Identifying and Authenticating Your Fender Guitar

Few guitar brands are as iconic and revered as Fender. For collectors, enthusiasts, and musicians alike, one of the key elements in understanding and appreciating a Fender guitar is knowing its authenticity, model, and age. Fortunately, there are a lot of good resources to assist you in that endeavor, albeit with some caveats.

Official Fender Serial Number Lookup: An Authoritative Resource?

Fender's official serial number lookup tool (https://serialnumberlookup.fender.com/lookup/) is the primary reference point for deciphering the origins of a Fender guitar. However, it's essential to approach this resource with a critical eye. While it offers valuable insights, there are notable gaps in the records, and discrepancies may arise. Guitars with known provenance occasionally deviate from the database, listing differences in paint and components. Nonetheless, it remains a fundamental starting point for identifying Fender instruments.

Supplementary Serial Number Model Information

In addition to Fender's official resource, several other reliable sources offer further insights into decoding serial numbers and understanding Fender guitar models.

Websites like Superior Music (https://www.superiormusic.com/page201.htm),

Strat Central (https://www.strat-central.com/external/datingfender.htm),

True Vintage Guitar (https://truevintageguitar.com/blogs/tvg-blog/fender-serial-numbers),

Reverb (https://reverb.com/news/how-to-date-a-fender),

and Andy Baxter Bass (https://www.andybaxterbass.com/blogs/news/fender-serial-number-guide) provide valuable guides and articles on the subject. These resources offer a comprehensive overview, filling in the gaps left by Fender's official database.

Exploring Stratocaster and Telecaster Models and Specifications

For those specifically interested in Fender Stratocasters, resources like Fuzzfaced (https://www.fuzzfaced.net/fender-stratocaster-models.html) offer detailed examinations of various models and their specifications. From vintage classics to modern iterations, understanding the evolution of the Stratocaster can deepen one's appreciation for these iconic guitars.

Likewise, Fender Telecasters have undergone significant evolution over the years. Fuzzfaced's exploration of Telecaster parts (https://www.fuzzfaced.net/telecaster-parts.html) sheds light on the changes in design and construction that have shaped this beloved instrument.

Original Fender Stratocaster Wiring Diagrams

For those interested in the technical aspects of Fender guitars, original wiring diagrams provide invaluable insight into their inner workings and can help to provide those final critical details in authenticating or dating your guitar.

Websites like Guitar Electronics (https://guitarelectronics.com/original-fender-stratocaster-wiring-diagrams/) show the various wiring schemes and components used in Fender Stratocasters over time.

I’m interested in swapping out my bridge humbucker for a bridge single-coil pickup on my 2023 MiM Tele. Can anyone confirm if a Tele bridge plate will fully cover up the humbucker cavity?

Obviously, we won't know until they are officially released, but do you think there will be a price increase or will they stay the same?

What’s up everyone, just wanted to show off my latest finished project, this started as a Vintera III Early 70’s Jazz Bass in candy apple red, I’ve basically turned it into my own 1966 Jazz bass in Sherwood Green. Did all the work myself, it was a very fun project and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

List of mods:
- Refin (Duplicolor Deep Jewel Green + Spraymax 2k clear)
- Fender Pure Vintage ‘66 Jazz Bass Pickups (also routed body for 60’s pickup spacing)
- Gotoh Lollipop-Style Tuners
- Bridge and pickup covers (w/ foam mute under bridge cover)
- Fender tort pickguard
- Fender 1966-style headstock decals
- AVII Jazz Bass Case (from Stratosphere on eBay)

General Discussion is it only me or the mex stratocaster has reached the professional ii sound level?

Recently ive heard two stratocasters: a mexican player ii and a professional ii american, honestly i didnt find any difference on sound, and i kinda wanted to buy a guitar (a used player strato) to replace my good old squier sonic, are there any other differences beetween them? (Aside from the pickup splitting push-push thing, the knobs that are stiffier to move, the body neck-connection block that is smoothed out that are imo small things that can be done later on the guitar by modifying it.)

New Guitar Day! Birth year Strat

1988 American Deluxe Standard Strat that was being build in Corona the month I was being born on the otherside of the world.

She's a bit scuffed and worn (as am i) pickguard has been changed, knobs arent orginal, lace sensors have been painted, finish on the neck is worn through in places, but she plays really well and it feels special to take her out of the case.

So stoked!

New Guitar Day! Got my first offset, Vintera III Jazzmaster. ALMOST went with the Jag but I strum right where the pickup switches are and I just know I’d be losing my mind hitting them by accident lol the tone on this thing is incredible and exactly what I’ve been chasing with my Strat for years, so no regrets

I was gifted this strat and the first 2 switch positions work perfectly fine(the positions that involve the bridge pickup). Every other position almost doesn’t work. The sound is very faint and is just not loud enough. In this video I show the difference in sounds. Please does someone know how to fix this?

Fender Ephemera Ultra Lux Telecaster

Wow, I finally got to try one in person at GC today. It was a treat on the Princeton Reverb too. I'm visiting my Mom and she came with me while I was trying some small amps for travel, which I really didn't care for. They had it for $2600, it was the white one, and my Mom bei g far to generous offered to buy it. If it had been Butterscotch Blonde I might have let her, but realistically I'm still learning and my Squiers are just fine. Some day.

General Discussion New American Professionals On the Way?

I’ve been playing around with budget strats over the last year, modding them, learning how to do setups etc. I’ve been enjoying the experience but just want to buy a proper strat.

Seems american pro ii are hard to locate. Not many on Fenders website (except the classic) and even sweetwater is pretty bare.

Seems like there is something new coming? I can’t seem to find any info about it though.

Thanks!

General Discussion PRS SE Silver Sky vs. Fender Player II Stratocaster – Which one to choose?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently stuck choosing between a PRS SE Silver Sky and a Fender Player II Stratocaster, and I’d love to get some input from people who have played or owned either (or both!).

Here is a bit of context on what I'm looking for and how I play:

  • Sound & Style: I'm looking for that classic Stratocaster tone, mainly for blues/rock and clean to crunch dynamics. I love SRV and it's sound.
  • Rig: I mostly play through digital plugins/amp sims (Neural DSP, etc.) using an audio interface.
  • Neck & Playability: I know the SE Silver Sky has a slightly rounder, vintage-style 8.5" radius neck, while the Player II comes with a Modern C profile, 9.5" radius, and rolled fretboard edges.
  • Hardware: The PRS has a decked 2-point tremolo out of the box, whereas the Player II comes floating.

For those who have hands-on experience with both:

  1. How do the necks compare in terms of comfort during long playing sessions?
  2. How do you feel about the pickups when running into digital rigs/plugins? (Do the 635JM S pickups handle software processing better/differently than the Alnico V single-coils on the Fender?)
  3. Are there any build quality or QC details I should watch out for on the newer Player II series vs. the SE line?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Questions and Advice Need help deciding a neck

So I'm planning on building a partscaster in the coming months and I need some help deciding what parts brand to go with. I'm planning on finishing it myself so I'm in between getting an Allparts, Musikraft, Warmoth, or Mightymite neck. What are the pros and cons of the different brands. I tried researching myself but I can't find anything other than warmoth reviews. Is the higher price with Warmoth worth it?
