Yeah i wouldn’t let a report card tell me something different than what i watched. For example, this gave him an F for perimeter defense. He’s not that bad. He is at least average perimeter defender.
In a league with 450 roster spots available he recorded the 475th best BPM last season meaning he got outplayed by dozens of Gleaguers and guys under 2way contracts.
Stats like this don't matter when you're trying to compare very low minute guys. Like, unless you think Ty Jerome was statistically the 8th best player when he plays
Does any statistical number mean anything when the player doesn't get meaningful minutes? If the Lakers have seen him improve over this offseason and he gets actual minutes this upcoming season and he sucks, then that's a different story.
Yeah but at the same time he was also playing against people not of NBA talent too, that was my point. If he were given meaningful minutes against NBA level talent he'd look even worse. I got nothing against him personally even if I think his fans are delusional and a bit weird and think he's a good dude but he's just not very good.
I don't think it's very valuable either when he gets two minute stretches a time. If they could narrow down the sample to games where he played 10 or more minutes I think it would have enough metrics to actually say something
It's sad. I was always hoping that with his athleticism Bronny would evolve into a bulldog, tenacious POA defender who'd pick up the opposing PG full court and harass him over the course of his 10 mins or so on the court. Someone like a Davion Mitchell, Kris Dunn, or prime Avery Bradley. He'd be a useful 15th man if he can hound on defense and hit some threes on the other end. Sadly, Bronny doesn't have the dog in him, nor is he a good offensive engine. Really nice kid though.
It often does come down to that. He has the physical tools to be that type of player. He clearly works hard. But to be that type of player, you have to have that mentality. I haven’t seen that fight from him.
Ehhh…Hate to be that guy to ruin a fun little joke. One guy was 7 feet and the other is closer to average human height. I would say Bronny way better even just off stats alone. But if Mbenga could go 7 seasons bronny could double that.
Because it’s so fucking obviously racist. And the fact that people can’t see that the joke is rooted in racism (not even saying this particular dude is outwardly racist, though his follow up comments of feigning ignorance don’t inspire much hope), is part of the problem.
Magic. Kobe. Pau. Van Exel. Horry. Caruso. Reaves. Luka.
And no, this has nothing to do with LeBron even if that's what you're trying hard to imply. It could have been Kobe's son who was trash and we'd still be having the same discussion
How is that at all relevant to how good he is in the NBA? Go take a look at who has made those teams all throughout history. You'll find a bunch of nobodies. Was Bronny deserving of being the 55th pick? Sure. Worse people have been picked that late before. However, he is not a good NBA player. Continuing to ignore that fact is just ridiculous at this point. Can he continue developing? Sure, but at this point he is nothing but the last man on an NBA roster.
It’s relevant when he said “no one would bat an eye” it’s just gross hyperbole. Bronny has a long way and has a bunch of holes in his game but he’s shown flashes. I think your assessment is accurate.
It isn't a gross hyperbole. This is the NBA. This isn't recruiting the freshman class for the NCAA. Where you were ranked coming out of high school or whether you were a McDonald's All American is flat out irrelevant. Bronny is an undersized guard who has not shown much guard skills. He doesn't have a handle. He doesn't have playmaking abilities. His strengths are essentially "he tries hard". That isn't going to cut it in the NBA. He still has major steps in his development if he wants to even be a bench player in the NBA. I'm sorry but OP is 100% right. If he wasn't Lebron's son, no one would be talking about him and he'd essentially be at best another random 2-way or G-League player.
Sanders played in the pro bowl after about five quarterbacks dropped out and being a starter in the all-star game virtually doesn’t matter, especially since they were fan-voted at the time. Bronny was a legitimate nba prospect whether you like it or not
being a starter in the all-star game virtually doesn’t matter, especially since they were fan-voted at the time
TIL Pro Bowl voting isn't fan-voted
Bronny was a legitimate nba prospect whether you like it or not
Bronny wasn't the best player in his HS team and had pedestrian averages. Had a heart issue and averaged 5/3/2 on 37/27/68 splits.
Again no problem with drafting him 55, the issue was giving him a guaranteed contract AND an untouchable roster spot. He keeps routinely being outplayed by GLeaguers and Two-way players and he's still on the team.
