Hey there, this is Brad! I've been playing D&D since 2020, DMing since 2022, and I've been a nerd since way back. I'm a professional theatre technician, I'm also an improvisor, actor, and writer. Princes of the Apocalypse has everything from your favorite action espionage thriller: important hostages needing saving, huge fortresses ripe with opportunities for stealth infiltration, and maniacal villains bent on world destruction. Join me in leaning into the theme- create your very own action espionage D&D character, specialized with larger than life feats and abilities, infiltrate deceive or fight your way thru highly guarded dungeons, and stop the destruction of the Sword Coast!
This game is for movie and video game nerds as well as fans of the action espionage genre- think secret agent man, femme fatale, or specialized operative; use story and genre tropes from Mission: Impossible, Alias, Hitman, James Bond, Metal Gear Solid, The Bourne Identity, Splinter Cell, etc.
Style: dungeon crawl, VTT, rules lite, combat heavy, role play heavy, hexcrawl, sandbox Themes: espionage, infiltration, stealth, fantasy, secret agent, femme fatale, anti-ai, anti-war, anti-wmd
Content Warnings: blood, character death, cults, death, drowning, fire, mass death, suffocation, terrorism, torture, violence, freezing, uncanny valley, snakes, manipulation
Safety:
This is an LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent friendly table
No sexual aggression or violence
No racial aggression or violence
No gender aggression or violence
No generative AI use allowed Do you believe love can bloom on the battlefield? PG-13 gameplay romance is allowed between PCs and NPCs. PG-13 gameplay romance between PCs is allowed, but only after full consent and boundaries are established between included players.
No means no.
Character Creation:
- Create a level 3 D&D character using 2024 rules, who is larger than life and would fit-in to an action espionage setting
- Point Buy and Standard Array
- All character options are available, I would recommend a well rounded build. There is an emphasis on magic in combat, emphasis on infiltration in exploration. That said, feel free to specialize your character however you wish!
Once you are on the Discord, I'll go thru more in depth character creation and backstory work thru messages and group chat. Before your first session I'll get you set up with your character sheet in Foundry, I don't use D&D Beyond. In your first session you'll go thru a condensed version of the session 0 that everyone went thru before introducing your character and getting into the game.
This game is played in Discord and Foundry simultaneously, no theatre of the mind. I suggest a 2 screen setup at a desktop with a headset microphone and webcam, but at the very least you will need to be in one place on a computer and able to hear and be heard, and see and be seen during gameplay. Foundry does not work on mobile, Discord does.
We have already completed the prologue mission, now known as the Oakhurst Incident, which featured searching for the legendary leader of HELL-HOUND, Vizeran DeVir, after being MIA for 6 years. DeVir was defeated after trying to destroy and remake the world, and HELL-HOUND disbanded. Now 3 years later you and your companions are called back to duty as followers of Vizeran DeVir have struck again.
But it all starts with a simple message, with direct instructions:
---
This is Commander Hauberk Miller, it's been a long time! I regret to force you out of retirement, but you're going to want to hear this.
A delegation of high profile nobles on a top secret political assignment from Mirabar to Waterdeep were attacked and captured in the Sumber Hills of Faerûn's Dessarin Valley. The delegates are being held deep underground in the abandonded dwarven kingdom of Besilmer. The terrorists are next-generation mercenaries and cutthroats, being led by members of HELL-HOUND, your former unit and one I was Commander of. They're demanding that ALLIANCE hand over the remains of the legendary mage Vizeran DeVir, founder of HELL-HOUND. They say if their demands are not met soon, they will detonate a Devastation Orb in the Valley.
You and your companions have been hand selected to take on this task. You will be working with the best of the best from the HRPR, ALLIANCE, ENCLAVE, ORDER, even the Z.N.T.R.M. The factions of the Sword Coast have set aside their differences to put an end to HELL-HOUND for good.
You will have 2 mission objectives: Firstly, you are to rescue the 4 members of the Mirabar Delegation and safely escort them all to Waterdeep together. Secondly, you are to investigate whether or not the terrorists have the ability to detonate a Devastation Orb, and stop them if they do.
There are 4 members of HELL-HOUND involved in this operation:
Aerisi Kalinoth, codename HOWLING HATRED - a wingèd elf mage with a violent temper,
Marlos Urnrayle, codename BLACK EARTH - weapons master and medusa,
Gar Shatterkeel, codename CRUSHING WAVE - a spiteful druid with a crab claw arm,
And Vanifer, codename ETERNAL FLAME - the mysterious and manipulative sorcereress.
Each of them leads legions of fanatics dedicated to their purpose. It's you and your companions against armies out there. Stay alert!
This is an infiltration mission: you will want to get in and out without raising too many alarms, but you and your companions are free to choose the best course of action. Your faction contacts and I will be stationed in the nearby town of Red Larch to provide information and support during your mission. If you need anything you can contact us by STONE. I'll meet you and the rest of your team in Red Larch for mission briefing. Until then, stay alive out there!
- CMDR Hauberk Miller
