Discussion Watched Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture for the first time in preparation for Laocorn's game debut in November.
All I have to say is that was one hell of a flick. The storyline was really something, and could have even made a great plot for a game in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing how they incorporate parts of it into the game when Laocorn drops in November. And speaking of Laocorn, this was a great debut for him, and it's got me even more excited for his eventual debut. Overall, this was a movie I'd definitely watch again (preferably in English, if I can find it anywhere).

This movie is what made me an SNK and Terry Bogard fan. The Fatal Fury games always struck me as Street Fighter knock-offs, but this film got me specifically into King of Fighters because I liked how Terry was portrayed so much.
Didn't really like the off-brand villains Laocorn had working for him given they were designs and movesets specifically made as foils to the hero cast, but I am hyped to get Laocorn in CotW. Less so for Panni if she comes in a later season like everybody is expecting from the data mines.

I have to admit, I'm curious how you got the impression that the Fatal Fury games were Street Fighter knock-offs when they had things like the Lane System, Ring-Outs, and the S/P-Power Systems, lol.
Not hating, let me make that clear; it's just that I've actually seen a few people like you, so I'm curious. _^ Also, it's just funny to me because Fatal Fury and Street Fighter were both made by rhe same person (Takeshi Nishiyama), and Fatal Fury was actually what Street Fighter was supposed to be in the first place, which is why the first ever character you see in a Street Fighter game is the blonde guy who punches a hole in the wall in the title screen for the original Street Fighter. Noshiyama really came full circle, lol.

We're talking about the arcade era. I only played Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting a few times, but they just felt worse to play than Street Fighter regardless of mechanical differences. It's the same as how there were a bunch of off-brand fighting games released on the SNES after SF II got ported, but none of them felt as good to play. That's what I mean by feeling like a knock off. I hate the lane system to this day. It's complexity which actually detracts from the gameplay rather than enhancing it.

I wish they made a new one. Featuring Yamazaki as a bizarre/horror villain.

And finally Blue Mary, instead of creating a new love interest for Terry in every new adaptation

It’s crazy how many subtle Mai nip slips Obari managed to get in there. Not sure if Retrocrush censors them or not, I know Crunchyroll is uncensored

I'm wondering if this movie is going to be canon to the games (even if it's in a vague way), or if Laocorn is going to be introduced into the games in a much different way.

I think it's most likely certain parts of the third movie are being brought into and adapted for the modern day setting. If you watched the Teaser trailer for Season 3 of CotW the ending for that is Terry's intro scene (picture No. 2), but with his modern bomber jacket outfit.
It makes me wonder how they're going to adapt Laocorn's sister Sulia into the game. Will she be and NPC that pops up in the story or could they actually make her a fighter?

That movie has too much fan service. It is not a problem (Mai Shiranui exists) but there are too many ugly frames and scenes that needed extra work but they have prioritized fan service over overall quality

I don't agree it has too much fan service but I can't argue that there are scenes where the animation quality takes a real dive. The fight between Terry and the goons in the arcade is rough.

All three of the Obari Fatal Fury OVAs are a fun watch.
I’m not sure if they still are, but they used to all be up on YouTube if you did a little searching.
However I know for sure that they’re all available on RetroCrush in both English and Japanese Dubs.
In order you’d want to watch, Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf, Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle, and finally Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture.
There’s also Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown:The Motion Picture, Nakoruru ~Ano hito kara no okurimono [don’t believe it has an English Dub], and The King of Fighters: Another Day.
However they’re all of varying quality comparatively.
