Anthony Black and Cason Wallace are the fan favorite offer sheet options for next year.

Yuck

u/ShotgunStyles 3d ago

There are worse options too. We could use our cap space to absorb Brokeback Poeltl and get ourselves some firsts back from the Raptors.

1

u/CoercedCoexistence22 Domantas Sabonis 1d ago

That wouldn't be a bad idea you know

Perry with real cap space will be a menace

1

u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago

He will? Well, there's a first time for everything, I suppose.

Did you forget were the kings and no one wants to play here?

Thanx, just spent the last 20 minutes researching Anthony Black. Getting my hopes up for next year. Orlando is kinda fucked though but we might have to throw a bag to get him to choose us over other teams.

u/ShotgunStyles 2d ago

The thing with both those guys is that Orlando and OKC are both cash strapped teams. They paid everyone off and are sniffing the 2nd apron. So it wouldn't have to be that big of a bag to make it unfeasible for them to match the offer.

u/IDFKtv Light the Beam 2d ago

Yea Denver too. One of these teams has to bite on a Zach Lavine or DeAndre Hunter. These expiring contracts should be gold. Maybe i'm too optimistic. A lot of teams are gonna be in some shit next year.

Willing to pay for Wallace or Bilal next offseason. We have the money to overpay them off their team. Don’t want to give too much tho ofc. Both are young + good defenders and they can play the 2 guard next to Acuff

u/MostlyMellow123 Darius Acuff Jr 3d ago

Wallace gives me those getting overhyped because hes on a good team vibes. I dont like guards that cant even get 10 ppg. Hes 6 ft 3 so its not like he can guard forwards.

-3

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

Sure but you can't fake the numbers. In the last 3 years, Cason Wallace is +3.5 on offense with a -6.8 on defense, which is real impact with a +10.3 net rating.

This past season, he was a +2.8 on offense with a -10.3 on defense, with a +13.2 net rating.

Sure, you can say numbers can be inflated by a good team.

But he is without a doubt a very good defender with an unproven offensive game, which we will probably see more of this season if they give him the ball.

Yeah and thats playing next to sga at pg who is 6 ft 6. I dont trust it and even if its real those types of players are almost always more valuable to good teams than bad teams because they get these small defined roles and arent asked to do much.

When you go to a building team you are asked to do a lot more especially with acuff as his running mate. Hes going to have the harder matchup everytime and hes going to be asked to shoot more here. I dont like it at all for some bloated contract .

If wallace was 6 ft 5 yeah im all about it because now you have that switching value like keegan does. You can guard 4 positions. But 6 ft 3 no thanks.

Hes also had chet, hartenstein,j dub, caruso, jaylin williams, sga, dort helping on defense. We dont have any of that stuff

Wallace has a 6'8.5 wingspan and an 8'5 standing reach. That's practically a forward length on a guard, and it's why he can contest bigger guys. Jrue Holiday is 6'4 and has guarded 1 through 3 his whole career, while being measured 6'3 without shoes, and Cason Wallace is 6'2.5 without shoes. Not even that drastic a difference.

And the role thing goes the other way imo. He's not really in a small role at OKC, he was guarding the other team's best perimeter guy every night next to Dort. That's the opposite of a small defined role (if you meant defensively as well). The scoring is mostly a usage thing, not ability. He's the 4th or 5th option on a team with SGA + JDub + Chet + Ajay, so it makes sense that he's not getting more than 10 a game.

But were not really asking him to come here and be a scorer. He'd be the 2 next to Acuff, with Sabonis as the hub (if he's still here) and Keegan next to them. Which is still the 4th option at best or even 5th if we add someone else as well. But his job is to take the harder matchup every night, so Acuff doesn't have to, and to knock down open looks. That's a role he's already good at he does for OKC.

But I'm with you on not paying stupid money, which is why I mentioned Wallace or Bilal. Bilal is 6'7 with a 7'2 wingspan, so he clears that 6'5 part you talked about. If Wallace's price gets dumb, you just go after bilal instead.

u/MostlyMellow123 Darius Acuff Jr 3d ago

Not just about wingspan. Wallace is sub 200 lbs. Jrue is 220. Wallace cannot guard 3s in the nba.

