Our (presumed) girl finally introduced us to her boyfriend! I shrieked in joy at this guest appearance!

We believe left is male, and right is female, but still unsure. This pic was taken last month, and they live under our deck :)

This guy is on the shore where it will fully freeze. Shouldn’t he be in a deeper part of the lake?

Leopard Frog My first frog sighting after two plus years of creating habitat !!!

They live in my garden and are the first frog live seen. I love them. I’ve spent two plus years trying to make my suburban yard a place frogs can call home. I’m so glad they came to live with me. I’m in the Ozarks and I believe this is a southern leopard frog.

Leopard Frog Help needed: Leopard frog safe wintering in bucket (photos not NSFW)? NSFW

Hi, all. First off, I've set the post to NSFW because it was suggested; the photos posted aren't NSFW.

I live in Ontario, Canada. Over the summer, we've had a male (I think) leopard frog (I think) move into our patio, who likes to hang out in our garden planters. We figured he'd move on once it got colder, but the other day we've noticed he's nestled into one of the planters (white bucket in second photo).

I know some frogs can freeze over in the winter and will do this, but from what I've read, leopard frogs are not among them. From what I gather, they need to be in a pond during the winter. That said, internet searches aren't something I want to rely on anymore, with Leo's life on the line. If he's doing the right thing, we don't want to move him and mess that up. So I'd love to get some advice from you fine folks who're in the know.

Some observations and facts:

  • Currently, he's buried up to his shoulders in the soil (see first photo), and he's been there for at least two days. Typically, he'd sit on the surface, so we figure he's preparing for winter.
  • Because he's half-buried, we can't really tell if he's breathing or not. We've also noticed some of the chillier mornings in the past weeks that it's been tough to tell anyway since he's lethargic from the cold.
  • The last week or so, it's been chilly at night. We've had a few frost warnings.
  • The bucket will freeze solid, and several feet of snow will pile over it over the winter.
  • We don't have the budget to set up a tank or other indoor solution - if we move him, it'd have to be somewhere outdoors.
  • The nearest water to us is a running creek nearby; there's a park with a pond about 1km away.
  • Ideally, we'd like to keep him close if possible, and we'd love him to stick around next year. That said, his survival is more important to us.

That's all I can think of for now. We'd love any advice or suggestions you resident herpetology experts can provide. Thanks in advance!

Obviously I had to use Google Lens, so PLEASE correct me if I'm incorrect.

Just saw this guy take a huge leap when I walked to my back porch, I haven't seen a large frogs in a LONG time, mostly Toads. Pretty sweet looking, didn't like me close, he scared the shit out of me when I walked back out of the house! 🤣

Leopard Frog I made a friend

This lovely lady showed up in my plant nursery tower in the garage near the start of May, and since then has been coming and going as she pleases. Earlier this week, I set up this "frog hotel" and she's seemingly been super happy since then.

Dechlorinated water, baked driftwood to climb and hide, duckweed (which is what I was using this tub for originally) aquarium soil and a water heater set to 20c. Pretty good vacation spot for a wild animal.

Ontario, Canada.

Leopard Frog Relocating from buckets in Southern Minnesota?

Made some large buckets of water and weeds and leaves to put mosquito dunks in the back end of our backyard. Now I have at least 6 frogs I could see, I think northern green frogs for the most part and one leopard.
The buckets aren’t buried or anything - I was planning on emptying them before temps go down. But now, what do I do? I read only wood frogs survive freezing temps?
No tadpoles so far, it’s just buckets of water with no aeration system or anything… the next lakes are 0.2 miles away.
Do I move them to said lakes come October? September? Do I let them be?

Also I love having them especially since our frog population is declining so much in my area - I used to see frogs everywhere and now I rarely do - so based on that experience I think I’ll try for a more permanent setup next year.
Ty!

Leopard Frog Are frogs social?

4 frogs were stuck in our basement window wells. We realised today and added a slant surface so they could climb it and escape. There were 4 of them in that well thing and we noticed that when one frog reached the top, it didn’t just jumped out and escape. Instead, they all waited until the 4th one was out as well. Once all 4 had reached the top, only then they left slowly one after another.
I had heard frogs have no social connections but this almost felt like a group escape and them helping each other / waiting for each other.
Picture showing 3 of them ‘waiting’ for the 4th.

He got mixed in with a shipment of goldfish at my job. So I’ve been raising him for the last month now, and he’s been doing so well! Once he fully absorbs his tail what would be the most appropriate food for him, and at what stage would I be able to release him?

Leopard Frog Why is my frogs water cloudy brown?

Post image

Hello everyone, yesterday my leopard frogs water was this same color, i cleaned it out with soap and water then put fresh dechlorined water. Today it is the same color again, what is this? And is this normal?

There was also no waste im the bowl when I cleaned it. The dirt in the tank typically does not make the water brown, the water would always be clear even with dirt in it.
