Question/Discussion Need tool recommendation for complete face profile
I need to machine the complete rounded face profile shown in the drawing, in one tool.
Smallest diameter: ~Ø5.59 mm
Profile includes multiple radii/rounded sections
Material: SS316
CNC turning, Siemens 828D
Requirement: complete profile should be machined with a single tool, preferably in one continuous operation.
What tool/insert geometry or manufacturer would you recommend for this? HORN, ISCAR, Tungaloy, etc. are all okay.
I’m looking for a tool that can reach the Ø5.59 mm area and generate the complete radius profile accurately.

Using a picco tool from Iscar will be able to do it, just get the rounded face groove tool.

As others have said, if the part is available OTS, just buy it. That said, I don't have the exact model number any more but something like the Iscar PICCO series of face groovers would likely do the trick. Or shit, since you don't have to go deep, even something like a small shank 35 deg insert OD turning tool (maybe with the backside behind the insert ground down) in a face turn mount would probably work.

I‘m intrigued by „very important face - do not scratch“.

VCR fittings are metal-to-metal seals with very little trapped volume. A scratch on the surface of the gland will wreck the ability to get a gas tight seal.

made me giggle tbh
we say "no dings/scratches allowed on this face"
that's typical for sealing surfaces w/o giving away too much information.

Would use a small face groover to finish. Sandvik makes face groover in the cxs style which are solid carbide and go that small. Horn and other tooling companies would also make similar tools

worked for a place that did cryogenic valves and we used Ingersoll T micro tools

I’d just use a 35 degree either boring or regular turning tool whichever one clears that’s not a difficult face feature

I used to do similar geometry for stamping tools, A2 and D2. I do not remember the exact part number but there was a top notch clamping style full node radius tool that got me to 0.4Ra before heat treat. (We had a cbn custom tool made for after hardening.)

Tungaloy’s Y-Pro tooling could be an option to look at. These have a 25 degree insert angle that would allow more clearance for the profile work on the part face.

I don't have an answer to your original question. But is there a reason you're not buying these from Swagelok, who makes a nearly identical part? I have experience with high vacuum components from both a machining and welding perspective.
Also, if for some reason you can't buy off the shelf VCR glands and do have to machine these, one of the things that's critical with VCR glands is that the surface finish of the full round face profile is something like Ra0.4 or better - the Swagelok ones are mirror finish. I don't see a surface finish callout on this drawing. I would want the drawing to control that surface a little more directly... "do not scratch" ≠ fine surface finish.