The good teams have size everywhere. 6 2 acuff and 6 3 Wallace is just the same problem weve had for years. Guards that get overpowered against the giants in the league like sga/luka,reaves/cade/lamelo/Murray/booker/harper/castle/thompson bros/ haliburton/nemhardt/jaylen brown . List just never ends.

Youd have major size problems against 80% of the nba guard starters.its just asking for problems. The only smaller starters would be the heat and the trailblazers

1

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

Jrue was 199 lbs at the 2009 combine lol. He's 220 now cause he spent 15 years in an NBA weight room. Wallace is 22. You're comparing a 22 year old's frame to a 36 year old's finished body and calling it a flaw.

And Wallace is longer than Jrue anyway. Jrue measured a 6'7 wingspan with an 8'4.5 standing reach. Wallace is 6'8.5 with an 8'5 reach. So the guy you're using as the standard for guarding 1 through 3 is actually shorter in length than the guy you're saying can't do it.

But you know if we forget measurements, it already happened. Wallace made All-Defensive Second Team this past season at 195 lbs, and he led the whole NBA in total steals with 150. On a 64-18 team that gave up the fewest points in the West. That's not a theory about whether a 6'3 guard holds up, that's just what happened, and that's why he made all-defensive

And before you say the roster carried him, that's my point. With Caruso, Chet, JDub and Ajay out there they had every option to hide him. They did the opposite and gave him the hardest matchup, and with Dort gone, he's the one taking them now.

On the backcourt size thing, half that list is PGs. SGA, Luka, Cade, LaMelo, Haliburton, Harper. That's the exact matchup you want Wallace taking so Acuff doesn't have to. The size comes from everywhere else, Keegan at 6'8, Nique at 6'6, Precious and Mogbo who can switch, Cardwell behind them as a real shot blocker. The old Kings teams were bad because Keegan was doing it alone with nobody next to him who could guard. That's not this.

We get Sharp. Why need to add Wallace ?

Wallace looks tiny over there, Sharp is bigger.

3

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

Are you trolling?

Wallace has already played 3 seasons in the NBA and has already made an All-Defensive Team at 22 years old? + he played a big role on the Thunder, which contributed to them winning the chip lmao!?!?!

We literally just drafted a 22 year old sharp who hasn't even played a single NBA + we don't even know if he will even last compared to guy who has already proven himself???

1

u/Belmore_Rd Keon Ellis 2d ago

She’s always trolling or genuinely thinks our 12th and 13th man can’t possibly have their spots taken by free agents or trades.

We just have so much talent! Plowden!!

-2

u/ShotgunStyles 3d ago

So pay Cason Wallace $40 million next year? Got it.

1

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

Nobody said $40M lol. An offer sheet's first year is capped by our cap space, and Keith Smith projects us at about $31.5M. So we're talking mid 20s, not 40.

And look at OKC's 27-28 books. They're at $237.7M in active salary before Wallace, and the second apron is $236M. They're already over it without paying him a cent, and his $22.3M is still just a cap hold.

So matching means dumping Caruso or Hartenstein for pennies just to keep him. That's why there might be a real chance they let him go, and why I'd put the offer sheet up. Worst case, they match, and it costs them a rotation piece plus picks to move that salary.

1

u/IDFKtv Light the Beam 2d ago

All these teams with cap issues makes me think Zach might actually be movable.

-1

u/ShotgunStyles 3d ago

Nah we can get over $40 million, it's why we were even a threat to sign Duren next year. Keith Smith's projection is probably assuming we accept all team options and get a high draft pick (which would incur a higher salary and thus, reduce our cap space).

1

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

That's the thing though, those assumptions are the realistic route. We're picking up Nique and Raynaud for sure, Monk's taking his PO, and we're keeping our pick, so it's hitting the sheet before free agency opens. $40M+ only exists if all of that goes the complete opposite way.

Either way, it doesn't change OKC's side. They're over the second apron before paying him a cent.

1

u/ShotgunStyles 3d ago

You're forgetting Plowden's option and Cardwell's "option" as his contract's non-guaranteed for next year. But the main thing is you're not seeing how big of a hit our unsigned draft pick next year will be.

