The sequels initial plan for the rift
Based on the first game on its own and the 2nd games "twist". Ive aways wondered what the initial plan was for the rift before the whole time travel idea was pitched. The time travel bit didnt have that much payoff, we see Samos hut and thata really it for call backs, which makes the "twist" feel disingenuous. On top of that there are inconsistencies that make the time travel thing seem like an after thought i.g. why Samos doesnt remember the rift from 13 years after going back in time to raise Jak. Kiera building a 2nd rift rider (if the first one was still in tact). I know time travel sequels make things messy, but this felt more like, not lazy but more so wrote into a corner.

The Ottsel Leader Wins! Here is the last vote, Who is Jak and Daxter's MOST COLOURFUL NPC?
I am glad I squeezed a Big Lebowski reference in there. Heck, we got 4 fun movies in there! One thing I am trying to figure out is how these guys fought the Metal Heads. Did they just use the Percursor robots?
NO ONE FOUND THE PLUMBER! So we are wrapping this up with both characters hiding, BUT you can only reveal where one
Game Tally:
- Jak 1: 8
- Jak 2: 5
- Jak 3: 2
- Daxter: 2

How would Jak fare against the Omnidroid from the Incredibles?
For those who haven't seen it, the Incredibles is a 2004 Pixar animated film, which features an killer robot called an Omnidroid. The Omnidroid was designed specifically to KILL superheroes, and had massacred dozens of them prior to the events of the film.
It's chassis has been configured to withstand almost anything including: falls from great heights, direct hits from those with super strength, electric shockwaves, fire, lava, water, ice, heavy winds, super-sonic soundwaves, and radioactive bursts on a NUCLEAR level.
Any time a super killed one of these things, the main villain: Syndrome, would simply redesign it to match that super's strengths and they wouldn't survive it the second time around. The only repeated weaknesses shown in it's design were that it could be tricked into destroying itself, and if you could gain access to the remote that controls it, you can basically do whatever you want to it.
With these stats in mind, does Jak survive the Omnidroid? I think his ability to manipulate time would give him the advantage here, but then again the Omnidroid has bodied some POWERFUL characters. Some I'm curious to know if that would even be enough for Jak.

DIY Jak & Daxter Gaming Heads Statue
The price of this thing has gotten downright insane, so I just said screw it and made my own lol. Not perfect by any means, but at least I can finally have a statue of the dynamic duo for my display case. Also made a making of video: https://youtu.be/JX068khvjaE?is=z1Ms2jxNnAOCcvLT
(Edit: I did intentionally change his expression to a smirk; I just liked it more than the stoic frown)

New updates to my mods for Open Goal: Dark Flight in Jak II (with two wing style options), True Light Jak Flight in Jak 3, and now... Dark Jak can fly in Jak 3 too!
I posted my mods that let Dark Jak fly in Jak 2 and Light Jak fly in Jak 3. I just put out a big update for both, and the biggest thing is Dark Jak can now fly in Jak 3 as well. Video's attached so you can see it all in action.
Dark Jak flight in Jak 3 is completely new. Double jump as Dark Jak and his wings burst out of him. They're messed up, twitchy wings that crackle with lightning, and he flies way heavier and meaner than Light Jak. Harder flaps, faster glide, and he hunches forward like he's hunting something. Tap R1 and he does a dash that hits whatever's in his way, and square does the actual dark bomb when you land.
Light Jak got some love too. He has his own dash now that leaves a trail of glittery stars, and his superhero landing is a big burst of light instead of borrowing the dark bomb effect.
For Jak 2, Dark Flight got the same heavier feel as Dark Jak in Jak 3, plus the dash with rumble. You can NOW switch between the Metal Head wings and the Dark Angel wings with R3, and giant Dark Jak can fly too.
Some fixes for both games:
- if you get hit while flying you flinch in the air and keep flying instead of falling
- no fall damage after flying, no matter how high you are
- fixed a bug where you could drop out of the sky if you stopped flapping at the top of a climb
Controls:
- jump then X again to take off
- X to flap (hold it for extra height)
- hold L1 to glide
- tap R1 to dash, hold R1 to boost
- square for the superhero landing
- R3 switches wings in Jak 2
Unlimited Dark Jak and Unlimited Light Jak are turned on by default so you can fly as long as you want. You can turn them off in the Secrets menu.
How to install:
You need the OpenGOAL launcher with Jak 2 or Jak 3 already installed.
- In the launcher go to Settings > Mods and add this mod source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cjsilva-dev/jak3-true-flight/main/mod-source.json
- Pick Jak 2 or Jak 3, go to Mods, and you'll see Dark Flight or True Flight
- Hit install. It takes a while the first time
If you already have them installed the launcher should just offer you the update.
I've only tested on Steam Deck/Linux so if anyone tries it on Windows or Mac let me know how it goes.
Found a bug? The easiest way to get it fixed is the bug report form, it walks you through what I need:
Jak 2 (Dark Flight): https://github.com/cjsilva-dev/jak2-dark-flight/issues/new/choose
Jak 3 (True Flight): https://github.com/cjsilva-dev/jak3-true-flight/issues/new/choose
Or just drop a comment here if it's something quick.
One known issue-
If you fly too fast in haven city it can mess with areas loading. Haven city was specifically designed to slow you down to allow loading to happen in a smart way. I don’t have a solid fix for that yet, though I’ll keep investigating.

