/r/ForeignMovies is under new moderation.
The sidebar has been reworked and tidied up, dead links have been removed and lots of new links added. [note: the sidebar currently works better under old reddit than under new reddit]
A large number of film-related links that have no immediate connection to the topic of this subreddit have been moved to the new WIKI-list.
There will be some changes to the way this subreddit is being moderated, but not really. By that I mean that these are all things that are already part and parcel of this subreddit, but that will be more strictly enforced in the not-too-distant future:
No links to illegal streaming/download sites, and no links to pirated copies of films on video platforms like Youtube. [I know that a vast number of international films are hard to find legally, but anyone recommending a film should realise that people reading the recommendation and caring enough about the film can actually look for it on their own. If people are too lazy to do so, they have probably not been interested enough in the first place.] If a film happens to be in the public domain that’s fine, but your post needs to contain an openly accessible, reliable source that confirms that the film is in the public domain.
No English-language films. [Please take a look at the separate entry I made regarding justifiable exceptions to that rule.]
Naturally, pornography is banned.
Please keep an eye on the quality of the content. While there is absolutley no need to keep this subreddit strictly arthouse, and while many genres are worthy of discussion, you should consider that maybe not every foreign sea-monster B-movie from the 1960s is worth talking about here. There are special subreddits for that sort of thing.

Once again, I need to repeat what I wrote a year or so ago:
"Reddit seems to have become more aggressive in recent weeks when it comes to automatically deleting posts/comments."
Often, I cannot even remotely see the reason why this happens. So if anyone is missing one of their posts or comments, please drop me a line. If I can find the time, I'll go on a hunt and try to find it.

I think it was Japanese. They get all the parents of the different kids together in a room and they get to take turns torturing them in the other room with weapon of choice.

🎬 Weekend Watch: Making Peace
This week, I put together three short films that ended up sharing something I didn't initially expect.
They’re all about people going through difficult moments: a dream that didn't work out, a life that feels confining, or a situation that could have ended much worse.
But none of these films is really about staying in that moment.
They're about finding a way to make peace with what happened and keep going.
🎬 Disco Obu — Anand Kishore
🏆 Winner: Special Jury Mention Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2017
Official Selection Palm Springs International ShortFest 2017
A former child actor who once had a chance at the life he dreamed of now drives an auto-rickshaw.
This is my favorite of the three.
What stayed with me is how quietly the film deals with letting go.
🌾 The Field — Sandhya Suri
🏆 Winner: Best Short Film Toronto International Film Festival 2018
Official Selection Sundance Film Festival 2019
There's something beautiful and heartbreaking about how temporary that happiness feels.
The harvest is coming, and so is the end of their little world.
🏨 The Criminals — Serhat Karaaslan
🏆 Winner: Special Jury Award for Screenwriting Sundance Film Festival 2021
Shortlisted: Best Live-Action Short Film Academy Awards 2022
What I loved most is what happens after they finally get out.
Three films. Three very different stories. One feeling.
If you have about an hour this weekend, give these three a try.
3 films · 64 minutes · One anthology
🎬 Watch the full collection on Ray35:
I'd love to know which one stays with you the longest.🎬

Counterfeit Kunkoo by Reema Sengupta is the kind of film that takes you somewhere new for the cheapest ticket there is. In 15 minutes, you're inside another part of the world, seeing the lives, challenges and traditions people are tied to. There's very little dialogue, but it says so much.
Her story. Her way.

Hey everyone! :)
A few of us started The Third Place, a Discord community for people who enjoy films, books, creative expression, and simply having somewhere to hang out and talk.
Cinema is one of the main things at the heart of TTP, and we especially enjoy discovering films from different countries, cultures, and filmmaking traditions. But we're not a film-only server – literature, writing, art, photography, music, and everyday conversation all have a place here too.
We're now around 200 members, and we're still pretty new and figuring things out as we go. Activity is still inconsistent– there are times when conversations are happening and other times when things get pretty quiet, especially since our members are spread across different time zones.
A few things we're hoping to build:
We're still shaping the community, so if you're looking for a huge, constantly-active film server, this probably isn't that right now. 😅 But if you'd enjoy joining while we're still figuring things out – and maybe helping create some of the conversations and VC culture yourself, we'd love to have you.
If this sounds like your kind of space, feel free to DM me and I'll send you an invite. :)

A new Palestinian documentary is receiving a free virtual pre-release screening today through Palestine Museum US.
Directed by Palestinian journalist and visual storyteller Basim Hasiba, The Last Front - Palestinian Culture examines the relationship between Palestinian cultural institutions and international funding, particularly what happens when financial support arrives with political and security-related conditions attached.
Through testimony from people working within Palestinian cultural organisations, the film asks how those conditions can affect programming, staff, participation and ultimately the independence of cultural work itself: who can be included, what can be funded and what can be said.
Hasiba developed the film through his work as an independent journalist interested in documentary filmmaking and Palestinian cultural and social life. The project was produced through the Palestine Journalism Hub’s independent journalism initiative.
The free online screening begins today, Saturday 26 September, at 17:00 UK / 12:00 EDT / 19:00 Palestine. The film is listed as 1 hour 36 minutes and subtitled in English.
