Thieves stole Nvidia-branded trailers expecting valuable tech. They got 40,000 pounds of sand instead.

They are just standard truck trailers, not some AI powered techno wagon.

Okay, so you didn't read the article, right?

The locks on the trailers’ glad hands — the couplings that link the air brakes to the truck — appeared to have been forced off, the company said.

So since you took an interest in the question, do you know the answer? Is the AI in the truck that these were attached to not capable of realizing that the trailer is being stolen and taking measures to prevent the theft?

If so, maybe they should work on that.

Why are we even arguing about this?

I have no idea. All I know for sure is that you think "these are just trailers," whatever that means. Would you like to get more specific about what the hell you're on about?

Ahh I see the problem. You don't know actually know what a truck trailer is. Never mind then.

If you really thought that were the problem, it would be so easy for you to fix, by explaining the missing detail about how a truck trailer works.

Care to own up to your actual opinions?

Oh man. Congratulations, you are one of today's lucky 10,000

The "truck" is a completely separate entity from the "trailer".

The truck has the motor and fuel/batteries, driver or driverless systems, all that stuff. It provides the energy and does all the work to pull the trailer. It's a glorified tractor and the trailer is just an attachment.

The trailer is where the cargo goes, sand in this case. Trailers follow a pretty standard design and can be hauled by any compatible truck. They are not as a general rule tied to a specific truck. The PlusAI trucks could pull their own trailers or any other trailers from any other business.

These trailers that were stolen had nothing to do with "AI" other than holding a dummy load of sand for testing the PlusAI trucks. They were just regular trailers filled with sand that were coupled up to some thieves truck and driven away in the night. The article is very clear they were not even coupled to PlusAI trucks when stolen, the thieves just cut the locks off the trailer couplings so they could haul them away.

And to sum all that up. The trailers were stolen, not the trucks.

...did you really just pretend that I didn't know this so that you could have an excuse to write extra paragraphs? That's some masochistic self-aggrandizement you've got going on.

The article is very clear they were not even coupled to PlusAI trucks when stolen...

Okay, so you literally didn't even read the quote, right?

The locks on the trailers’ glad hands — the couplings that link the air brakes to the truck — appeared to have been forced off, the company said.

It literally says that the couplings linking the trailer to the truck were forced off. How much clearer can it be?

Shit man, you're the confused netizen who asked me to explain what a truck trailer is. I'm not self-aggrandising, though I am apparently arguing with a pigeon.

Anyway. These are the glad hand locks that were cut, this seems to be where you've come all unstuck. They lock the airline coupling on detached trailers to prevent them being attached to an unauthorised truck.

And I'll direct you back to the sentence after the one you keep quoting, the trucks were not with the trailers:

The PlusAI cabs that normally pull the test trailers were parked elsewhere on the property and appeared untouched.

I don't know how to make it clearer than that.

The PlusAI cabs that normally pull the test trailers were parked elsewhere on the property and appeared untouched.

...yeah, obviously they'd have to park the trucks elsewhere, they can't attach the trailers to their own trucks if the first truck is in the way.

That literally does not mean what you want it to mean.

Shit man, you're the confused netizen who asked me to explain what a truck trailer is.

At no point did I ask you to explain what a truck trailer is. I asked you to explain what you were talking about.

In retrospect, I don't know why I thought you'd have anything useful to say, that's on me.

...where you've come all unstuck.

Forget pots and kettles. This is the cast iron pan calling the stainless steel one black.

The trucks were detached. https://engineerfix.com/what-is-a-glad-hand-lock-and-how-does-it-work/

This has been fun. I have to do something productive now. Enjoy your life strangely argumentative internet person.

Enjoy your life strangely argumentative internet person.

You randomly accosted me in a comments section.

So if there is something you think I do not know, then you should explain it. In words.

This has been fun. I have to do something productive now.

Well then I guess I hope you enjoy pecking at strangers productively.

I did explain it. Multiple times, even specifically once I clearly understood the part you got stuck on. I even sent you a link with a whole article about glad hand locks for you to digest.

Look I'll boil it down for you.

Glad hand locks can't be cut off on a coupled trailer because you cannot fully couple a trailer with the locks in place.   The locks are used to immobilise a detached trailer by blocking off the airline coupling. Air is required to release the the brakes.   That whole bit of the article you keep quoting is the bit that says the trailers were uncoupled and parked away from the trucks.

Look I'll boil it down for you.

Oh, okay. That's an actual explanation, thanks.

It's too bad you had to put in all that arrogant self-aggrandizing bullshit before you were willing to treat me like an equal.

Next time you accost a stranger in public, cut to the heart of the matter and actually explain things before you sarcastically copypaste the XKCD whose message you don't believe in, about how it's good to explain things to people who don't know them.

Mate, you asked me to explain what truck trailer is. If that made you feel silly, well that's entirely on you.
