Same! So many ppl that find out I have twins and even some friends are like wow that’s amazing you’re superwoman and I’m like some ppl have 3 at once! Or 4! Having twins def puts a lot into perspective 🤣

Any time my sister or I were being difficult, my mum would say that she wishes us triplets.

85

u/squish042 26d ago

at least they have family around to help...a grandma, a grandpa and a great grandma. I would die for just one of those right now and I don't have triplets

To summarise, having triplets in the American economy is:

But also

And sometimes

He is on a video call. Maybe he has the privilege of beunf far away. Dad and grandma are realising that their lifes will change a lot more than they thought. And that everyone will be poor.

77

u/maddenmcfadden 25d ago

im a twin and i have no children. my twin brother has six kids. all of my siblings (five of them) had families. i have a milliona nieces and nephews. being the cool uncle is a ton of fun, and i have zero responsibility.

its nice. going to events and having fun with all the kiddos and then going home to the most quiet and serene place ever.

the best of both worlds.

Him walking by later in the video with a blood pressure monitor is even funnier than the original reaction lol

66

u/KatefromtheHudd 25d ago

It's not so much the economy. It's the fact they will all run in three different directions as soon as they are able! Toddlers are so much faster at running than you think, until you have one! Three!!!! That's a terrifying prospect!

29

u/Rebelius 25d ago

It's the way they can change direction in small spaces. I'm obviously much faster at running than my 2 year old, but running around the house it can be pretty even. Add in trying to catch her without her falling on her face, or drop whatever fragile/sharp thing she's carrying and it's more difficult.

Then your triplets are never making it full term, so you've got premie stress on top. I hope they have family/support networks nearby and not the other side of the country. Multiples sounds rough for at least the first few years.

10

u/ResourceCalm901 25d ago

The whole telepathy thing with multiples takes me out. They can just signal each other: “You go that way; I’ll zigzag. And you? Improvise. Go!”

17

u/MurderMelon 25d ago

Oh it's definitely also the economy...

42

u/Excellent_Bend8782 26d ago

That's not her husband though is it? I thought that's the new mom's dad. Call me crazy but I thought it's usually the father of the bride that helps pay, not Grandpa, no?

It’s so refreshing hearing a comment like this . I was always gruelled over not giving enough money to my parents even though I had something like 0.00000003% of what they had & in poverty but they were privileged.

They never offered anything I ever needed (I would have needed to beg- but I don’t do that). They only complained at me I needed to always provide for them.

This comment touched me more than it should. I love learning and seeing that people in the world would actually do this out of obligation or even want the best for their family or even be expected to be a part of things like this. I wish I could have experienced what that was but I do through things like comments like this. It might be normal but in my world it comes off as exceptionally loving kind and thoughtful 💛 just having these kinds of thoughts & values. I really look up to & have great respect for people like yourselves and your families. Just know you are very special.

I watched one of mine they would not provide anything for siblings just went for the meal and kept the menu of what they ate framed as a memory. 🤢

I’m sorry, but I cannot fucking imagine.

1.1k

u/allshookup1640 26d ago

I worked with a girl for a while who was an IDENTICAL triplet. That’s even worse! Her sisters came in once and it was so trippy. It’s so much stranger than twins.

560

u/orphan_blud 26d ago

At that point, it’s a cult. Change my mind.

109

u/SeaToShy 26d ago

I mean they almost can’t help but be right?

Growing up they always made sure to break up twins into separate classes to allow them to develop a sense of self. But how many elementary schools are rolling with 3 classes per grade? You’re almost guaranteed to have 2/1, or all 3 together if the school is small enough.

81

u/Environmental_Art591 26d ago

But how many elementary schools are rolling with 3 classes per grade?

Must be a cultural thing because where i am in Australia, unless you pay big bucks for a private school or live in the middle of no where, all the public schools around me average 4 classes per grade with 20-30 kids each class

46

u/pinkaban 26d ago

May be more of a population size thing as well for the region?

24

u/SCsprinter13 25d ago

Yeah, I grew up in a pretty rural area and we had 2 classes per grade

But now in suburban Virginia my daughter's school has 5 or 6 classes per grade. Splitting them up would be trivial.

7

u/Raptor-Queen 25d ago

When my family moved and I started a new school in grade 6, there were 10-12 classes per grade!

I met a guy years ago and was creeping his FB and found all these wedding photos. I was like, this MFer is married! Then I looked closer, nope, there were three of him.

