Self-Promotion My comic got fully funded on day 3, and this is how!

Post image
37 Upvotes

People have asked me how I got my Kickstarter fully funded in just 3 days, and I wanted to share what I did—but also something I learned along the way.

I literally called everyone in my phone and told them about my comic. 😂 Depending on the person and our relationship, I would even ask them for a specific amount. For example, there was someone I’m close with who I knew had a good-paying job, so I asked if they could pledge $100. They ended up choosing my most expensive reward tier and adding a little extra to bring their pledge up to $100.

I posted EVERYWHERE.

Facebook groups. Reddit. Instagram. TikTok. Threads. Facebook. I messaged people who followed my comic page. I reached out to people I knew personally. I talked about this comic every chance I got.

And trust me, not every response was positive.

My comic is about a superhero who fights ICE, so a lot of indie comic Facebook groups deleted my posts for being “political.” I got hate comments. There were moments when those comments genuinely hurt and moments when I wondered if I should just take the Kickstarter down.

But I kept going.

I also ran an Early Bird Special during the first 24 hours of the campaign. That created a sense of urgency—if people wanted the discounted reward tier, they had to grab it while the deal was available.

Then I got incredibly lucky: someone randomly discovered Libertad on Kickstarter and interviewed me about it.

By the end of Day 1, we were 60% funded.

By Day 2, we were 95% funded.

And on Day 3, Libertad Issue #1 was FULLY FUNDED. 🧡

Now, with 7 days left, we’re at 139% funded.

But here’s the part I really want people to take away from this:

I made Libertad for myself.

Yes, some people are going to look at my comic and immediately call it political because it’s about a superhero fighting ICE. And yeah, sometimes the hate comments hurt.

But for every person who doesn’t understand why I made this story, there has been someone else messaging me saying they finally feel seen because of it.

At one point, when I was seriously thinking about taking my Kickstarter down, someone all the way in Germany became a backer.

I just sat there thinking, “Someone in Germany wants to read my comic?”

Now Libertad is international. This little indie comic I wrote is going to be shipped to readers in three different countries, New Zealand, Germany, and Mexico!

So I guess what I’m trying to say is: please don’t give up on your dreams just because you’re afraid other people won’t understand them.

Make the comic you want to read.

Write the book you wish existed.

Create the thing that feels like you, even when you’re scared nobody will care.

Then put it out into the world and fight like hell for it.

Not everybody is going to understand what you’re creating and they don’t have to.

The right people will find it.

And sometimes, they might find it from the other side of the world.

Libertad Issue #1 is 139% funded with 7 days left. Thank you to every single person who helped prove to me that this story deserves to exist.

Don’t give up on your dreams.

Self-Promotion My first Kickstarter Campaign got approved

I created ODLights out of desperation.I had camera-capture tv lights but some of our foster cats thought about the camera as a toy. To save the TV, I designed these lights..it has no camera/bulky attachment. I was not planning to sell it, but few of my friends and Internet strangers convinced me to try selling it. I don't have a lot of experience with this - my girlfriend has a small Etsy shop for her crochet so she gave me some initial suggestions which I worked on.

Thanks for reading

Self-Promotion Launched yesterday, fully funded and excited to see what’s next

I’m a small independent creator and have been working on a side project for almost a year. I launched yesterday and to my surprise, got fully funded in 8 minutes.

I would love to share the campaign with y’all and I’m open to suggestions to keep the backers rolling in.

Self-Promotion We reached $140k on Kickstarter in two months without starting from a big community. Here are the marketing lessons.

Post image
35 Upvotes

About two months ago, we started working seriously on the launch of our Kickstarter campaign.

We did not begin with a large existing community, a huge mailing list, or a famous creator attached to the project.

We had a very clear problem to solve:

How do you make the right people notice a project before launch?

The campaign has now endede yesterday with $140,000 on Kickstarter, and I wanted to share some practical marketing lessons that may be useful for other creators here.

The first and most important point is simple:

You need to know your audience.

