I'm face blind and recognize people mostly based on facial expressions and mannerisms and it took me a bit to realize that this was a parody. I thought it was actually her for a good few seconds and was wondering why it was in this sub.

Same same. I recognize people by their eyebrow movements and like, the muscles and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes.

New documentary on Elizabeth Holmes is coming out and this is a parody of one of the scenes shown in the trailer for it.

From the new horror/thriller movie You Can See Everything starring Elizabeth Holmes as herself

u/Jnnjuggle32 6d ago
Just to clarify for anyone - itās a documentary but one thatās gonna make everyone really uncomfy.

u/JPKtoxicwaste 6d ago
Every time I see this video for the first few seconds I always think itās Elizabeth Holmes, itās never until they show they guy that is not Nathan Fielder that my brain actually realizes what Iām seeing.
Itās the unblinking eyes, the stare, the slight head nodding, the Pennywise smile⦠this lady is a little too good lol

u/figuringthingsout__ 5d ago
I love that it's the first shot of the trailer. If you don't know it's a documentary, you would think it's a thriller.

Have you seen the trailer for the movie? Sheās doing that because thatās how Elizabeth Holmes looked in the preview. Itās weird and creepy, but thatās the point.

The scary part is, Holmes is even more psychotic looking...i genuinely think she's a psychopath...

The trailer, and especially that scene, triggers my fight/flight response on a visceral level.

I'd more shocked if she isn't, you kind of have to be one to pull off a scam like that

She looks like AI to me. Or an android. Like robots from I, Robot looked more human lmao

Itās mocking the Elizabeth Holmes documentary thatās coming out soon called you can see everything (I believe is the title) with Nathan Fielder. It looks wild. Watch a trailer and youāll see what they are referring to.

u/80Lashes 7d ago
More of a parody than a mockery.

I need to know what the "graphic nudity" is? How? Why? And why do I think it's going to be Nathan's? I am baffled.

As someone who has never heard of either of these people (and has limited time on their hands) I keep forgetting to google the names of the people involved and so I have absolutely no clue what the trailer is teasing whatsoever

Elizabeth Holmes ran a medical device company named Theranos, despite no formal medical, business, or engineering training and dropping out of college. She claimed her company was developing a device that could test for and diagnose any disease with only a few drops of blood from the pinprick of a person's finger. She spent years lying to investors, claiming that anyone in the medical community who said such a device was impossible were part of a conspiracy to keep such innovations out of the industry in order to keep making money by only testing intravenous blood. Unsurprisingly, the devices did not work, the science behind the idea is actually incredibly ridiculous, and it's wild that anyone with basic Googling skills could have fallen for such a scam, but they did because having a lot of money does not magically make you smart. Even if the devices had worked, the company was bleeding money and not making a profit, but she paid them all heavily in stock, so they made more money by believing blindly than asking questions.
The problem was that her lies didn't only impact investors. She managed to convince Walgreens and some doctor's offices to start using her machines for real patients' tests, producing incorrect results that caused major Ā medication and diagnosis mishaps. Her employees also suffered greatly due to a very toxic workplace, strict non-disclosures, and being harassed relentlessly if they ever tried to leave or ask any questions about the legitimacy of their work.
The media was also very taken in by her being a young, pretty, blonde girl with a new idea. She Ā made her voice much deeper, claiming it was natural, wore turtlenecks to look like Steve Jobs, and either intentionally or unintentionally (who can say at this point) exuded this very intense, very strange energy where she basically talked a lot without blinking and kind of bugged her eyes out. I assume she thinks it makes her seem more honest or she's trying to hypnotize people to believe her lies, but despite being caught, tried, convicted, and sent to prison for her crimes, she is continuing to act in the same (terrifying, sociopathic) way.Ā
Anyway, like the other commenter said, this is a parody of a trailer for a documentary that a comedian named Nathan Fielder filmed between, I believe, her conviction and her actually being sent to prison. He and his small crew lived with her, her husband, and their children in their house for a few months, and had to keep straight faces while she and her husband (who is now running his own mini blood testing device company that sounds exactly like Theranos Part 2, but he claims she has nothing to do with it and it's not a scam) lied to their faces the entire time, trying to make her seem well-intentioned, naive, and sympathetic. It looks very bizarre but very entertaining, and I plan to see it.Ā
If you're interested in knowing more, I would recommend the book Bad Blood by John Carreyrou, who is the journalist who helped expose Theranos. The video essayist, Coffee and Cults, on YouTube has also done a lot of fantastic deep dives into this topic.

Elizabeth Holmes ran a medical device company named Theranos, despite no formal medical, business, or engineering training and dropping out of college.
Pedantic correction: "Holmes attended Stanford, where she studied chemical engineering and worked as a student researcher and laboratory assistant in the School of Engineering. After the end of her freshman year, Holmes worked in a laboratory at the Genome Institute of Singapore and tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1) through the collection of blood samples with syringes."
She dropped out of Stanford though and didn't finish her degree.

u/ScowlyBrowSpinster 7d ago
The best part of her grifting was the long list of rich and connected idiots who fell for her wide-eyed, low talking swindle! They didn't have much to say once it all came out. How embarrassing!

If you're unfamiliar with Nathan Fielder I would describe his POV as trying to "out-awkward" everyone. It can be extremely funny but also extremely unsettling and uncomfortable. I think this is a big part of the reason there is so much talk about his upcoming documentary. The clips that have been released so far make her look like a worthy opponent.
4
u/morbid_n_creepifying 7d ago
Yeah the trailer is super unsettling and due to the fact I have never heard of either of these people it definitely isn't making me want to watch it. It's like a documentary version of "I Think You Should Leave" and I haaaaaaaate that show
6
u/S3XWITCH 7d ago
Yeah if you donāt like ITYSL I donāt think you would enjoy Nathan Fielderās comedy style. Heās all about the super awkward dead pan, but also has a lot of heartwarming/wholesome bits too.

u/Hands 7d ago
If you don't have the stomach for cringe comedy and extreme secondhand embarrassment etc you're gonna have trouble digesting anything involving Nathan Fielder. He's a goddamn genius though
6
u/morbid_n_creepifying 7d ago
That explains why I've never heard of him. Cringe comedy makes me want to fire myself into the sun. My life is cringe enough as it is, I can't consume entertainment that is just my life

That wasā¦..so strange to watch. Iāve never seen a documentary, an ostensibly true movie, presented so much like a horror movie. Itās fascinating. I might watch it just on the basis of that, even though I donāt usually watch documentaries on living people