52

u/huskeya4 25d ago

My best friends have a set of identical triplet cousins. They were adults when I met them and the moment all three showed up the first time I leaned over to one of my friends and said “I guess the bald gene was identical too, huh?” Their grandma cracked up laughing behind us and informed us that all three guys had their first children born within the same year and were all three bald by the end of that year.

You could not tell them apart from each other at all except by how chummy they were with their wives. We literally kept track of them by which one had their arms around which wife. To be fair, that entire side of the family lived multiple states away from our home state so I only met them the one time I tagged along on their vacation and my friends only saw them once a year and never often enough to pick out other differences. Their grandma kept correcting all three of us when we’d take a wild guess at which triplet we were watching (cause their wife wandered away) and we kept getting it wrong. It didn’t help that they all had the same fashion sense and kept showing up in practically identical outfits to the events (and then getting mad that their brothers were copying them again). They were honestly hilarious.

→ More replies (3)

25

u/calmdrive 26d ago

I went to school with identical triplets! It was wild

22

u/aggie82005 26d ago

I wonder with them being separated like that if two are identical and one will be fraternal?

42

u/allshookup1640 26d ago

It looks like the two are sharing a sac so they can only be identical. It means the same egg split. Usually the third is fraternal from an entirely different sperm and egg. However, it is possible the other is identical if it shares the same placenta. I can’t tell from the image.

But the likelihood is two identical L’s and one fraternal. All triplets

18

u/Vinnie_Vegas 25d ago

It's possibly like my friend who's a triplet - IVF, multiple embryos implanted for higher rate of success, and then one splits to become identical twins, in addition to the other one taking hold.

Store I worked at hired identical twin teenage boys, they looked different enough that you could tell them apart easily though. One day they were standing chatting with another teen boy, i did the biggest double take of my life cus the kid looked completely like both of the identical-but-not-quite twins at the same time. It was like an optical illusion, literally thought I was hallucinating. Nope, they were identical triplets.

Their dad worked there too and never mentioned it. All of them think it's funny to let people work it out on their own.

8

u/groovyghostpuppy 25d ago

I worked with someone who had triplets - two identical and one not. The odd one out had a really shitty time of it, her sisters were cliquey and mean.

u/Visual-Taro-381 26d ago

We took a few baby classes before ours was born. One being a breast feeding class. One mom to be had decided to do motherhood on her own, and ended up being pregnant with twins. Her mom was there at the class and I am hopeful she was planning to move in…

Cause oh my god I think about that woman to this day and hope everything turned out okay.

i had a colleague with twins. he considered himself lucky if he had 2-3 hours of sleep each night even taking turns with his wife.

With triplets no sleep for 3 years is a guaranteed unless the grandpas and grandmas start helping some nights.

Parents are superheroes

18

u/W8andC77 25d ago

I remember asking my friend who had twins once when we got lunch: “so do you just train them to have the same sleep schedule”. And the look she gave me. She was so tired for a year and a half. They came crazy early and had lots of dietary issues and that woman was just the picture of bone tired.

Grew up all my life with it told to me that I'm 'next in line' to have twins, so did my wife. The first ultrasound was nerve wracking purely because of that. Thankfully it turns out he was running solo.

But we had some genuine fear on having twins, like we had to talk about what we'd do if it turns out to be twins and we had no idea.

42

Thank you! Her name is Eleanor Pawsevelt and she's actually scarily smart. Twice she's set up an alibi crinkle ball while chewing into a bag of treats. When I came to investigate the plastic sound she ran out from under the table and pretended the sound was just the crinkle toy. She's also obsessed with sniffing mouths. All mouths must be inspected.

29

u/DoriansSelfie 25d ago

I have an Eleanor! We call her the queen. She also has a brother who is at all times looking for his brain cell and a canine sister who keeps them in check when they start squabbling.

13

u/Hippie_Go_Lucky_ 25d ago

My dog was a dental hygienist as well! 😂 Always inspecting people's mouths to sniff out what kinda snacks we had but didn't share. She'd give a real judgemental scoff and walk away with such an attitude if she smelled something she liked. The betrayal! 💀

I think this is something more people who do want kids should ask themselves. Do you want kids no matter the outcome? Would you be okay with triplets? Would you be okay if they had certain difficulties? So many people go into having kids just assuming everything will be fine. If you’re in no matter what, that’s wonderful. Otherwise, maybe adopt?

54

u/DeviValentine 26d ago

Yep, I started thinking about that when I was actively trying, especially since my aunt always wished twins on me and I was like, "Nope! I know my limitations and I don't want kids that bad." I also read "We Should Talk About Kevin" and realized how WRONG everything could get, very easily.