You can do the math yourself. Everyone stays on our team except Plowden and we'll have $127 million in obligations (including Demar's stretched salary). Current projection for the cap next year is $176 million. So that's $49 million in cap space without including the salary for our next draft pick. Our draft pick will have to be top 5 or so to shave us down below $40 million.

Oh and, I believe you're referencing Keith Smith's projections from a few months ago. The NBA updated its cap projection last month and it helps us there by about $2 million.

1

u/OmegaLxgend Malik Monk 3d ago

Fair, the math checks out. But when looking at it, the pick hold is about 120% of a rookie scale, so it's like 15M at the top and still 8m around the 9th pick. And with the new 3-2-1 lottery, being bad doesn't really get you a top pick anymore. The three worst records are 3% each now. So we're probably picking somewhere in the middle of the lottery with a smaller hold, which means more room, not less. My point was never saying that $40M is impossible, it's that we'd never actually use that much. The point is to overpay him enough that matching it forces OKC to clear space or let him walk.

Also the 176m update is already in those numbers, that happened on September 13th. Same reason OKC's apron shows 236m instead of 234m.

But you've spent three comments arguing that we have more money than I thought lol. That works for me either way. More room just means a bigger offer sheet, and OKC has to eat more to match. They're at $237.7M before Wallace against a $236M apron.

Stop trolling.

1

u/KrakenKings 3d ago

How the heck does that make sense? Sharp just got drafted and is still unproven nd we don't even know if he will be half the player that Cason Wallace is. Atleast with cason we know that hes proven and has already made a All-Defensive team with multiple seasons under his belt and his fit next to Acuff is seamless.

u/chaoticinfluencer Maxime Raynaud 3d ago

Ourselves lmfao

13

u/Little_little_e 3d ago

You mean, who is the next player that will use the Kings as leverage, or who is the next victim team by the 4D chess ♟️ played by Perry ? 😌

18

u/PIeuto 3d ago

The Pistons are the ones who paid 200 million

13

u/IDFKtv Light the Beam 3d ago

thats what im saying. didnt cost Kings a damn thing. Good for Perry to get that man paid and do due diligence.

0

u/FarCavalry Royals 2d ago

Didn't GAIN the Kings anything either. How tf do you celebrate a bunch of wasted activity that netted us nothing.

8

u/Imperium42069 Russell Westbrook 2d ago

wasted activity? as opposed to what? youre looking to get mad over NOTHING

3

u/IDFKtv Light the Beam 2d ago

kinda strange to get mad over a transaction we knew wasn't going to happen. Perry met with him back in like June and that was it. They said no to the sign and trade and Perry kept it moving. Duren got paid and Kings didn't lose a dime. if I'm celebrating anything, "I love to see a young black man get paid" - J. Cole

1

u/FarCavalry Royals 2d ago

We have a horrendous roster with no future that becomes even bleaker with new lotto rules. We did nothing this summer other than make our draft pick and sign Ben Simmons (lol). Personally, I think we should measure our GM by the trajectory he puts the franchise in, not by how a player played us for a bigger payday elsewhere. By any measure his tenure is an utter failure so far. But by all means keep popping champagne over transactions happening hundreds of miles away

1

u/IDFKtv Light the Beam 1d ago

wait ..where are the champagne bottles? I must have missed the invite.

bruh I'm not saying you're wrong but in no way am I using the Jalen Duren situation as something to judge Perry's abilities to improve the Sacramento Kings. as far as the kings, I don't feel any type of way. as far as the Detroit pistons, I'm happy Duren got paid and in a couple years they have to figure out what to do with their salary cap. it's really not that deep.

1

u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago

What wasted activity? The media writing stories for three months? That's on them, and isn't the Kings' problem.

1

u/ghostjournals 3d ago

Just curious, what’s the upside for us even being involved here?

6

u/PIeuto 3d ago

Besides the typical agency and player connections, if another team in the league has to overpay for anyone is good news (especially in the new apron system).

1

u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago

Getting to complain about the "terrible contract" two years later.

3

u/BeTheBall- 2d ago

I can see the Kings trying to trade for the shitty Magic guard from Gonzaga.
