Region Name Looking to break into logging (AB/BC)
Working out a deal on this 1975 Hayes HD 267”. Want to get into logging but all my experience is oilfield. Who’s hiring owner ops in Western Canada with little to no logging experience?

Multiple logging companies have gone under in northern BC in the last couple of years. Oil and mining are the future here. You’ll have a hard time finding contracts in forestry

Same here in the Southeast US. Mill closures, declining wood prices, and skyrocketing fuel prices have driven many out.
Good luck OP 🫡 you’re gonna need it.

What a beautiful truck. Spent more hours than I want to admit to in one of those. King of the off road. Power? Transmissions? I suspect that there would be little use for a truck of this size unless you want to go to the island. Weigh is a huge factor since most of the logs travel on at least some pavement to get to the mill. Investigate the Revelstoke BC area, they still have big logs there and perhaps with conventional rigging you might find work.

If you wanna get into the bush come too NZ, our forestry sector is going gangbusters and will only get bigger as time goes on.

That truck is the first big problem, I dont know of any logging transport thats not in the red or barely getting by. Its just a necessary evil

Because of the tariffs, this past year only 50% of the usual was cut. From the planting side prices have been on the decline for a few years now. I’d have to think the logging trucks also feel this.