What is your earliest memory of playing Jak and Daxter?
I still vividly remember it. I was nine years old and had to have surgery on my ear (I have hearing loss) for the first of four times. I was really scared but I went through with it. My mom was very proud of me and bought me the Precursor Legacy as a get-well gift because I was already a big Ratchet & Clank fan, having played all the PS2 games for that series. I fell in love with Jak from the very first cutscene, and never looked back.
With my mother having recently passed away, I've rediscovered my love of the series in her memory, and this left me wondering about other people's first experiences with these games.

Native PS2 OpenGOAL Trilogy on Nintendo Switch: Compilation & Packaging Guide (Jak 1, 2, & 3)

**Hi everyone!**
I wanted to share a step-by-step guide on how to get the OpenGOAL trilogy (Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3) running on Nintendo Switch using [fildicio's jak-project-switch](https://github.com/fildicio/jak-project-switch) repository.
Special Note & Shoutout: Big thanks to
**u/Dismal-House-1169**, the author of this Switch port! He is currently working on making the extraction and build process much easier and more streamlined. In the meantime, if you want to test and play the trilogy right now, you can follow this manual build guide to get everything up and running!
**Prerequisites**
\* Windows PC with [**MSYS2**](https://www.msys2.org/) installed.
\* Legitimate PS2 ISO files: jak1.iso, jak2.iso, and jak3.iso.
\* Files from the latest release of jak-project-switch:
\*[jak1.nro, jak2.nro, jak3.nro](https://github.com/fildicio/jak-project-switch/releases/tag/v.0.3.0)
\* [extractor-windows-x86_64.zip](https://github.com/fildicio/jak-project-switch/releases/tag/v.0.3.0) (contains extractor.exe and goalc.exe)
**Step 1: File Preparation**
\* Extract the jak-project-switch-main zip.
\* Extract extractor.exe and goalc.exe directly into the root of your jak-project-switch-main folder.
\* Place your ISO files (jak1.iso, jak2.iso, jak3.iso) into the same project root folder.
**Step 2: Extracting Assets from PS2 ISOs (Run for each game)**
Open PowerShell or CMD in your project directory and run extractor.exe for each ISO file to extract, decompile, and compile the assets for the ARM64 architecture:
\* For Jak 1:
.\\extractor.exe "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch\\jak1.iso" --extract --decompile --compile --game jak1 --instruction-set arm64 --proj-path "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch"
\* For Jak 2:
.\\extractor.exe "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch\\jak2.iso" --extract --decompile --compile --game jak2 --instruction-set arm64 --proj-path "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch"
\* For Jak 3:
.\\extractor.exe "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch\\jak3.iso" --extract --decompile --compile --game jak3 --instruction-set arm64 --proj-path "C:\\path\\to\\jak-project-switch"
**Step 3: Packaging Jak 1 with MSYS2**
\* Open MSYS2 Terminal from your Windows Start Menu.
\* Navigate to your project folder:
cd /c/path/to/jak-project-switch
\* Prepare the build directory and copy jak1.nro as gk.nro:
mkdir -p build-switch/game
cp jak1.nro build-switch/game/gk.nro
\* Package the game for the Switch SD card:
./scripts/package-switch.sh build-switch iso_data/jak1 build-switch/sd-card
\* Copy the generated files from build-switch/sd-card to your Switch SD card (into sdmc:/switch/jak1/).
**Step 4: Packaging Jak II & Jak 3 (Important Fix)**
If you check scripts/build-switch.sh, you will notice this line:
SWITCH_GAME="${SWITCH_GAME:-jak1}"
By default, the runtime bakes in jak1. To compile gk.nro properly for Jak II or Jak 3, pass the SWITCH_GAME environment variable before building:
\* For Jak II: Copy jak2.nro to build-switch/game/gk.nro, then run:
SWITCH_GAME=jak2 ./scripts/build-switch.sh
./scripts/package-switch.sh build-switch iso_data/jak2 build-switch/sd-card
\* For Jak 3: Repeat the same steps using jak3.nro and setting SWITCH_GAME=jak3:
SWITCH_GAME=jak3 ./scripts/build-switch.sh
./scripts/package-switch.sh build-switch iso_data/jak3 build-switch/sd-card
**Step 5: Transfer to SD Card**
Transfer the resulting folders from build-switch/sd-card to your Switch SD card under sdmc:/switch/. You can now launch them via Homebrew Launcher or create NSP Forwarders for your home menu!

