I need help

I’m a Junior in high school and I take a fabrication class and I can make any project I please. I asked my step dad and he asked me if I could make a Hibachi Grill. I’m very unfamiliar with what it is but I got a reference to what it looks like and he said to make it rectangular so it would be easier for him to move. I looked online for plans and couldn’t find any. Would anyone be willing to send me plans or work something out? I’m currently unsure what to do or how to go about.

The hibachi I'm familiar with are cast in iron. Is that how you're planning to make yours? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibachi

The second photo is what I know as a hibachi. However, I've seen some garbage ones made of maybe 14 gauge sheet metal. You need the thickness -- 1/8" =~ 11 gauge -- to take the heat without burning through.

"made of metal", lol

Even when I was in metal shop (back in the 70s) there was no way they were going to let ANYBODY do cast iron! But, you're going to make this. OK. Use steel.

You'll need some fairly thick steel., perhaps 3/16-1/4". Weld and grind until you have a good joint. Yeah, this project looks like nothing but cutting, grinding and welding. I'm terrible at drawing or I'd bodge one up for you. For something this simple I'd probably just make it up as I went along. YMMV.

Just a rectangular firebox with a way to move the grill surface higher or lower.  I don't have plans, but it will need sufficient airflow for the charcoal, a lid, and a way to clean the accumulated ash, grease, etc.  If I were you I'd go check how Weber does it, or one of the brands available at the big box stores, then copy and improve.

For some ideas look up "flat pack steel hibachi" or "portable steel hibachi"