Not in a generic way. Not “people who like games” or “people who like horror.” You need to understand who is most likely to care about your specific project, what language they respond to, what visuals stop them, what promises feel exciting to them, and what information they need before they trust you.

For us, that meant being very clear about what Heart of Cthulhu 1912 was: a Lovecraftian horror RPG for Daggerheart, with a darker tone, investigation, cosmic horror, and a stop class visual identity.

The second lesson is that the pre-launch phase matters enormously.

I would strongly recommend planning at least 4 to 6 weeks of proper pre-launch activity before going live.

That time is not just for collecting followers. It is for testing messaging and audiences.

The audiences that work during pre-launch are often the ones you will rely on when the campaign goes live. If you wait until launch day to discover who responds to your project, you are probably already late.

The third lesson: your advertising strategy needs to be intense, focused, and built around your actual audience.

Ads are not magic. They do not save a weak page or a confusing offer.

But if the project is strong, the page is clear, and the audience is right, ads can help you reach the people who would genuinely care but would never have found you organically.

For us, advertising t was a dedicated strategy with different phases: pre-launch validation, launch push, mid-campaign management, retargeting, and final 48/72-hour urgency.

The fourth lesson is that influencer outreach should be planned properly.

Do not treat influencers as an emergency button two days before launch.

Prepare your materials early.

Give people time to read, play, preview, or understand the project.
Make it easy for them to talk about it.
Choose people whose audience actually overlaps with your project.

A smaller creator with the right audience can be more useful than a larger one with a generic following.

The fifth lesson is production quality.

A Kickstarter page is not just a page. It is your pitch, your store, your proof of seriousness, and your first impression.

Good graphic design matters.
Strong layout matters.
Clear reward presentation matters.
Professional visuals matter.
And guess what... Effective ads matter.

This does not mean every project needs to look corporate or expensive. But it does need to look intentional, clear, and trustworthy.

Backers are being asked to support something that does not fully exist yet. The way you present the project is part of how they judge whether you can actually deliver it.

One more thing I would add: communication during the campaign is part of the marketing.

Updates, comments, stretch goals, clarifications, community tone, creator presence, all of it matters.

People are not only buying a product. They are joining a process. If they feel ignored, confused, or taken for granted, momentum drops. If they feel involved, informed, and respected, the campaign feels alive.

So, if I had to summarize the main lesson:

A successful Kickstarter is not only built during the campaign.

It is built before launch, through positioning, audience research, pre-launch testing, creative development, influencer planning, page design, and a real advertising strategy.

The campaign itself is the visible part.

Most of the work happens before people see it.

I work on this professionally through Senshi Consulting, so if anyone wants to discuss Kickstarter marketing, transmedia strategy, or campaign positioning, I am happy to connect:

www.senshiconsulting.com

Hope this is useful to other creators preparing their launch.

Self-Promotion Feedback please! Audience and preview page troubleshooting for kid's book on cat communication.

Post image
43 Upvotes

Kickstarter felt like a no-brainer as an option to fund a print run of my book, but I am really hitting a wall. The book is a 12-spread board book intended for children 0-5 years. The story follows a cat and their kid, walking through feline communication from subtle to not-so-subtle before demonstrating relationship-building activities.

This next part is going to sound obnoxious, my apologies in advance.

I feel really confident in what I have produced, I love the book dearly and have gotten a mountain of positive feedback from friends and colleagues (as one does). It has been hugely successful in my home and I know so many people who want it now, not only for themselves but to sell at vet clinics and shelters. The battle has been conversion to Kickstarter. People want to buy it. They glaze over the moment I start explaining how to support through crowd-funding. I promoted the preview page at a conference earlier this year and had so many people ready to purchase, immediate disinterest when I mention how they can do so. 'Tell me when I can just buy it.'

I have read again and again that without an audience 100% ready to roll, kickstarter campaigns are doomed to fail. It is starting to feel like there is not enough overlap between my community/audience and people who are comfortable with the platform to even bother trying.

