Aside from League and Dota 2 (which I've tried, played, loved, and hated), what other MOBAs are worth playing?
I've looked at Eternal Return which I find interesting, HOTS and SMITE which don't tickle my fancy, and Deadlock not until I've reached a self-proclaimed good rank in both League and Dota 2

First of all, we congratulate Valheim for its much-deserved universal acclaim! Could someone explain the gameplay for me in simple terms? It is like BG3 or Elden Ring?

Is there some active thread discussions about Sony and their stepping away from physical discs?

I think Sony has been instructed to specifically not react to any discussions, as they seem to push this thing forcefully.

I plan on getting some games from the Nintendo sale. Which Mario party is better and which Metroid games are must haves?

All of the recent Mario Party titles are disappointing and gimmicky. The biggest problems are that the default game-mode (how it is designed to play) is only 10 rounds which is barely enough time for there to really be stakes or counter-plays to be made. The other issue, is that the past 2 games have had "minions" (forget what they call them) where different NPCs with special abilities spawn on the map periodically, and when someone passes one a minigame event starts where the winner is rewarded with a companion. Those companions fundamentally make the game unfair, especially on 10 round game modes, because each time that player takes a turn for 3-4 turns the companion also takes a turn. This can mean rolling twice, getting double coins, or other bonuses for that player. This then makes the experience less fun for anyone who doesn't get the companion. On top of that, there are some really shit maps and a lot of the minigames are a mixture of old and new games but majority of them are not great curations. They could have selected better minigames to return, but instead half of them are really bad. IF you are going to get a new Mario Party, Super Mario Jamboree is the better one. Trust me, I played both and my friend group still returns to Mario Party 2/3 on emulator time to time. Nothing has really scratched the itch like those ones.
Metroid Prime Remaster is great, I'd go for this one probably, but also reminds you how much back-tracking there is in Metroid titles. Metroid 4 is kind of a dud, but still worth it for some people. Metroid Dread is the best recent effort but it also has a whole lot of out-dated bullshit peppered into an otherwise great game. Obtuse storytelling, a weird world, some out-dated mechanics. Still the best Metroid aside from the remaster of Prime 2. My general consensus is that the Metroid genre has been out-played by most recent Metroidvania games (Silksong, Hollow Knight, Ori series, Nine Sols, etc etc) and it's really starting to show its age because the game design is a lot more copy/paste compared to these other titles. It doesn't really stand up to the greatest metroidvanias anymore, which are all now titles other than Metroid.

When it comes to genres such as 2d platforms, metroidvanias, shoot em ups and beat em ups, do you prefer the old games from the 80s-90s, or more recent titles?

More recent indie titles have reinvigorated the genre while also doing more creative / risky things. There are some absolutely incredible recent Metroidvanias, which by-far surpass old Metroid or Castlevania titles. It's still fun to return to those old ones time to time, but they feel old compared to the new ones.

I bought Mario kart 8 deluxe digitally, but I don’t have a switch 2 at the moment. Will the code expire if I don’t use it right now, I’ll be getting one in like 3 or 2 months from now

What do you do when you get into a gaming funk and no new game you play feels fun and you just end up going back to games you played 10 years ago?

Have you tried taking a break simply? Focusing on another hobby? Another option is to go for games that are outside of your "comfort zone". Game that you wouldn't usually play that will work like "palate cleansers". Something really different to relight the spark.

You try something that is out of your comfort zone or more creatively risky. Play a lot of AAA mega-size games? Play some bite size indies. Play a ton of open-world sprawling games? Play something more tight and focused. Sick of shooters? Try some puzzle games. Etc. Boredom / funk is usually because you're stagnating and playing the same game over and over but reskinned. Shake things up. Your favorite game ever may be hidden out there, but you'd never know it unless you're open to exploring and challenging your interests and giving new things a try.

I’m in this funk right now too. Because of this I’m in the process of turning an old iMac into an emulation machine. I have another project of putting my Xbox 360 inside an even older iMac and turn it into an all in one console. But I don’t have the tools to do that. Getting into a gaming funk can turn into creativity if you allow it. I have a gaming pc and an Xbox One Series X. I have a catalog on my Xbox alone of somewhere around 1300 games. (Adding games to my wishlist is how this happened) I still can’t find something I want to play. We don’t need to talk about my Steam catalog. This isn’t bragging, it’s more of me just saying I totally get the “gaming funk”.

Honestly that feeling is fine. Being an individual with responsibility when it come to game time we don't want to risk playing something that might "waste" our time if it not fun. So we always goes back to our own familiar and comfortable game.
In 2025 I got two new games Manor Lords (replace Banished) and Arc Raiders because the server slam was so fun. This year I got First Light because it similar to Hitman. I believe we will choose to play game that we familiar because we can pick it up immediately and have fun with it.
Another thing is demo is also making a comeback as it help breach this mentally.

so i finally installed gta5 from epic.
and uninstalled it before ever playing.
it needs the epic launcher (or steam), the rockstar launcher, rockstar social club (which killed my firefox session, too. wtf), and the battleye rootkit.
what the hell? the game was free and i can't even justify all this. WHY? how is this normal? why do gamers put up with this crap? 2 launchers, a social club, and a rootkit?
