Yeah his comments don’t seem to have anything to do with becoming unstoppable, it’s that all RPGs revolve around huge, world ending events.

Then there's RPGs where you effectively cause the huge, world-ending events, which otherwise would've been avoided if your character just stayed home (Tales of Symphonia)

Should I play that RPG?

To be fair, I don't think this is limited to just RPGs. It feels like most games have some cataclysmic threat hanging overhead, not to mention the over-saturation of that storyline in other media like movies.

There's a desire to demonstrate that the stakes have been raised, and bad writers don't seem to trust their audience to determine "They're the bad guys" without having the threat be world-ending in scale.

Sometimes it's nice to have a low-stakes adventure. Low-stakes might be the wrong word considering that personal vendettas and chasing your dreams can have a large importance to the core cast of characters, but not every story needs to involve the threat of extinction.
