I’m not able to get the films to play in atmos through my Sonos system even though the films say there in atmos
Could anyone help me set it up?
Thanks

What TV are you using? Because you are using a Sonos your TVs pass through capability comes into play after you set the options others have mentioned.

If LG is set to bitstream and pass through the problem is either the Kodi settings or the Android box is not capable of passing through lossless formats.

What Android box are you using?

Your Kodi settings should look similar to this:

The LG does not support passing through DTS audio so if that is not there it's not an issue, Sonos bars also only support lossy DTS they don't support DTS-HD MA.

I’ll look what the box is when I get home but on the Kodi settings I only have 3 options

I had this issue with my AVR, don’t know why the defaults are set like this.

Check here, the System > Audio settings. Make sure channels is set to 7.1 or 5.1.2 or whatever it needs.

Also turn passthrough on

Select the number of channels supported by the audio connection, or the number of speakers if connected by analogue connections. This setting does not apply to passthrough audio. Note: S/PDIF supports 2.0 channels only but can still output multichannel audio using a format supported by passthrough. According to this you don't need to select the number of channels if you allow pass through.

I have the Sonos arc soundbar with 2 ones at the back with the sub
Would 7.1 be ok to set it too?

Works fine with the Beam. The Arc has more drivers but I doubt it makes a difference channel wise. Either way there is no higher setting.

There are separate settings for Dolby if you turn the settings to expert level. You have to select each codec one by one based on your speaker and TV. In my case the TV cannot do DTS passthrough so that is left disabled. Kodi can convert it to normal Atmos anyway. My Sonos setup plays Atmos, I verified it in the Sonos app.

When I switch to expert it only gives me 3 settings on the pass through

How can I add a picture to show?

I think you have to upload it somewhere

Part of it also depends on how you made the connection.

If you went Android Box to TV then to Sonos it could be that your TV limits the output to 2 channels.

You need to go, Android Box to Sonos, to TV

Both r straight into the tv
I’m not sure how I would do it the other way as the Sonos has 1 hdmi port

Then more than likely your TV HDMI out only outputs 2.0 audio to the Sonos.

I have a Harmon Kardon sound bar with a couple of HDMI inputs and an EArc HDMI output to the TV. So android box gets connected to the soundbar first, then HDMI out to the TV and I have a 7.1.4 system.

The Sonos is connected to the eARC
When I play a film from Netflix on the built in app I get Dolby atmos

Maybe you should ask in r/Sonos

But by built in App do you mean built into the TV or the one on your Android Box.

Because I would think the one running on your Android box should have the same issue as Kodi

No sorry built into the tv
I only use the android box for Kodi
How can I upload pics on here to show u?

Doesn't matter I can't help.

I would bet that your TV is not passing thru 5.1 audio for anything coming from you Android box. It's probably a TV limitation.

So you can look for the subreddit of your TV manufacturer and confirm with people in that subreddit.

I have a Samsung TV and it's the same issue, it only passes thru 2.0 audio coming from HDMI inputs. So I needed to use either a soundbar or AV receiver that supports multiple inputs. The TV has to be the last stop in the chain.

It’s a new tv lg g5 and it plays the ps5 in Dolby atmos so has to be something to do with the android box

So the PS5 is connected the same way? HDMI from PS5 to TV then audio from TV to Sonos?

1

Yep so Sonos is in the eARC
Ps5 in an hdmi port and the android box in a hdmi port

It's weird, but for passtrough to work on Kodi, you have to set 2.0 channels.
