Yeah, so if you read the article it's not nearly as negative as the headline implies (shocking) nor are the quoted bits that bad.

"I play a lot of RPGs, it's a genre I really like," he said. "I was really and I still am bored and tired of all the RPGs when you are this chosen one, when you have this grand task of saving the universe .. The games that are these really straightforward power fantasies. It's not that I think it's somehow wrong in principle. There is nothing bad about a good power fantasy. It's just, it's so repetitive."

I know we all read the article and there's no reason to point this out, but still. Also

everybody's going to think that I am hating on Expedition 33 right now, but that's definitely not the case.

That last bit is funny, because there's a very explicitly narrative reason behind why one of the characters could be considered a "chosen one." If that character wasn't the Chosen one, the entire narrative would be completely different. It'd be a different game. Which is different from other RPGs where you quite literally change the character based on how you make your character look or their backstory or class.

The game couldn't happen at all if that character wasn't the chosen one, because Expedition 33 completely and utterly fails without Alicia. The absolute furthest they get is Act 1, at which point Painted Renoir kills all of them. And even with her, they still lose. The people of Lumiere are explicitly powerless against Renoir, who can just pick up the Canvas and throw it on a pyre. It's the reason both endings are a tragedy.

The evidence of what he's saying is obvious to me from the fact that the Kingdom Come Deliverance games feel unique. It feels like a fresh take on an RPG.

You can make comparisons to games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 and whatnot, and there are lots of similarity, but for some reason KCD feels refreshingly different. It doesn't feel like a repeat of a game experience I've already had.