The First DUALITY IS HERE! Tic and Andre win their slices, but who is the whitest NPC in the Jak and Daxter NPC?
This feels really nice! If you ever get the chance, check out the rayman games, I really liked Rayman 2 and 3. Give it a looksie, who knows you may like it. I really liked Daxter, and I wish we had a Daxter 2. I think a Daxter prequel of him and Jak getting that vehicle to Sandover Village would have been fun to see, game-wise.
Congratulations, u/Haku_Yowane_IRL for finding the Perkier, but where's the plumber?
Game Tally:
- Jak 1: 8
- Jak 2: 5
- Jak 3: 1
- Daxter: 2

Jak is a racing fan
Jak has been repeatedly shown to love racing, more than fighting or adventuring IMO. In Jak X when his friends are in danger he’s excited to race, in Jak 3 he wagered Daxter for a buggy. I think it’s his favorite hobby.

Would crossing over with Ratchet & Clank have helped Jak and Daxter's sales in the 2000s?
Before I start this, I'm well-aware that sales numbers wouldn't have meant anything to Naughty Dog. Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin were always going to leave, and their replacements were always going in a different direction. Jak would've always likely ended the way it did. However, I do believe the demand for a return and it's general pop culture presence, would be stronger if they could've tapped into the Ratchet and Clank fanbase. At least possibly.
Of the big five: Crash, Spyro, Jak, Ratchet and Sly; Ratchet & Clank fared the best in the post-PS2 era of gaming. The Future series did well in sales, as did the PS4 reboot and Rift Apart. We don't have to talk about the movie lol.
A general rule of thumb is that for a franchise to be considered a good investment, each entry needs to bring in bigger numbers than the one before it. Every Jak game did well enough to earn a Greatest Hits, but numbers don't lie. The sales for Jak went down for each game. Jak II and 3 both made less money than the TPL and all three games made less than the original Ratchet and Clank PS2 games. They sold well enough to keep making games, but the numbers were never out of this world crazy.
Now as a kid, I loved both of these series to death, and I along with many others, desperately wanted to see these two series (along with Sly Cooper) crossover. Now eventually we got our wish twice over, with both PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale and PlayStation Move: Heroes. The latter of which was specifically focused on a campaign involving Jak, Ratchet and Sly going on adventures along with Daxter, Clank and Bentley. Not the best game, but still a cool novelty.
I do think however, they waited too long to cross these characters over. By the 2010s, the kids who grew up with those games had grown up, or at least grown older. Jak and Sly hadn't had new entries in a good while. It just felt too little, too late. Not to mention it was for the PlayStation Move, an accessory that didn't perform very well compared to the Wii or even the Kinect.
However, had they done the crossover between Ratchet and Jak in the 2000s, when the series were both ongoing, and at their peak, I think that would've been different. What do you think? Could Jak's appeal have become wider if an official crossover happened in the 2000s?

