Five months ago, I posted my thoughts on Gravity Rush for the PS Vita to this subreddit after reaching Chapter 6. Since then, I’ve finished the main game and am currently working through the DLC missions.
In my opinion, the game could have been a little better, but that doesn't make it a bad game, in fact, I think is a pretty damn good game. Gravity Rush is one of those titles with a merely average story (I’ve heard the story in Gravity Rush 2 is better), yet it features gameplay mechanics that were quite innovative for its time and an art style I personally really enjoy (as a non-anime person).
The characters are genuinely charismatic (except for the father and the kid whose house got destroyed—and not even because of Kat; God, I hate them, man), but Raven remains my favorite. I actually really liked getting brief glimpses into her past throughout the game; it’s fascinating and makes me like the character even more.
To be honest, the ending could have been a bit better; it left me with a bittersweet feeling because it was so underwhelming, in my view. Still, the challenge was definitely there—especially considering I played it on a PS Vita rather than a PS4 or PS5.
The game's graphics are quite good, aside from the fact that it runs at a lower resolution than the PS Vita supports. There were a few moments of frame rate stutter, but overall, it was a great gaming experience. I really like the atmosphere of each part of Hekseville, and I love how lively the game feels.
Personally, the controls were my favorite part of the game. Being able to aim at enemies—or at any other direction Kat could fly—using the PS Vita's Sixaxis gyroscope was quite entertaining and intuitive.
I personally liked the game, and I would def recommend it to anyone who has a PS Vita and/or wants to start playing these games.
