My 401k skyrocketed during Bill Clinton it completely tanked during GW Bush did very, very well during Obama years, during Trump 1 it just idled along not gaining much not losing much, during Biden I made steady gains and now Trump 2 it's a scary ride because he's trying to manipulate everything for his own gain which means he's going to screw us over as usual.

- Trump's economy lost 2.7 million jobs, most of any US President in history
- The unemployment rate increased to close to 7% (Biden has it back under 4%)
- The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up 36% (!), the highest since the previous Republican admin.
- His tariff war with China cost American consumers over $80 billion in one year, over $240 billion overall, kicking off the recent rise in inflation. But the total cost to American business was much higher, in the trillions.
- The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3.2 million during his tenure. But that's OK, President Biden got most of them back, the ones who didn't die from Trump's pathetic response to the pandemic.
- Trump promised to eliminate the national budget deficit. Instead, he set a record, jacking up the national budget deficit from $665 million to $3.3 triliion!!! (Biden has since cut that almost in half, while cleaning up after the orange shit show).
- Consequently the federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion. Trump added more debt in one four year term than any president in history.
- Illegal immigration increased during his term. Apprehensions at the Southwest border rose 14.7% last year compared with 2016.]
- Coal production declined 26.5%, and coal-mining jobs dropped by 25%. OK, that is a good thing, despite what he actually wanted.
- The murder rate his last year rose to the highest level since 1997.
- And he mishandled the pandemic, er, I mean "hoax", so very badly, experts say 100s of thousands Americans lost their lives unnecessarily
- His cabinet broke the law by using an improperly secure app on private phones to discuss classified plans and shared those plans with a private citizen unwittingly
- Crashed the stock market so hard, millions of Americans lost over 6 trillions of dollars of wealth and retirement last April. And he's crashing the economy yet again, the dollar is down over 10% and prices continue to skyrocket.
When it comes to lying, no one does it as much as Trump and his cult. No one.

I think it's a basic worldview difference. I, as a progressive humanist, orient my worldview around reducing the harm of and increasing the wellbeing of sentient creatures and beings. Conservatives are oriented around power, hierarchy and control. They don't care that Trump causes harm- in fact, in their worldview it can be a good thing, a sign of strength.
It's a fucking insane way to orient a society imho, but apparently it's had enough of an evolutionary advantage that this behavior has been a constant problem throughout human history. Those willing to harm others for personal gain do have a survival advantage.
So for us, our leaders doing harmful, illegal, societally prohibited things is bad and undesirable. To them, their guy getting away with murder (well, pedophilia more famously) is strong and good.

I make sure to try to vote in local and state elections, but I used to live in the redneck county outside a moderately civilized city. It always ended up being red, but Im a rescue and my fiance scooped me up and I live in the city now. One time I went to vote a few years ago there were these 2 republican guys handing out flyers for who to vote for. I guess they got excited when a white girl dressed like a 50's housewife strolled by and basically shoved the paper into my hands. I very politely took it, and blew a very loud, very gooey, still 1/2 sick from a sinus infection booger fetus out from my poor nose into the paper. I smiled and said "thanks I needed that!" without breaking a stride and voted for the people that aren't pedos

Just gonna say that while Dafoe is an excellent actor and this is not meant to diminish his work, credit should be equally given to director Mary Harron and editor Andrew Marcus because all of Dafoe's scenes were filmed multiple times played as him either knowing or not knowing Patrick is a murderer and then spliced together mixing both versions which makes his character both competent and incompetent in the same scene adding to the tension.

I'd argue if we didn't have all the racism 50s and 60s were quite good economically. You can have a basic job, single income family and have 5 kids, a house, a car, and it was very sustainable. Those days are long gone, and I really don't see how kids coming out of college these days will be able to get houses.

None of that is true. At no point could you maintain a family of 7 on a single “basic” income. Hell, throughout the 50s and 60s both partners tended to work, it’s just that women tended to have to do things that weren’t considered “work” at the time like childcare or extra laundry.

Yeah you have no idea what you're talking about. You're both angry and incorrect. This is both well documented and well known. Homes were 2.2x the median salary and a whopping 7000 dollars, college was 300 dollars. Compare that to today if you'd like.
My grandparents are the perfect example as immigrants, grandpa a dockhand with no college education, grandma stayed home with the kids. He made about $2 an hour. They had a 3 floor house, a car, and 6 kids, they lived in Chicago. Times were vastly different back then. On today's basis he made the equivalent of 50k and sent all of his kids to college. Now tell me does this world still exist?

Remember that a vast majority of the US didn't vote for him. There were plenty who didn't vote but there were others who were prevented from voting by the Republicans using various means. Blame the perpetrators, not everyone else.
