I lost my mum in 2018 and I only have one eyeshadow of hers but I will keep it forever. This hit hard. I really bloody miss you, mum.

I’ve had a tube of my mum’s body scrub sitting in my bathroom for 14 years now, could never bring myself to finish it but I also don’t want to throw it away so there it lives on the edge of my bath. This video had me sobbing at 9am 😭

I've done that with my sister's body wash and her shampoo and conditioner. When I miss her really bad I'll take a shower and use them all so I feel close to her.

Aw that's so touching. Would it be worth emptying and cleaning out the bottle and then placing it in a shadow box frame? It's a strange mix of comfort and sadness isn't it. I've used the eyeshadow a handful of times but have stopped cause I love opening it to see her favourite shimmery brown shade.

"I really hope she didn't know she was dying." 😭😭😭
My five-year old daughter's friend died at the beginning of this summer by drowning. This is the thought that I hate the most.

My dog died of lung cancer which we had no idea he had. We’d taken a camping trip a few months prior to his death, and every now and then I look at the photos and wonder if he knew he was sick even then. I looked so happy in those photos because I had no idea I only had a few months left with him.
From diagnosis to his passing was 10 days, and it was maybe the worst 10 days of my life knowing he was leaving soon. I’m glad we didn’t know back then how little time we had left, because we got to just be with him.

I’m fucking weeping. So that’s cool.
I have a very ratty puff powder situation from my grandmother. Just a stick and a fuzzy bit at the end, and you’d put baby powder in it. And then after you took a bath or a shower you could puff it around and on your back and I don’t particularly like the smell of baby powder, I didn’t use it on my own kids, I don’t get it.
But every now and again I’ll huff that ratty fluffy thing. Once in a blue moon I’ll buy some suave soap and mane and tail shampoo and conditioner and the puff puff puff myself. Put on an ancient nightgown. Have a nighttime cup of coffee. And then I cry. And then I hear her, she had the gentlest voice 98% of the time but when she laughed or felt something, she’d crow. And I can hear her crowing “stop, you’re making my eyes leak.” And I can feel her. I can feel her skin, I can rest my head on the divots her bra straps made, she’ll cover my face with her cool smooth paper made hands. She’ll clear her throat, wipe her eyes, tell me I’m being too much and she snuggles me closer. It’s a brief moment, a moment within a moment, but I have her for that moment.

Something neat about wearing the makeup of her mom is it’s a lot like the fingerprint, because there are dead (microscopic) demodex mites specifically from her mom in the makeup. They naturally build up in lipstick and mascara and, if quickly shared, can even transfer to another person. You get your own culture of demodex from both your parents. Their demodex are the parents of your demodex. So now this woman’s demodex have an opportunity to properly mourn her (and their) mother’s passing.

I still have my mum’s red Chanel lipstick that I bought her for her birthday. I miss her so much

My Mom always used original Jergens lotion. I have a big container of it and every night I lotion up and it's like a soft, scented hug from her.
It's been 9 years. Christmas 10 years ago was the last time I saw her, heard her laugh, hugged her. Sometimes it's still so hard.
I couldn't watch this the whole way - I just wanted to hug this girl because she lost her mom so young. I at least was 45 and had had all those years with mine.

My dad used cool waters cologne but accidentally bought the ladies version of it once and didn’t realize it until after a few wears (it smells so similar). I took it in his passing and I wear it on days I miss him. Just feels like he’s there sometimes even if it feels silly!

u/bea_nah 2d ago
The first time I smelled Cool Water on a guy at work, I ran straight to Macy’s after work and brought a bottle. I bought the men’s 🤭. Then realized I loved wearing men’s cologne more than my perfumes during the fall and winter. To this day I get compliments when I wear gray flannel.

u/mithril2020 2d ago
On micro perfumes I bought sample vials of Guerlain Heritage and Polo (green original). I sniff the envelope a couple times a year when I miss my dad. He passed when I was pregnant with my youngest. When I was an only child he was my best friend, my mother didn’t even hug me. My grandmother was not a hugger.

My mom used lubriderm and I smell it very rarely so I can keep that smell memory as crisp as possible.

I keep a bottle of my grandmother’s perfume in my drawer because of the smell of it. I’m all teary eyed at the love she and you all have experienced. Hugs for everyone.

My grandmother (died early 1990s) used a face powder that was re-released sometime in 2010-2015. I bought one just to smell it, and I still have it.

This is really beautiful. She shares tender memories, sadness, and happiness all together.
And she herself is beautiful too. The makeup looks fabulous.

This is so sweet. What a beautiful woman. I lost my mom 2 years ago and this made think of her. She loved pink lipstick. I got her one online and gave her a note that said how wonderful and beautiful she was. She kept that note in her purse with her lipstick. She was such a beautiful soul and I miss her everyday. This video was pure beauty. ❤️

She is so beautiful and lovely, I can only imagine what a beautiful chic lady her mum was. How on earth was the lipsticks blunted like that?? lol like how did she apply it I wonder…
This might be bc ima southern American so I sound like a bag of cats, but this lady’s accent’s so beautiful. She could read the phone book to me and I’d be lulled to such a peaceful sleep lol.
I lost my husband to suicide a few years back and one of the hardest truths is knowing he knew up to the end when the last times of everything was… it’s a nightmare thought I’ll live with for forever. I’m so so sorry this lovely lady lost her mother in such a traumatic way, bless them both

I felt this deeply and totally understood it. The fingerprint did me in. Last week was the two year anniversary of losing my mom and I have a bottle of her face lotion that is half full. I've used it a couple of times but I don't want to empty it, I just can't. It will be one more thing of hers thats gone and I just can't. What a beautiful way for her to connect with her mom.

