This made me cry - I could picture my Mom doing this - she was a drummer back in the 1920's. Just because we are old does NOT mean we are DONE!
Edit: due to the geriatric disaster we see everyday too many people tend to think that is what aging looks like - No, THIS WOMAN is more like Many many of us - We age - BUT WONT get OLD

I lived in NYC for a very long 2 years and struggled with nearly everything about it --but one of the things that always made me feel warm and fuzzy was how there were occasions when living so closely among 9 million strangers, there was these small glimmers of joy. People who typically would not normally interact due to societal norms, interacting in a joyous, miracle-like vein of creativity and humanness just for the sake of it. In a public space, but really doing it for themselves, for each other in that connection.
It would always make me tear up, and I'd be taken out of that moment by like some dude spitting on me or someone shoulder checking me bc I was in their way haha.

I hate that we dismiss the elderly. This woman never lost a beat.

u/dookieshoes97 1d ago
We don't dismiss the elderly, boomers are just overwhelmingly entitled assholes.
Maybe you're too young, but we revered the silent generation. They saw some shit, and went on a mission to make the world a better place.
Boomers assumed they were entitled to the same respect due to age, but it was never about that. It's that sort of entitlement that makes us dislike them. They had everything handed to them, a better world, then proceeded to pull up the ladder and doom us.

I’m not speaking of one generation. We, too, will be old one day and will be dismissed for it.

Yeah, it ain't the elderly I dismiss and ignore, it's specifically boomers. My grandparents were nowhere near as hateful and bigoted as my dad (68) and a lot of people his age are. I'm 37 and they died in my late teens and early 20's. If anyone was gonna have a semi valid "they grew up in a different time" excuse, it'd be their generation but whaddya know, they accepted everyone no questions asked. My mom's house was a safe place for the black kids (I specify them bc the area she grew up in was majority white, with a handful of black families, and her fam being literally the only asians [shes half white/half japanese]) and the gay kids she knew growing up.
My white ass grandpa's dad was literally in KKK when he was growing up and he still didn't end up a racist pos. That side of the family is still largely racist af. If he could avoid being a terrible person given his upbringing, anyone can. It's a choice to be hateful, selfish, and bigoted in big ol 2026.

This is a nice place. If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.
We do not allow:
- Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, ageism, etc.
- Harassment
- Trolling or sealioning
- Threats of any kind
- Abusive behavior
- General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.

No, misrepresenting the original mod comment and coming back with snark got you that removal comment. https://www.reddit.com/r/justgalsbeingchicks/s/UAIiN58gNO

Jesus, that woman lives in the pocket ❤️

u/themehboat 1d ago
What does that mean?
21
u/Dance-pants-rants 1d ago
That she easily plugged into their playing and is very good at reading the vibe.
Getting in the pocket is like a musical flow state- good drummers and rhythm sections drive it and when they sync- and bring along everyone else- it rules.

Being in the pocket is a term for people who have good rhythm, basically, but it's like, the beats hit just right. Like Granny is drumming in a way that isn't robotic, instead she feels the rhythm and plays the right beat for it.

I love seeing drummers play with other drummers. They are just excited to play music with each other and not have to deal with any other band member bullshit.

I hope to be this amazing at her age. I probably won't be, but I hope to be.

I am a bit younger than her (late 60's) and all it really takes is a great attitude! DON"T get old ( just age).

I feel like every time I see an old woman doing something skilled in male dominated fields of music, the energy in the comments are always “wow look at granny go! What a cool hobby!” But if it’s an old man it’s something like “proof why teachers are teachers” and applauding the decades of mastery of the craft.

Proving the theory that you’re either born with rhythm or your not.

There are a lot of women this age that picked up drumming because of Karen Carpenter. My mom did!

I used to drum in college. I can tell from her technique that she learned marching band-style (left hand holds the stick underhand to compensate for the angle of a military style marching snare). I bet she has stories!

Drumming is pretty easy to practice at least in part. I kept more of my drumming skills than trumpet since highschool. Granted some of the stick control doesn’t stay but the rhythm and some songs mostly do. Helped that I played bass drum and cymbals in drumline so no rolling or fancy tricks in my parts.

Can someone please tell me this isn’t AI??
7
u/SpacePanda25 23h ago
It's not. The best evidence I can give is the Lion King theatre show ad above them which is displayed correctly with the right animation. As a musical theatre fan, I can vouch for that sign.

Thank you, I love it so much.. my digital trust is so guarded though.

As a former drummer through college, I can confidently say this isn’t AI. The stick grip is perfect, the body language is right and the double tapping rolls line up unmistakably. Would be hard to fake this convincingly.

u/ChampionLife5205 19h ago
yea and also you don’t need to be a drummer to tell it’s not ai
there’s so much consistency through out the video. the audio matches exactly well w the taps.great work