And I noticed you shifted away from the "he's a McDonalds All American" argument lmao
The Pro Bowl isn’t purely fan-voted like being all-star starter was. Shedeur was also like the 6th reserve 😂 Also, there’s more that goes into being an nba prospect than scoring, especially when you’re sharing the ball with several other d-1 players. I’ve been pretty consistent in my position. Agree to disagree.
Facts. He's really likeable on a personal level, but his game isn't it. The best way to describe it would be that he plays like an athletic Gabe Vincent with less confidence lol.
Yep using whatever numbers to try to gauge how good an end of bench player is just doesn’t work. A lot of advanced data show bronny was worse last year than his rookie year which obviously isn’t true from the eye test. Also a guy like manon has some great defensive advanced stats, but he’s also clearly over reliant on being handsy and physical which rotation players would easily take advantage of
You got 22 lines and he scored an F in 15 of them and a D on 3 other lines.
Do you think we really need to talk about him as a basketball prospect? Talk about the money he makes for the owners and the attention he brings to the franchise.
He is likely a bust, but he has the ability to develop into something, it's just really unlikely. I am still kinda interested to see if he does without his dad. China would love him.
That is the reason most of them don't earn a real contract, because they are too bad to be even called a bust. A bust is Cam Reddish, Bronny shouldn't even be in the league if his name was LeBron Smith and you know it is true.
This is his contract. He isn't a bust based on his pick, it's based on his salary.
• Year 1 (2024–25): $1,157,153 (Fully guaranteed at signing).
• Year 2 (2025–26): $1,954,350 (Fully guaranteed at signing).
• Year 3 (2026–27): $2,296,271 (Partially guaranteed at $1,258,873 at signing; became fully guaranteed on June 29, 2026).
• Year 4 (2027–28): $2,486,995 (Completely un-guaranteed Team Option).
Yeah, it can when you pay them like the Lakers did. The typical 55th pick would get less than 1mil and likely for only a season or 2. Bronny got a fat 4.3mil guaranteed, then they picked up his option. Bronny could* cost the Lakers over 7mil.
Some people really should know what a bust means lol. There is no expectations from late second rounders. Most of them dont even make it in the league lol
Honestly he’s super young, cheap, and knows his role. He’s very athletic and if he keeps improving his defense and 3 id love to get him on a cheap multi year contract and just have him be our 3rd string Pg. also feel like he’s still a positive asset and would get us a SRP or two if we ever wanted to move him
I guess grimes, when I look at the roster and I’m looking at the third stringers/young guys I see hardy as the third string sexton, Carr as the third string thybulle and bronny as the third string grimes
He’s already had enough playing time that is above his ceiling all due to who his father is. Swell kid and much more successful in life than I would ever be.. granted I don’t have a dad that is the GOAT and one of the most famous people in the world.
Stat "report cards" like those don't matter for low minute guys, there's too much variance to make any conclusion. If you want to paint yourself as an objective stat guy, that should be apparent
SInce he lacks the height and length to make mistakes, he has to be as polished as possible and maximize his skill set. Gonna be a long road but it is possible, kinda wish he went thru the Euro academy system instead of the AAU route when he was growing up.
Just as an example since Kessler had a small sample size last season, he was only 74th percentile in rim protection, 48th in rim disruption, and 62nd in deterrence which is much different than previous years. Small sample sizes for advanced data doesn’t mean shit
At best, Bronny might become a 10th or 11th man. Now that we no longer have to cater to Bron, it's time to give the playing time to guys with actual upside.
We lost out on Scotty Pippen Jr. and derailed Knecht by catering to Bronny, it's time to focus on the future.
Scotty pippen jr was in Memphis for the 23-24 season and like the other guy said wasn’t good here. Bronny had no bearing on SPJ being here. Knecht has been given more opportunity than bronny both years
I mean, he seems like he could be a consistent 8th guy maybe? He’s got his weaknesses, but if he can just be a consistent shooter and defensive pest then that’s a guy you can keep around. If no other reason I want that for him because of the absurd way he’s treated for being no different than any other late second round pick.
I get the report card is brutal but I think his eye test is more interesting than that. I think this year will answer that question one way or another.

Second best LeBron James in NBA history.