I still have my moms hair dryer. When I turn it on I can smell her perfume and the skincare products she used. No one is allowed to ask why I keep a 30 year old hair dryer I don’t use in the closet.

My cousin was murdered too. This made me think of my nieces. Such sweet young women. Their mom was so beautiful, witty, and hilarious. I see her through them sometimes and it's so bittersweet now. But still more sweet.

My mom didn't wear any makeup, except for occasionally lip gloss that came in a little cherry shaped container. It's been 23 years since she passed and I still have that container on my dresser.

I lost my egg donor thrice in my life. She left my dad and I when I was two, then tried visitation for several years until I was around 6-8y/o, then she died when I was 22y/o.
She told me she was leaving me behind, the second time. The way she said it was so cold and ripped me to shreds.
I cannot imagine having my mum being murdered, talk about having your heart ripped to shreds. Not only do you have a mum-shaped hole in your heart, but you also have the murdered grief on top of the normal destruction of the foundation of your life.
My single dad's death ripped me apart, but it wasn't as bad as the betrayal I felt when my egg donor left us behind.
The problem with such a betrayal is that I couldn't trust other women to actually stay in my life. They would always leave, never tell me why, and just disappear. Why should I trust women ever again? I never understood them.
I loved their welcoming, loving hugs, their understanding, but I can only guess that no one really wanting to deal with someone who didn't have any way to understand my femme side, only my masc. They always thought that I should already know all that, but how can I when I never had someone who was willing to stick around and actually stay.
Though my dad was late in life by the time I was born, he stuck around for most of my life, until nature called him home again to the aether as energy and star stuff. I know he would have been there for the rest until he could, if he wasn't so old when I was born (he grew up during The Great Depression, like Betty White he was older than sliced bread, literally).
If only I could have had an understanding like she did of my mom, if only she had stuck around, if only she were normal, compassionate, loving person. If only I could understand what others have experienced and have taken for granted.

My grandmother had a jar of Gloria Vanderbilt powder, it smelled so good. It’s the one smell that gives me a direct line to her memory.

I lost my mom last year. She wasn’t big on makeup as she got older, she was a natural beauty.
When my sister and I were little though, she would do her makeup last so my sister and I could watch her get ready as a reward for being ready on time.

My grandmother was basically my mom growing up, when she passed I didn’t realize I was never going to have someone in my life who was as warm, inviting, and understanding as her in my life again. I still have her lipstick and I’ll never get rid of it, she was the most glamorous woman to me growing up. This hit hard but was beautiful to watch.

Smell is our strongest memory bringer-backer. Everyone, keep all of your smelly things 💕. It’s one way we can help process our loss. When you’re ready, you’ll know and then you can move into the next phase of transition… as smelling the things is the first phase you’ve already begun 😇💕

my roommate and I used the same brand of lip balm for years but we never accidentally mixed them up because mine would always wear flat and hers were super angled. No idea why. Just a funny difference in pressure/angle I guess. It didn’t seem like were were doing anything drastically different

This is one of the most beautiful heartbreaking moments I’ve seen. She’s so lovely and you know her mom was just as lovely as her. The fingerprint took me down. Tears streaming down my face. I feel lucky she shared this moment and I don’t even know this beautiful young girl.

When my grandmother passed, her mother, we were so upset on how she looked on funeral day. She didn't look like my grandmother. They didn't even bother putting on her frosty pink lipstick, which I thankfully have one of her signature lipsticks that I was able to keep.
I lost my mom 12 years ago to cancer. When she was in hospice, and I wonder if she knew her time was coming to a close, she looked at me and told me that she wanted me to do her makeup when she passed because she knew I would not make the mistakes that happened with her mother and I would make her look like her again. I was a practicing makeup artist at the time, so of course I said yes. I would never deny her anything. Even if I was not a makeup artist, I probably would have said yes.
I'm so thankful that the funeral home allowed me to do that regardless of not having the certification as it was one of her last requests. It was just me and and my mother alone in a nicely decorated room. I spoke to her even though she was no longer there physically. It was one of the nicest and best send-offs I could possibly ask for. I am still thankful over a decade later that I had that one-on-one time with my mother and dealing with her death. I have some of her lip glosses that she loved and always had me buy with my discount 😂 funny enough, the funeral director complimented my artistry and wondered if I would ever pursue that particular line of work. I genuinely have thought about it lol
All this to share with strangers such as yourselves that have also lost someone in their lives that this video has reminded us a little something we may have of theirs that seems so insignificant, but it holds so much memory and love with us. This video had me tear up and shed a drop or two but writing this out for you all to either read or ignore, has me bawling. I am so sorry for all of your losses and keep those little trinkets or makeup close to you because sometimes you just need that little reminder that they were real. 🖤🖤
