I only play mage or battlegrounds. Since I don’t buy a lot of packs (my money goes to battlegrounds) I usually disenchant the legendaries and epics from other classes to make new decks for mage whenever there’s a new season.
But I have been playing for a really long time, I think I started around the karazhan nights. I really liked frost jaina, highlander mage, casino mage, secret mage the skeleton mage and basically any control deck. I only played a bit of Protoss mage and elemental tempo mage.
I don’t really remember when was the last time mage had a good control deck (besides Protoss as I hear) and with every new expansion I look for the Mage cards and then trying to come up with combinations. Right now I can’t seem to put leylines and quest mage together, if I focus on discover, then I can’t really play the leylines minions to level them up as just leylines is a really straightforward deck with not much agency vs something like imbue rogue.
As I’m not really good at deck building I see a lot of the deck sites and see a lot of the win rates and mage hasn’t been on the top or mid decks for a long time now.
I’m disappointed with how overlooked mage is and am really jealous of rogue decks, as they have so many tools and a rewind imbue.
Is it possible Blizzard has moved on from Mage or they don’t know what to do with it?
Is a viable control mage deck too much to ask? It’s been a long time.
Another year another disappointment. Sorry for the rant, I’m not an explosive hater but I wanted to know how other people look at the decks we have, maybe even other people’s perspective from Mage or other classes and your experience.

Hey all,
A new expansion is upon us again! Like before, I am still not a great deck builder, so I am doing the same thing again - I'll be linking decks from top players and streamers.
If you have a deck that's putting in work or have a decklist that you think it should be shared, leave a comment with the list (or where to find it) and I will add it to the post.
To kick things off, I've found quite a few deck lists to share. These will have a [Pre-release] tag next to them, meaning they have not been battle tested. Once the expansion is live, I'll be editing the post to include the battle tested decks! This post will be updated throughout this week so be sure to check back often.
Hope you guys find it useful!
(The lists are sorted by class, then latest)
Edit 7: Now that the expansion has been out a week, this will be the last update! There should now be enough data for sites like HSReplay and VS to provide a better and more accurate analysis of the meta and popular deck lists. If you want specific lists from top players streamers/players, you can still find them on Toast's site. See you all next expansion!
Edit 6: Boomsday has now been out officially for a week! Adding lists still!
Edit 5: Day 6! Still adding lists!
Edit 5: Day 5! Sorry for the delay, had to spend time with the family. Lots of hunters are popping up!
Edit 4: Day 4! Combo decks are getting farmed left and right. Join the fun!
Edit 3: We are now in day three. Will be adding lists as usual. Need more hunters!
Edit 2: We are now in day two! Will be adding more deck lists throughout the day!
Edit: Removed all theory-crafting and pre-release decks! If you want to view them still, they're now stored here.
Hope you guys enjoy the lists. Feel free to let me know any other cool lists that I might have missed!

Cards like Magtheridon, The Jailer, Don Han’Cho and Kil’jaeden are not included because they are leaders of territories/organizations instead of racial leaders
Recommended skin: Magni Bronzebeard (only warrior hero who is a racial leader whose race is not represented in the deck)

I'm a wild player mainly but lately enjoyed playing Rafaam Warlock bc I had to play standard for the Violet hold quest. Deck works quite well. Thoughts and improvements?

I am a lover of control style decks, especially control warrior. I love my slow games and games that require my brain to work instead of those turn 1 flood the board win the game kind of decks. But recently, with the rise of mechathun, I can no longer enjoy my long games. Druids literally draw their entire deck by turn 8 or 9 , and then just win from that. I thought mechathun was supposed to be that last resort card that can turn the tables when the game lasts till fatigue, but it turns out druids can draw their entire decks AND gain shit ton of armour. All in all, druids are broken and I think it made mechathun a really boring card imo

So zerg has gotten you down? Shamans and warriors Nuking you to Oblivion? A bad day at work? Or are you perhaps a retired insurance CEO?
Well boy, do i have the deck for you!
In a true priest manner this deck doesnt really have a win condition, or rather, its win condition is to suck the fun out of the game for your opponent, until they lose their will to win and to live.
The motto of the deck is "Deny, defend, depose"
You use your silence, your mind control, your Aman Thul, your grifter, your dirty rat, your bob, your repackage to Deny them their gameplan and their win condition.
You Defend yourself with your Arkonite Defense Crystals, your boardclears, bob, griftah, etc.
You Depose your opponent by gradually reducing their will to live, turn by turn.
My last game i managed to Deny the warrior a single Starship until turn 10. I followed that with a Shudderblock into dirty rat. Then i repackaged the turn after mini Shudderblock into benevolent banker and stole his package, his snapshot and his new heights.
It took him almost half a minute of grasping how truly fucked he was, and he conceded.
Deck list in comments.

Yo Reddit, I'm an ex pro Gwent player and a long time HS player too, I do not play HS competitively but I still think I'm a fairly decent player, especially when it comes to Control. So I wanted to share my Rafaam deck that took me pretty quickly to legend. I don't have stats since I don't use decktrackers but I think my overall winrate was quite good.
I will not write a full on guide here but just a few quick notes
Yeah that's it, that ended up already longer than I was planning. Just let me know if you have questions I'll try to answer
Edit: BONUS ULTRA SECRET MIRROR WINCON!
Opp plays Tiny Rafaam (or Dryad) -> Bob -> Add minion to your hand (usually puts them at 10 cards in hand with the coins) -> Kill Tiny Rafaam -> Guaranteed mill a Rafaam -> Profit

Basically title, got legend with this absolute monster of a lurker hunter deck (no Tolvir included), deck just absolutely grinds most slow tempo decks and can out-aggro No hand Hunter as well.
Definitely give it a try if you have those shiny legendaries and the epic 8 damage face 8/8 man.

How long are we going to wait to see “stronger class moments” and “more noticeable meta shifts”?
And what about when they release another 4 class decks, are we going to forget about the old ones that still aren’t balanced?
Really salty about the release and Leyline mage

Heres a modified homebrew(ish) deck i climbed to legend with. As a pure control freak, I realized control does not have much place in 2026 Standard HS. You either go out of steam or die before you can control the game, but with this deck you can just freeze big boards, freeze big minions, freeze and kill big minions, all the while going around the "control tax" with the endless value of Millhouse
With only 6 minions( 3 of them being tutors for Millhouse), you always always play millhouse on 5 ( on 4 if you have coin!)
With Blizzard small boards are cleared while big minions are left open for Bitter End.
With relic of Kings, you have many board clear options: Chow down, typhoon, twisting nether. Stor of amara heals you to 40! (Aggro tripwire hunters concede immediately!)
Alter time has many polymorph spells to get rid of minions
All the while your board is filled with an endless supply of free stats!