If you could only have ONE Jak & Daxter set on your shelf, which would you pick — Jak 1 or Jak II?
Made both versions as custom figures and finally got some photos of them together!
Someone saw my original Jak & Daxter customs here on Reddit and ended up commissioning the Jak II version, so I thought you guys might enjoy seeing them side by side.
I love how different the character designs are between the two games.
So, if you could only keep one set in your collection, which one are you choosing? 👀

Going through Jak 2. God This game is fun! Love the story scenes! Who else loves this?
Love the GTA3-like elements, and you get to fly around in hovercars. It's something that really doesn't get talked about enough. Plus it's got a dark story where you're a really good person, which I really like.

Jak II Open Goal Steam Deck Question
Not sure if this is the place to ask this or if anyone else plays Jak II Open Goal on their steam deck but for some reason mine stopped working and won’t launch. Had no problems playing the game and launching it multiple times. About half way through the game and then all of sudden today it won’t launch. My iso is still good, open goal still says it’s up to date and installed. No idea what’s going on and would love any feedback.

Jak 3- True Flight Mod for Opengoal
I posted my jak II dark flight mod yesterday and this is the same thing in Jak 3. Again, this is my first time modding a game, but having a blast. I'll post to nexus mods after I polish some more.
EDIT: Here's how to try it out!
**How to install (both mods)**
You need the official OpenGOAL launcher with Jak II and/or Jak 3 already installed from your own copy of the game.
Open the OpenGOAL launcher and go to Settings → Mods.
Paste this into the Mod Source box and click Add:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cjsilva-dev/jak3-true-flight/main/mod-source.json
Go to Jak II (for Dark Flight) or Jak 3 (for True Flight), open Features → Mods, pick the mod and click Install. The first install builds the mod from your game files, which takes a while.
Launch the game from the mod's page.
**Controls**
- Jak II, Dark Flight (as Dark Jak): X in the air flaps (hold for extra lift), hold L1 to glide, R1 for turbo, Square for a superhero landing. R3 switches between Metal Head and Dark Angel wings (also in the Secrets menu).
- Jak 3, True Flight (as Light Jak): same controls, minus the wing switch.
**Notes**
- Dark Flight turns on Unlimited Dark Jak in your save by default; you can switch it off in the Secrets menu.
- This is an early release. Bug reports are very welcome, especially from Windows players (I've only tested on Linux / Steam Deck). Source: github.com/cjsilva-dev/jak2-dark-flight and github.com/cjsilva-dev/jak3-true-flight

What kind of Jak easter eggs do you think we'll get in Intergalactic?
Now we all know that Naughty Dog as a company are not what they were when Jak and Daxter was still an ongoing franchise. The direction of the company has changed dramatically since the PS3 era, and the success of both Uncharted and the Last of Us.
Their next game is called Intergalactic: the Heretic Prophet. This game will follow a bounty hunter named Jordan A. Mun, who finds herself stranded on an isolated planet called either Sempiria or Seria, while pursuing a criminal syndicate called the Five Aces. This planet has been cut off from the wider galaxy for 600 years and no one whose ever come here has ever returned.
While I'm not expecting this game to be ANYTHING like the Jak games, especially considering that the game will take place in a world where humanity learned how to travel to distant planets by the 1980s and thus the game has an 80s-aesthetic, I am still excited to see Naughty Dog return to sci-fi after all these years.
It's become a tradition to see Naughty Dog include easter eggs for Jak and Daxter in their other games, with Precursors orbs, game posters, dolls of the characters, etc; appearing in both Uncharted and the Last of Us. I'm very curious to see how they do it here though, considering the game's 80's aesthetic, as well as the fact the game will be going for a distinctly isolated vibe compared to other Naughty Dog games.
What do you think we could see?