Farming interest from Kickstarter itself does not feel realistic, given the loud and clear warnings from every article ever. Has anyone run into similar challenges? Should I give up entirely? At least tell me that Steve is cute, it's not his fault after all.

As far as the preview page goes, I am trying to strike that awkward balance of enough information without being a wall of boring. Any feedback is very much appreciated! Due to the doubts above, I have not yet sat down to formulate my campaign video. I am hoping to tip my follower count into three digits before investing that much of my time to what may never come to fruition.

This isn't necessarily intended to be promotional, clearly a wail for help, but using the flair felt safer in case the post is borderline in that regard.

Self-Promotion We failed out of pure inexperience

We honestly thought having a polished concept and a decent presentation on a shoestring budget would be enough. A rookie mistake.

Doing our homework after launching taught us the hard way: without an existing community already in place, relying strictly on platform discovery pretty much guarantees failure. On top of that, a lot of backers have been burned by sketchy campaigns that never delivered, which makes it nearly impossible for first-timers with zero track record to build trust.

A few months ago, building a no-subscription fitness app felt like a solid idea. But the space is so ridiculously oversaturated now that getting organic traction just isn't realistic.

Right now, literally every single backer we have is a friend or family member. We're lucky to have their support, but you can't run a real project on favors from relatives.

I'm sharing the project anyway since today is the designated Self-Promo day, fully aware that this campaign flopped before it even started because of our own lack of prep and research.

Regardless, we’re still going to finish building it. Even with a $0 distribution budget and the reality that it won't take off like we dreamed, our inner circle is genuinely excited to use it, and we still believe it's worth putting out into the world.

Thanks.

Self-Promotion My first Kickstarter was funded in 3 minutes and is over 200% now

I launched my first Kickstarter for FARK, a hidden-role card game inspired by old monster folklore.

It's been a lot of work getting this thing together, especially doing it as a solo project, so it's pretty cool finally seeing people actually backing it.

We already knocked out the first two Pillory (Stretch) Goals, and I'm hoping we can keep it moving. I have a Tabletopia play link on the page, and Tantrum House will be doing a live play next week.

Also, I am making handcrafted Extirpator's Kits for the campaign for a higher tier, because apparently making the card game wasn't enough work, haha.

Here's the campaign if you want to take a look:

Self-Promotion Most Kickstarter projects don’t fail because of marketing. They fail long before launch.

This is uncomfortable to say, especially in a space built on optimism, but most crowdfunding projects are never truly fundable to begin with.

They look exciting, they demo well, and they make perfect sense to the creator, yet they struggle to convert strangers into backers.

Not because people are cruel or algorithms are unfair, but because the project doesn’t solve a problem that feels urgent enough to justify trust and money.

I’ve watched this happen repeatedly. Founders obsess over launch videos, reward tiers, and ad creatives, while quietly ignoring the hardest question: why would someone care enough to back this right now?

Execution matters, but it can’t compensate for a weak core. A polished campaign doesn’t fix a problem that feels optional, niche, or “nice to have.”

The campaigns that succeed usually start from pressure, not passion. They solve something people are already frustrated with, already spending money on, or already hacking around with imperfect solutions.

From the outside, those ideas often look boring. From a backer’s perspective, they feel obvious and obvious is what builds trust.

Once I started looking at projects through that lens, crowdfunding made a lot more sense. Fewer ideas felt “launch-ready,” but the ones that did had a much higher chance of resonating.

It stopped being about convincing people and started being about alignment, the right problem, the right audience, at the right moment.

Not every project belongs on Kickstarter, and that’s okay. But if the goal is to get funded, the real work starts months before the launch page goes live.

Curious how others here validate whether an idea is truly backer-worthy before committing to a campaign.

Self-Promotion My Kickstarter funded in an Hour and it’s been an amazing ride so far

I recently launched my second illustrated calendar Kickstarter, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to take off this quickly. We funded in less than an hour, earned a Project We Love badge, and have already unlocked several stretch goals.

