”Like all of the company's machines, you'll also have to use the Cricut Design Space software on your phone or computer to use either…”

I'll never buy one again after I moved to Linux. Cant use the older unit anymore because no software available and encrypted. Also the mandatory windows software is crap.

Design Space is also horrendously unintuitive to use - I consider myself above average when it comes to learning new software, but my wife’s got a Cricut and was out of town when I needed to make some simple labels, and I was appalled at how bad it is.

Took me a good hour to figure out how to make simple circles with text in them and plot the cutting. Never mind how buggy/laggy it was. The machine is great, but screw Design Space.

Each ink cartridge is designed to last as long as the pack of sticker paper you bought with it. Have to admit, that's an innovative take on generating e-waste.

This is just a worse version of a regular cricut. If it was more consumer-friendly with bottle-based ink refills, you could make the argument that it would be nice for small businesses and people who *really* love stickers, but there's no way this thing is worth the cost of ownership.

I am guessing it is like the PixCut S1, which has been around for a few years and does the same thing. The "ink" cartridge is a roll of film because it is a dye sublimation printer. It takes multiple passes and goes through the colors, plus a protective layer. Like many other small form factor photo printers.

That makes sense.
