ANNOUNCMENT 📢 Hello and Welcome!
Welcome one and all to r/jewishpolitics, a place for Jews to talk politics! This sub was created for two reasons:
Like many of you, our experience with most other political spaces on reddit have ended up with us being either excluded or tokenized. This is a place for us to talk politics where we can speak as Jews without speaking for Jews.
Politics can be an exhausting topic and we should have safe spaces to be Jewish on reddit without any political requirements. The mod team here is (for the most part) also moderating r/Jewish. So, our goal is to leave some of the divisive political talk out of that sub (and perhaps others) so it can continue to serve all kinds of Jews. Creating a separate sub for politics allows us to fine-tune the rules here to be more conducive for political discussions. This is a work in progress, so expect us to take your feedback and make adjustments as we move forward.
This space is explicitly open to all kinds of political discussion, as long as the rules in the sidebar are followed. Assuming good faith and using civil language are the foundation of productive discussion among those who disagree on politics.
We expect most discussion to be focused on US and Israeli politics, but any political topic that impacts Jews is allowed.
Feel free to leave a message with any suggestions or feedback, and thanks for reading. And again, welcome to r/jewishpolitics!

Discussion 💬 UK Green party motion: zionism = racism
UK Green Party: Antisemitic Motion
At its party conference, the UK Green Party adopted a motion equating Zionism with racism. The motion was passed by 1,022 votes to 813.
Zionism is the movement for the Jewish people’s right to self-determination after 2,000 years of persecution as a minority in countless host countries, culminating in the absolute horror of the Holocaust.
By adopting this motion, the Green Party is effectively refusing to recognise the Jewish people’s right to self-determination, while at the same time vigorously defending that very same right for the Palestinian people.
The contradiction becomes even more striking when one looks at what the party actually adopted. The Green Party now formally describes itself as anti-Zionist and supports “a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine.”
Whatever language one chooses to dress this up in, the practical implication is difficult to avoid: the existing Jewish State of Israel would cease to exist as a Jewish state and would be replaced by a single Palestinian state.
The motion was submitted by Lubna Speitan, a British-Palestinian artist and activist. One of the Green Party’s two deputy leaders is Mothin Ali, who supported the motion.
A British political party has therefore reached the extraordinary position of vigorously defending Palestinian national self-determination while rejecting Jewish national self-determination and advocating a political outcome that would end Israel’s existence as the Jewish nation-state.
I can only hope that we open our eyes before it is too late.

Discussion 💬 Why are even leftists obsessed with antisemitism?
Well, just as with other forms of bigotry such as misogyny, homophobia, and, to a lesser extent, racism, I would say that many leftists are also quite antisemitic. And I’m not saying this as an exaggeration; there seems to be a certain obsession with Jews — an obsession with dismissing the culture, values, and the contributions many of them have made to human civilization throughout history.
Jews are very often portrayed as the bastion of capitalism, as this privileged group that supposedly wants to “control” the world. Even though so many Jews throughout history have held left-wing values and fought for workers’ rights and human rights around the world. Jewish intellectuals have spoken about the values of the Left and about how the world could become a better place, yet today leftists ignore all of that and instead choose to mock Jews and focus only on the most extreme elements of the Jewish community — something they obviously don’t do with other religions or nationalities to the same extent.
I'll never get it.

US Politics 🇺🇸 Jewish groups hail California law making it the first state to list ‘Jewish’ as an ethnicity
California has become the first U.S. state to legally recognize “Jewish” as an ethnicity as well as a religious identity, under a new law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. Beginning in 2029, public agencies will be required to include Jewish as an optional ethnicity/race category in demographic data collection, which Jewish organizations say will improve tracking of disparities in areas such as hate crimes, education, health and poverty. Newsom supported the goal but expressed concerns about how the law’s requirements will interact with federal rules and state agencies.

Discussion 💬 I'm exhausted by the left OBSESSION with Israel
Being a leftist myself I mainly consume leftist content and people around me are left-leaning. On the content side, the obsession seem to never dwindle. Israel comes up SO OFTEN, it's insane. And it seems to genuinely trigger the content creators, I spot deep anger. I honestly feel like they are psychotic. They lie so often, distort facts, and they can reverse victim and offender even when I thought it could not be possible, given the facts. I wish I could know where the line is between malevolent forces (like maybe Qatar paying them) and real conviction. I think the second is the case more times than I wish it was.
Real people around me at least don't seem to care that much, but their opinions and mental disposition are still very antisemitic. Yesterday a friend of mine told me how the news story of the flight could be a false flag and I was baffled. I thought he was an intelligent person, but after this schizo shit I'm reconsidering. It's literally a brain worm turning their minds to mush.
Anyway I'm tired, Reddit is absolutely flooded by antisemitic and pro-pal bots, and the last few generalist subs that I used to enjoy because they were clean are now infected too. This is probably the only sub where I can post this rant without being downvoted to oblivion or banned.

Discussion 💬 Justifying antisemitism: Political liberalism and perceptions of prejudices
A recent scientific study found: Absent justifications, individuals expressing antisemitism (and other prejudices) are generally disliked and more so by liberals than by conservatives. However, when these individuals justify their antisemitism by disapproval of Israel and the war in Gaza or violations by Israel of the human rights of Palestinians, they are liked more by liberals (but not conservatives). We find support for two group-based explanations for this "licensing" effect of justifications

World Politics 🌎 The Gaza Ministry of Health has released mortality numbers for 2025
The Gaza Ministry of Health has released mortality numbers for 2025
Notable findings include:
In 2025 there were a total of 24,650 deaths in Gaza. 18,870 (76.6%) of these were violent, of which 17,286 (70.1%) were due to "war operations" and 1,584 (6.4%) were classified as accidents. There were a total of 5,780 (23.4%) non-violent deaths, including disease, old age, and all other causes.
According to Twitter, "5,780 deaths is about the same as the annual non-violent mortality in Gaza before the war, and the age distribution is similar to 2022. There is no significant excess of non-violent deaths."
To put it another way: "The official mortality figures for 2025 report 5,780 non-violent deaths - virtually identical to the pre-war 2022 figure of around 5,820."
This chart shows that 1,000 children out of >1 million died from ALL non-war causes in 2025—disease, malnutrition, accidents—similar to pre-war levels.
The Gaza MoH's own numbers have destroyed the narrative of genocide and certainly of famine. If there had been famine, there should have been 400 people dying every day of the year from hunger alone, which would have been 146,000 people in a year.
Also of interest: "As there were 50,227 births in 2025, this gives a natural population growth of 25,577 or 1.2% in Gaza in 2025, which is higher population growth than most countries in the world and more than the world average."
Share this good news with your local Palestine supporter! They will be so relieved to hear there was no famine in Gaza in 2025 after all.
