Announcement: We have moderators!

As you can see, the spam is clearing up, and you may be wondering "Oh my god! Who is helping us?"

Our subreddit creator, /u/xamdam has added me as a moderator so that we can get some life back into this sub. I am actively trying to get the mod queue handled and the spam cleared up. I've also started setting up the automoderator, to help keep things clean. /u/condensed is also on the team. Over all I think we're off to a great start.

Should you guys see any spam, flag it. That will be the best way to help get visibility to problem posts. Also, feel free to downvote spam, both in the posts and comments, as that can help with some of the functions automod will do. I will keep my eyes peeled for things too.

If anyone wants to pitch in, reach out, and we can see how you too can help.

Question is there a best phone for reading for reading long epubs and pdfs?

i spend about an hour on the train every morning going through heavy epubs and pdfs using moon+ reader, but scrolling on a narrow aspect ratio display is turning into a massive chore. line wrapping looks totally crammed, font scaling gets messed up with pdf reflow, and constantly flipping pages on a tiny screen just ruins the whole reading flow during my commute.

i have been eyeing the samsung z fold8 because opening it up to that wider aspect ratio seems like it would render two page layouts or larger font sizes way better without feeling squished. carrying a dedicated e-ink device is not really practical for my pocket space, so i am trying to see if that inner screen real estate actually handles long reading sessions comfortably or if screen glare ends up giving you eye fatigue anyway.

Self Promotion Editing an EPUB cover and a 2.5 series number on Android, without changing the book text

I built EPUB Cover & Series Editor for people who want to fix an EPUB's metadata on their phone. A small example is a novella that belongs between books 2 and 3: set the series name and book number to 2.5, choose a local cover image, and save an edited copy. The original stays intact.

Unlimited single-book editing is free, including title, author, cover, series and decimal book numbers. Optional one-time Pro adds batches of up to 40 books. No ads or mandatory account.

Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superevilrobots.epubmetadata

One caveat: editing the EPUB's metadata doesn't force a reader's library to display it. Readers may cache their own metadata or use a separate database. In particular, this doesn't populate a stock Kobo's Series database by itself. It also doesn't remove DRM or fetch covers online.

Disclosure: I'm the developer and used AI assistance during development. If you already have a DRM-free EPUB and a cover image, the single-book workflow costs nothing.

Question Healthy Ways of reading E-Books

Hey everyone! I'm new to the world of reading and am really interested in building a daily reading habit.

Because of where I live, I don't have easy access to physical English books, so I have to read digital versions. The problem is that even though I use the default Windows night light and a software called 'Dimmer' to lower my monitor's brightness, I still get headaches after about an hour of reading. It completely ruins the vibe and the atmosphere of the book, especially when reading a novel.

I was curious to know: how do you guys read e-books in a way that is healthy for your eyes and mind? What software, apps, or extensions do you use to ease the experience?

Thanks a lot!

I wrote the teen money book I wish someone had handed me at sixteen

Thumbnail a.co

I'm 42. School taught me the Pythagorean theorem. Nobody taught me what to do with my first paycheque — so I spent a decade learning it the expensive way.

I kept watching the teenagers in my life get the exact same education I got: zero. So I wrote the book I wanted to hand them. Stack It. Twenty chapters, ages 13-18, written like I actually want a teenager to finish it.

It's not a lecture. It's the stuff I wish someone had told me: why starting at 13 beats starting at 23 (the math is genuinely unfair), paying yourself first, the Oh-Crap Fund, how index funds actually work, how debt quietly doubles the price of everything, and why lotteries and scams are the same business model.

There's a full chapter on tax-advantaged accounts — TFSA in my case, since I'm Canadian, but the principles travel.

I'm not here to sell you. It's on Kindle Unlimited, so it costs you nothing if you have it. I just wanted to make the thing I needed at sixteen. If it helps one teenager not learn this stuff the expensive way, it did its job.

Question Anyone else use Text to speech to read to you?

Hi, I just want to ask if anyone else take advantage of Kindle's Assistive Reader or ebook apps with TTS options so you can multitask while 'reading' ? Obviously it will not surpass actual voice actors doing Audiobooks but for books that are not popular that you still want to 'listen' to, Assistive Reader and ebook apps with free TTS is very helpful. My only problem is finding a good enough Text to Speech voice online.

I use Google's native TTS app for a decade now, but unfortunately nothing has changed for their voice, nor have any improvements been done, in my opinion. Do you have other TTS app you can recommend I get or buy one time? (Subscriptions are too expensive!) Thank you.