It’s a queer zodiac + seasonal art calendar that I’ve been working on for a long time, so seeing people actually connect with the concept has been incredibly exciting.

If that sounds like your thing, definitely check it out! (please be 18+ )
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/axeishguy/seasonal-guys-nsfw-calendar-2027?ref=cc6jaw

I’m also planning to put together a separate post after the campaign breaking down how I prepared for the launch, what I changed from my first Kickstarter, what actually worked, advertising, reward structure, and things I’d do differently. Hopefully it can help some other artists planning their first campaign.

Self-Promotion I launched a Kickstarter where you can literally pay to do nothing — would you back this?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just launched a Kickstarter for something a bit unconventional:

👉 A subscription where you pay to do nothing

Not another productivity or meditation app — but something designed to force you to disconnect.

The idea came from noticing that people already pay for:

  • retreats
  • detox programs
  • coaching

Basically ways to escape constant stimulation.

This is a simpler, everyday version of that.

I’ve tested the idea on Reddit and got:

  • 30K+ views on one post
  • 25K+ on another
  • lots of debate (which I think is a good sign)

Now I’m trying to see if people would actually support it:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/officiallynothing/subscription-to-nothing

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback — even if you think it’s a terrible idea 😄

Self-Promotion My LUMA Kickstarter is live: how would you promote a narrative puzzle adventure?

Hi everyone!

I'm the creator of LUMA, a story-driven point-and-click puzzle adventure, and the Kickstarter campaign is already live. I'd love some practical advice from creators who have promoted their own campaigns, especially indie games.

In LUMA, you play as Nilo, a small robot following a signal from Luma through a city that is slowly losing its memories. The game focuses on exploration, repairing mechanisms, environmental puzzles, and a story about connection and remembering.

The development version already includes four playable chapters, a prologue, and an epilogue. The campaign helps fund further polish and publication, with releases planned for Steam, Android, and iOS. The game will be free to play, while backers can receive optional digital extras such as wallpapers, the soundtrack, and an artbook. AI-assisted tools are used in development, including generated illustrations, as disclosed on the campaign page.

Here's the project so you can see the gameplay, visuals, and campaign presentation:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sheetbros/luma-0?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=luma&total_hits=51

What I'm trying to figure out is:

  1. Which communities, creators, or channels would be a good fit for a game like this?
  2. What has actually helped you attract interested backers after a campaign was already live?
  3. Would you focus on short gameplay clips, a playable demo, outreach to small streamers, or something else first?
  4. Is anything on my campaign page unclear or making it harder for people to connect with the project, particularly the free game and optional reward model?

Honest feedback is welcome, including things you think I should improve before promoting it more widely. I'd really appreciate specific examples of what worked for you, and what wasn't worth the effort.

Thanks for taking the time to help!

Self-Promotion We’re making a $300M-style sci-fi epic for $30K; This Kickstarter will change storytelling history

Post image
0 Upvotes

We’ve been building a feature-length sci-fi film called EXIGENT, and we funded the first 20% ourselves. Now we’re opening it up because we want to finish the movie no matter what — and more importantly, show anyone, anywhere that large-scale sci-fi is possible on tiny resources.

The bigger goal isn’t just to make a film.

We’re documenting the entire process and turning it into a Making-Of book that breaks down the workflow, tools, and methods we’ve developed so anyone, regardless of budget or location, can follow the same path.

If 30,000 people back this for just $1, we can complete the film and give everyone the blueprint used to make it — so your imagination becomes the only limit.

Here’s the Kickstarter:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/exigentaimovie/exigent-0?ref=user_menu

Happy to answer any questions about the workflow, VFX process, or filmmaking approach!

Self-Promotion First Time Running Kickstarter Campaign, struggling getting followers... Looking for tips!

Hello everyone! This might be a "Question" flared post, but since I'll be talking about my Kickstarter I will use the "Self-Promotion" flair.

