Hey, uh, do we still hate Subnautica 2? A while back, I heard the devs did something shitty, but now I'm seeing a lot of people playing it.

Big publisher lost a stupid lawsuit and can’t prevent the game from being good like they wanted to. Now the more copies they sell the more of a bonus the devs get and the devs are fully in control.
It looks to me like it’s going to be an excellent game. I have played around 15-20 hours. So far it feels like they really get what made the first one so good.
I have some minor qualms about progression, ran into a few small glitches that were a little annoying and found some logs that weren’t voice acted yet so I am probably just going to wait to play more, but it feels excellent to play, looks really good and the base building is much much improved.

I need a game that reminds me of those old Facebook point and click games, but to play with my gf which has zero experience in gaming nor interest actually, but is willing to play a quality game as such.
So:
- point and click type-of
- mistery
- detective
- no WASD or complex mechanics if possible
- no indie style (old classic 2d) or weird POVs
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I never had facebook so i may be going in the entirely wrong direction with this but perhaps the older Frogware games? “Quality” is perhaps in question here depending on how important graphics are to her (older games means pixelated af on new PCs) but they check the other boxes. The first Dracula: Origin is good and mystery adjacent, the second one Dracula: Love Kills is a hidden objects game (which weirdly i think they never made one of again?). The Sherlock Holmes games are lovely too, the newer ones are complex mechanically but the earlier ones are point and click. Do skip silver earring, that one cannot be progressed in at a certain point because of a gameplay hindering graphics glitch.
Frogwares is a bit hit or miss sometimes but they have a special place in my gaming heartTo move onto a recommendation with less warnings, the Duck Detective games have modern graphics (still 2D but not pixelated) and I personally find them quite funny, which may however not be the vibe you are going for. Despite their humor I think the games build the mystery nicely and aren’t overly predictable while also not spiraling into absurdity which i appreciated. They are like 2-3 hours, and I think can be played as point and click entirely (you can walk around ASWD style which i personally did but i think you can also just click). The vibe is less classic but I still wanted to mention them
There is also Lord Winklebottom Investigates which I am listing purely because it is the first thing that came to my mind after Frogwares. It is a humorous murder mystery with a more classic style, however i personally found it rather unfunny and the story was very frustrating to me, not a nice experience if you wish to actually investigate and figure things out as the player

Usually games with good story can help. Not saying you specifically, but I have a lot of friends who talk about how, "gaming is dead" then I look at their library and it's just FIFA, apex and rocket league. Some games I'd recommend who's stories are great are Omori, Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch. If you are looking for something more challenging there's also Expedition 33 and Baldurs Gate.

There's a vastly different library of games between PS and Nintendo. You'd need to look through the eshop and see if there are enough games to justify the price of the console for you. That said, Nintendo has a lot of platformers in the same vein as Astro Boy. Look up Super Mario Odyssey, Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Donkey Kong Country.

What game has had the single biggest impact on you?

Grand Theft Auto V. I've only played Nintendo games until I saw my friend playing GTA, and the level of freedom and the size of map in it was jaw dropping.

Metal Gear Solid was when I realised how impactful games could be as a medium for storytelling.

Lore channel recommendations?

Lady of Lore. She has a nice voice and goes through a variety of games.

If you are cursed to play ONE game ONLY for the rest of your life, what game would it be?

u/kinokomushroom May 17 '26
Outer Wilds. Every time I finish the game, I just bonk my head in the right spot and start it fresh again.

Could anyone suggest good colony sim games? I already have a couple thousand hours of Rimworld, it's a really good game, but recently it just doesn't quite scratch the itch of building an Imperium of Man and spreading the word of the emperor to heretics. Are there any games that have the micro-management of Rimworld and the macro-management of Stellaris? Something like spore, but dark and gritty. Thank you!

Iits not realy similiar to the one you mentioned but i still want to reccomend Graveyard Keeper. A real (for me) fun game with some management and an funny Story.
