What Games Can I Run? i7-2600 , GTX1050ti and 4 Gb ddr3

I have an i7-2600 , GTX1050ti and 4 Gb of ddr3 , my os is linux, and i mainly play single player games, and I'd like to know what are my general limits, your personal suggestions etcetera.

Thanks!

Edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll surely upgrade to 8gb or 16gp of ram if i find a good deal

buy more ram… ddr3 used should be pretty cheap

Plenty cheap for 4gb sticks, moderately expensive for 8gb but hey 8-16 or 32 would still be a huge increase

I'm regularly seeing 8gbs for 4-6 bucks

If you had more ram you could run most if not all PS4 era games

Really? I had no idea my pc was kinda decent

Yes. Both your GPU and CPU are significantly faster than what's inside a PS4. So you should be able to run most games from that period with decent settings

Those parts only really became dated as we transitioned to the current gen of console gaming. So yeah, solid setup through 2020-2022. Just upgrade the RAM and you're good to go.

If you can add another stick of ram you will get a good chunk more headroom

I have 2 sticks of 2gb ram, though i was considering using s sticks of 4gb ram already.. Hypothetically, what could i run then?

2x8GB is the sweet spot and you should just run them. Have fun as you will then only be hampered by the GPU.

Anything up to 2018 should run ok.

With 4gb of ram you are limited, but you should be able to play nier automata, which is pretty nice

More ram for sure. 4gb is going to bottleneck you hard

Ram is the main problem.

for 25 you can find 2x8go if you look carefully on second hand sites.

Your setup should be quite decent. As others have said, upgrade your RAM! If you can do at least 12gb then you're golden

Ddr3 is cheap, and if you can get 3 more sticks of 4gb it'll be good

The 1050ti is a solid budget card. If you do upgrade, an AMD eadeon rx 5600xt 6gb or at most 6600 8gb would serve you well for a Linux machine and are the best Linux gpus that won't have heavy power draw and will do modern games well.

I don't have 1 4gb stick, I havd 2 2gb sticks, which is quite funny now that I read how important ram is.

I'll definitely look for better ram, as many poited out it's relatively inexpensive

First I'd get a RAM kit of 16 or 32 gigs and install bazzite. As long as you run games at medium-low settings,1080p 30-60fps most games up to 2018 should be doable.

1050 ti can still play quite a bit. Get yourself up to 16 gigs of ram and you should be pretty ok playing a lot of modern indie titles and older AAA games. Linux compatibility may vary.

upgrade ram to 16gb that old i7 still has lot of gas left in it

If your planning on sticking with linux (and i respect you for it) i would sell the ram and the gpu and move to a 2x4gb dual channel kit of ddr3 (with the option of buying more in the future) and a RX 580 8gb card (better linux compatibility and drivers then nvidia). With that setup you could play most games up to 2019-2020. The only games you'd have issues with are the ones requiring AVX2 instructions (does won't work), other games that will be an issue are heavily threaded games like UE5 poorly unoptimized slop, there's also games such as the latest pc release of star ocean or monster hunter wilds, dragon's dogma which are also heavy in threaded workloads and stutter badly on older 4 core chips, even hyperthreaded ones, indies though there should be quite a few that work.

CPU- you got one of those legendary CPUs of old. This thing can probably run most games up to 2020 or so, only being held back by the lack of AVX-2 instructions. Barring those instructions, I'd say it could play games up to around 2021-2022. So yeah, very solid CPU for 2011.

GPU- not as legendary, but it's a 2016 GPU with 4 GB ram. It was never crazy, but it's solid. Will also run games up to that 2020-2022 era.

RAM- 4 GB....wtf, this is the biggest problem. 4 GB showed its age back around 2012-2013 in my experience, and by 2014-2015, games started hard requiring 8 GB RAM. Now, RAM is expensive. If you get 8 GB, it'll help, but given the quality of the other components, 16 will help a lot more if you can afford it. 8 GB started showing its age around 2018ish, and 16 started showing its age in 2022, although in many games it's STILL viable today. So yeah, upgrade your RAM and you'll be good up to around 2020-2022 for most games.

EDIT: Looks like DDR3 is still cheap and you can get 16 GB for like $40, so yeah, do that.

Make sure you get an SSD if you don't already have one. It's not quite as important as upgrading the RAM, but it makes a huge difference.

I just looked some games up to see how many you can currently handle with 4GB RAM, and I'm actually surprised by how many don't need much RAM. Apparently the recommended amount for Deus Ex: Human Revolution is 2GB, which seems crazy low to me considering how good that game looks.

Right now, AAA games from ~2012 and back should run great. Look up lists of AAAs from those years and check the recommended specs on Steam.

I recommend getting Ubisoft games on the Ubisoft client. If you check Steam reviews, you'll find plenty of people having issues due to how Ubisoft integrates their client into their games on Steam.

Some suggestions:

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag (original), Batman: Arkham Asylum, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dead Space (original), Dishonored, Hitman: Absolution, Mirror's Edge, Portal 1 & 2

3D indies are typically a little lighter. Even some coming out today run fine on 4GB.

Almost every 2D game will run perfectly.

These are some suggestions from my free Steam game list.

Battle for Wesnoth, BirdGut, Catgirl, Chronigma, Cursed, D1AL-ogue, Entangled, Into the Evernight, No Results Found, ON&OFF, Psycutlery, ROTA: Bend Gravity, Salvo Shuffle, A Tofu Tail, Unless

i have i5-2500, gtx 1060 6gb, 24gb ddr3. i run win11. ssd storage.

i play world of warships on medium graphics, no issues. if i feel adventures, i bump it up to high.

I've got the same setup (except with 12GB RAM) running MX Linux 23.6

It's great for running older games & modern indies & lighter games @ 1080p. I even ran Persona 3 Reload at 4K but it would start getting massive slowdown after roughly half an hour in Tartarus. It was fine after dropping it to 1080p.

Oh, remember to get System Shock 2 from Epic as a freebie before next Thursday, it'll run on your system even with your current RAM.

Hopefully you can get it to 16gb. You'd be able to play the upcoming Castlevania game later this month

Not a bad thing, can run many things, but consider upgrading that 4gb to 16 asap - that should be your number one upgrade rn.

As for some nerdy stuff - your GPU can technically "run" pretty much everything expect for:

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Ray Tracing capable GPU is required)

DOOM: The Dark Ages (Ray Tracing capable GPU is required)

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (GPU with Mesh Shaders support required)

Gears of War: E-Day (Ray Tracing capable GPU is required)

About your CPU - it doesn't support F16C and AVX2 instructions, but there are tons of fixes everywhere for games that require those. The only catch is the games with Denuvo DRM (an anti-piracy system) - if a game with Denuvo requires one of those instructions, there's no way to fix that (unless the devs remove Denuvo from the game completely with a new update).

This is pretty much all you need to know about your system...

Blegh, that 4 GB ram destroy your setup. It's even barely usable for Windows. Need 8-16 gb and you're good to go. 2021 and below game would go around 30-60 fps on low to med setting.

This can run most older and even some newer games relatively well, assuming you fix the ram bottleneck. I'd atleast look for 2x8gb dual channel ddr4 sticks. Check if your mobo can take DDR4 ram first.

Cmon, add more ram please. Make it 12 or 16 gb ddr3