My brothers and I have designed a boardgame called "Bonbon". We have been working on it since Xmas 2024, and we opened the Kickstarter Precampaign back in February 2026. We want to launch the campaign once we have enough followers so that we don't run the risk of not achieving the goal (300 followers is our trigger). We have been sending the boardgame to different reviewers, but it doesn't help to rise the followers count number (it feels that we are only getting the reviewers to follow the precampaign, but not their audience). Of course, sending it to reviewers has helped us to upgrade our boardgame, but we aren't coming close to the 300 followers trigger :(

So naturally, I've started to wonder if there's something we are missing here... Maybe the precampaign website isn't attractive enough, or is missing important information (?). I honestly don't know... Should I try another way to promote my boardgame?? I'm gonna share the link to our Kickstarter so you can take a look to the website and share your opinion about it... Any help is really appreciated!!

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Self-Promotion Our indie game got funded on Kickstarter in just 5 hours & honestly, we are still processing it

Post image
8 Upvotes

We recently launched Eldrem Kingdoms on Kickstarter, and I wasn’t expecting the first few hours to move this fast.

We became fully funded in 5 hours and also received Kickstarter’s Project We Love badge. Seeing people actually back something our team has been building for more than one year has been a pretty surreal feeling.

Eldrem Kingdoms is a creature-collecting Action RPG where you tame, raise, breed and fight alongside creatures that grow with you, while exploring floating islands, riding dragons and eventually building your own kingdom.

One of the things we really wanted to do differently was make creatures feel like companions rather than replaceable stats. You raise them from babies, develop them over time, and they become part of your journey.

If that sounds like your kind of game, you can check the campaign out here:

We still have a long way to go with the campaign, and now the focus is on seeing how far we can push it and what additional content we can unlock.

Once the campaign is over, I’d also love to make a separate post breaking down how we prepared for launch, our pre-launch funnel, advertising, what converted, what didn’t, our reward structure, and what we would do differently next time.

There have already been a lot of lessons!

Self-Promotion Solo dev funding a renovation + mystery life-sim in 1540s Mediterranean - 58% with 12 days to go

Hi everyone ✨ I'm Ana, solo dev funding my first game Velanit: The Forgotten Cottage on Kickstarter!

It's a cottage renovation life-sim with detective puzzle elements in a 1540s Mediterranean coastal town. Stardew Valley meets Nancy Drew, with restoration as the core gameplay loop.

You buy an abandoned cottage on a hill. As you restore it you start finding things the former owner left behind. A man the townspeople called mad, who left puzzles only someone "worthy" would solve.

🏡 Renovate the cottage
🌿 Forage for local resources
🔨 Craft and decorate
🔍 Solve puzzles to uncover the mystery

Since launching, Velanit has been covered by two indie outlets:
🇮🇹 Indie Games Devel called it "one of the most compelling cozy projects currently in development"
🇨🇦 Cozy Game Reviews called it "the rare kind of cozy game that gives you something to figure out"

I'm at 58% funded with 12 days to go, and there's a free playable demo on Steam if you want to try it before backing 💖Would love your support if it sounds like your kind of game!

Self-Promotion Too ambitious? We’re launching in 48h and need brutally honest feedback

Hey everyone! After more than a year of intense work, we’re finally launching our Kickstarter campaign in 48 hours, and before we hit that green button, we’re looking for brutally honest feedback from this awesome community.

The game is called Vestiges of the Ancients, it’s a fantasy adventure board game where the miniatures move on their own thanks to an automatic system hidden inside the board. You control your character with a deck of cards, explore ancient rooms, reveal enemies, activate puzzles with your voice, and interact with a narrator that guides your story.

👉 Here’s the Kickstarter preview LINK

We know the campaign goal is ambitious, and we want to make sure the page is as clear, exciting, and trustworthy as possible.

What we’d love feedback on:

– Does the page feel clear and easy to understand?

– Does it build enough excitement or leave you with questions?

– Would you back this kind of game? If not, why?

– Anything confusing, missing, or off-putting?

We genuinely appreciate every single comment. It means a lot at this stage.

Thank you so much in advance!
