping a window is one of them.

Do you ever listen to people, ever? I dont want to ban this. I comprehend the reason.
The issue is that "service animals" (which are allowed in some places at some times) are far less common than "support animals" (which are just peoples pets that they like to have around, and have no protections). You werent using either term at all, so clearly youre ignorant to this concept as a whole.
There are ways for OP to get the attention of the staff in there, tapping a window is one of them.
You know a blind person could do this then too, right? Blind people have the ability to tap a window. Why shouldn't they be the one to tap on the window instead of bringing in the dog? I'm not saying they should do that; i'm just saying your "logic" is laughable

I’m allergic as well but I could surely visit the shop for 5 minutes
2
u/matchafoxjpg 20h ago
they literally said they're asthmatic.
someone with asthma can have an asthma attack when subjected to an allergen.

u/Junior-Inflation-704 20h ago
your allergy and hers are not the same hers could for sure be that severe
1
u/Jarvisnamesake 20h ago
I’m really sorry you’re also allergic, it’s such an awkward thing to have with dogs being everywhere. If the shop allows dogs, I can’t go in as I’m top level allergic. It’s horrible. I’m in the uk. This is a medical setting that provides medication through the nhs. It sells things, but isn’t a shop. I can’t walk past that dog in a confined setting without having a major flare up. Begs the question for health purposes and people like ourselves, should animals be allowed in medical settings?

What if it's a guide dog or a support animal?
1
u/Jarvisnamesake 20h ago
To be fair, I’ve only ever seen one of those in my local area in my 47 years of living.
1
u/Cantmakeupnewname 19h ago
There are a lot of them around. I see a few of them quite regularly. There’s one at my daughter’s school every day.

The amount of pets I see in stores these days is ridiculous. Keep your PETS home.
1
u/Cantmakeupnewname 19h ago
Pets at home encourage folk to bring their dogs in as they have an instore vet, In store groomers and some of them even host puppy/ dog socialising classes in store.

u/Thesinistral 20h ago
Not saying it’s legit (ADA doesn’t require any external ID and fake ones are common online) but appears that dog has a red tag on their collar.
Yes, it is a bit hard to ID fakers but it’s better than denying legitimate access.

everyone in the comments are acting like you called the FBI over this. Like this is a reasonable thing to be mildly infuriated about.

It’s perfectly fine to wait or call and explain too, nothing to get upset about.
2
u/Jarvisnamesake 20h ago
They aren’t answering the calls. The dander is already there even when the dog is gone.
1
u/Colossus252 20h ago
I always wonder if there's not some degree of things like this just causing additional issue because of being so in your head about it that you end up basically placeboing yourself into extra symptoms.
If your asthma is so sensitive that you cannot visit this store even after the dog has left... Then you cannot ever go anywhere. Almost any place has had at least a service animal go through at some point, most likely. The person with the dog in the photo likely isn't a new customer, and there's a good chance that very dog has been there before. Have you been inside there before? Would the effect be different if you hadn't even known the dog was there?
Not making fun of you, just makes me think.

u/gamerkittie269 20h ago
Is there a drive through area you could get your meds without coming in contact with the animal?
2
u/Jarvisnamesake 20h ago
I’m in a small village in the UK. Only drive through we have is here when we fill up for petrol haha
2
u/gamerkittie269 20h ago
Ah, that really sucks. I live in a small town in the US and have to go to the next town over to get meds.
1
u/Special-Concert-8250 20h ago
unrelated to your post, yo said “petrol” ….. A bit cheeky innit, we call it GAS eagle firework gun!
2
u/FastChampionship2628 20h ago
That's crazy - report them to the local health dept for the dog being in there. That's not ok.

u/greenyashiro 20h ago
I'd say just grab a coffee or something and come back in a few minutes, but if your allergies are so severe then no place is safe even afterwards because dust and fur traces will be left behind. Not just today but other days too.
Easy solution seems to be call, or wear a n95 mask, or get friend / family to pick it up for you

u/MikeTiricoSucks 20h ago
This is the end result of when everyone needs a support dog to go to CVS and everyone has ADHD and autism and peanut allergies

I’m allergic to dogs with asthma also I find taking an antihistamine helps. But most pharmacies have another secure entrance where they give medication privately. It’s usually for people on 2 certain medications that need supervision. You could ask them if you could use this instead, as you go into a different part of the pharmacy.
1
u/Fatal_Syntax_Error 20h ago
They make masks that will help you in public places where air quality might not be healthy for someone asthmatic. I understand it’s not favorable to wear a mask but if it’s QoL I’m wearing one.

u/saintscoutt 20h ago
Dogs in public needs to stop being normalized
1
u/Artemis2462 20h ago
Correction. PETS in public need to stop being normalized.
2
u/DuckyHornet 20h ago
It's always dogs, though. Nobody's trying to bring their cat everywhere, but goddamn do these clingy dog owners insist the dog comes to work or in the shop or the restaurant
1
u/Artemis2462 20h ago
Yeah but I just meant that there's a difference between pet dogs and service dogs. Pets of any kind have no business being in public spaces not built for animals

And you definitely don't understand what the person you're responding to meant lol.
2
u/Artemis2462 20h ago
Yes but not all dogs are simply pets. Plenty are there for medical purposes. That's why it's important to say pets instead of dogs in general

If your allergy is truly that severe I dont know how you can go outside.
That being said they make full face hazmat masks. Although again, if your allergy is truly so bad that you cant get your rxs I wonder how you got by without one before.
-3
u/Artemis2462 20h ago
Surely a mask and some allergy pills can help with this..and of not just wait or go to a different pharmacy.