I have a toddler and an infant right now and a friend of mine is having twins. And while I'm genuinely pleased for them (it's been a long road and they only wanted two kids anyway so only one pregnancy necessary) at the same time I'm also genuinely concerned for them. Because I can't imagine. Triplets????? Fuck no. I'd hear that in an ultrasound suite and never recover. Pretty sure I'd dissociate until they were 18.

Triplets and beyond shouldn’t be biologically possible. It’s just plain cruel. I know Miracle of life yadda yadda, but 3 children at once?!? It is insanely expensive to have ONE child! Three?!? That’s three of EVERYTHING. Diapers alone will bankrupt you.

Mom and dad will be so exhausted beyond normal. I can’t even imagine.

I feel like the human body shouldn’t be able to do more than twins. Twins should even be rarer than they are. Just wow. I couldn’t handle that in a million years. Absolutely best of luck to them! Sending my most positive vibes, they’ll need them!

The maximum really ought equal the number of nipples. If you can’t feed two at once it’s too many.

u/allshookup1640 26d ago edited 25d ago

You know what? That’s fair enough. Some people do have more than 2 nipples à la Chandler Bing, but I’ve never heard of a case that someone could nurse a baby from it.

I never thought of someone breast feeding twin babies at the same time, but I suppose that’s possible. I know some babies weirdly have a preference as to which breast they nurse from. It’s odd, but it’s true.

It’s an Elvis song. My dad was super into Elvis when I was growing up.

Maybe one though it´s "Alls Hookup" ;-)

16

u/allshookup1640 25d ago

Oh no 😂
All Shook Up. It was my favorite when I was a kid because my dad would do this silly dance when it came on to make me laugh. It never failed to crack me up and make me smile

For the most part, it's not. Most of the time when stuff like this happens, it's the result of fertility drugs.

42

u/allshookup1640 26d ago

Usually, yes, but sometimes it just happens. Biological anomalies

We literally shouldn't be able to have more than two at a time. That's why we only have two nipples, and no I'm not kidding.

6

u/allshookup1640 25d ago

Someone brought up that exact same point down below. They had quite the valid argument. I agree with you both! I never thought of someone nursing both twins at once but I suppose it’s entirely possible!

This is what I was thinking. And it looks like she might still live at home with her parents?

A quick spin around Instagram shows that this insanely powerful woman gave birth to her three adorable identical triplet daughters a couple of weeks before her 24th birthday! They were naturally conceived, which is super rare for triplets at all and even more rare for identical triplets. They joined an older sister who was born like…18 months before them or something. So now the family has four under two. I cannot imagine.

39

u/Makeupanopinion 25d ago

Her 24th birthday 😭 omg i'm not even 30 yet but fuck that seems so young to be doing serious life like this

u/RedHeadRedeemed 25d ago

I mean you might as well get a nanny because at that point you're essentially running a daycare lol

He’s carrying a blood pressure monitor. He’s not over it

idk... I feel like if I got that kind of news and everyone reacted like it was a horrible curse it would make me very depressed and almost ashamed of something out of my control. That would take a toll before the actual toll even starts 😭

My husband and I had been home with our newborn for a week, no help, just us fighting for our lives. A commercial for a local medical group came on the TV one day that said something like “we’re here for you, for all of life’s surprises” while showing a woman being handed her third baby (triplets). My husband and I just start fucking laughing like maniacs. Like HOW?! It was such an absurd thought and in our sleep deprived state it was hilarious. God. Fuck that shit hahaha

19

u/catuknotlove 26d ago

ok but it made me sad that one of the babies is in its own sac :(

27

u/ionlyjoined4thecats 26d ago

If it makes you feel better, that would make that baby much safer.

But also the text in the video says she found out the two that look like they’re sharing a sack actually have a membrane between them, so it’s considered two sacks.

16

u/Choice-Document-6225 26d ago

They're going to feel left out :(

23

u/Loose_Awareness_1929 25d ago

Unpopular opinion time. Coupled with arm chair body language expert

These people don’t think she’s ready for one kid. They all talk about it between each other. Now they are learning she’s having three.

The dad is realizing he’s going to be a primary parent for 3 infants. He’s dumbfounded.

everybody's face screaming, in this economy??

15

u/PowderCuffs 26d ago

We have (spontaneous, identical) triplets daughters. They're grown now so we have the benefit of time amnesia for how crazy that phase of our life was, but we absolutely remember the terror of that first sonogram!

(We also had fraternal twin boys ten years later after I was told I couldn't have more kids. Somehow that was more shocking that the triplets!)

Glad I’m gay, I can barely afford to keep myself alive, I couldn’t imagine having to suddenly earn enough money to raise three kids
