"Can you believe everyone just left this guy in the road???" *Drives past blaring smooth jazz*

75

u/mbnum2 15h ago

Easy now… that’s “Careless Whisper” by George Michael. Have some respect for us 80s kids

12

u/hotprof 14h ago

Careless Poster.

4

u/taiwal 14h ago

Sound off on video and when I read the above comment I immediately started hearing this.

15

u/SharkSheppard 15h ago

That dude can suck Kenny Geeze Nutz

5

u/Darth_InVader7 14h ago

Call 911 and move on. You don’t have to get involved in other people’s shit. This person could be dangerous for all you know. But most likely it’s someone who was irresponsible with controlled substances. I’m not getting out of my car and becoming responsible for their health. 911 call, give them a location and description and continue on.

6

u/Dramatic-Ad-9730 14h ago

He could be really dangerous while unconscious in the middle of the road 😆

12

u/Darth_InVader7 13h ago

Survival instincts of a pothole. You don’t know he’s unconscious. You don’t know if there’s other people around waiting for you. It’s generally ill advised to get out of the car at night, especially in an unfamiliar area where someone is laying in the road. You don’t have a duty to assist, but if you do and make things worse then you can end up in trouble. If this person is truly passed out in the road, it’s best to let emergency services handle it. It’s their job, not yours. All you need to do is call 911.

9

u/Alternative-Lack-434 7h ago

I'm ok not getting out of the car, but call 911, put on your hazzards and keep the guy from getting run over.

4

u/Background-Syrup-714 13h ago

In today’s world, you don’t stop to “help” someone. you will get jumped by 6 guys and mugged.

2

u/BobBartBarker 14h ago

Smooth what?

78

u/Peaches4U9624 15h ago

WTF!? Please tell us OP that you circled back while calling 911 and then used your car to shield this person from getting hit until first responders arrived. Instead of doing nothing and then posting this video

-57

u/eatingURsistersassIV 14h ago

Lol  why should they

47

u/The_Gene_Genie 14h ago

Common decency?

4

u/BeholdMyLumps 7h ago

Why shouldn’t they? Because it’s “inconvenient” to you?

2

u/JOlRacin 7h ago

Because it's likely a robbery attempt. Pretty much anytime there's a large group of people with something in the middle of the road, it's a robbery attempt against anyone foolish enough to stop and unlock their car

4

u/BeholdMyLumps 6h ago

What shithole do you live in?

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 7h ago

Tons of reasons they should or shouldn't, but that isn't my point. You aren't entitled to someone else's grace or effort. Do i think most people should and would help? Yes. But that's because i think the majority of humanity is made of relatively good people. It it's literally the unspoken fact that you aren't entitled to it that makes someone's altruistic efforts so great, but maybe it's "inconvenient" for you to read clearly what i said and think critically?

103

u/NeitherEntry6125 15h ago

So you kept driving?

19

u/Darth_InVader7 14h ago

Yep! Not involving myself in other people’s problems. Substance abusers are not my responsibility. I’m continuing on my way and calling 911 to tell them what I saw. I’m not getting out of my car for what could be a trap, someone dangerous, or simply becoming responsible for someone else’s shit.

17

u/theartoffun 13h ago

Yeah it’s funny how telling that some people live in suburban fairytale neighborhoods, and some live in north Philly.

7

u/Darth_InVader7 13h ago

Bad people take advantage of kind people all the time. I wish we lived in a world where everyone passed out in the road was something you could safely stop and help with. But emergency services exist for a reason. I’d rather continue and call them than get out and literally put hands on this person to move them out of the road as some have suggested. If it’s truly an emergency, it’s still a bad idea to start moving unconscious people.

-1

u/Scared_Astronaut9377 10h ago

If it is the environment that would stop you from at least stoping the car, examining the person from it, calling 911, and waiting for them to arrive... Perhaps you may consider leaving everything behind and move? Otherwise it seems your environment is not compatible with one staying ethically a human outside of their home.

2

u/NobodyLikedThat1 10h ago

wise choice, quick call vs dealing with who knows what that you're probably not prepared for. Unless you happen to be an EMT with narcan on your person.

2

u/Dramatic-Ad-9730 14h ago

And what's this insinuation that his friends just let him be? You just drove by the guy where are his friends that referring to?

3

u/NeitherEntry6125 10h ago

He said that because he was the friend who left him

-6

u/Dramatic-Ad-9730 14h ago

A trap! 🤣 You're hilarious 😂

8

u/Darth_InVader7 14h ago

You must be new to the planet.

2

u/Dramatic-Ad-9730 14h ago

Like somebody's going to lay down in the middle of the street on a dark night hoping to trap somebody and maybe they won't get run over. 😆

2

u/Duce-de-Zoop 9h ago

Yes, my mom's HS friend was shot and killed doing almost exactly this. Two people faked injury on the side of the road. He picked them up to drive them to the hospital and they shot him in the back of the head.

3

u/Ivorytears86 13h ago

It actually happens ALOT. Not saying this was the case here but you would be suprised

-4

u/Dramatic-Ad-9730 11h ago

Not in the dark it doesn't

5

u/Ivorytears86 10h ago

Depends on where your at this gets used alot around dusk.

Wtf... You could have at least moved him off the road so he doesn't get run over and called 911.

People really just don't give a shit anymore

31

u/TieAdorable4973 15h ago

Could be an ambush… for that sweet sweet jazz

5

u/Kage_0ni 15h ago

You like jazz?

2

u/Msefk 15h ago

why you should carry an ultra-bright flashlight

12

u/theartoffun 13h ago

And that is a sure fire way to get into a possible altercation (stabbed or punched) with a person who chose to drink so much they would pass out in the road.

- Someone who grew up in the hood

7

u/StuffedFalafels 11h ago

As a woman,

No thanks. Never know what the situation is. You can call 911 but thats all im doing.

I was driving home late back in like 2023 and on i5 south outside of the turn off towards Vacaville it looked like there was a body on the side of the road. I did not stop.

Absolutely not. I did call police but no way in hell would i stop and get out my car.

-12

u/eatingURsistersassIV 14h ago

If he did, great. If not,  stfu. Society isnt morally obligated to take care of you.

15

u/Althalal 14h ago

And this is why society is going to shit. We all as individuals are the society. No one’s obligated to do shit sure.. but this is a reason they call something like this a moral obligation. Some have morals and some don’t… and the more people think like this. Those morals are being lost.

0

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

That's why i said it was great if he did, but I'm not naive enough to demand the world cater to your poor decisions deliberately or otherwise.

9

u/keelhaulrose 14h ago

Some places have "bad Samaritan" laws, where legally you are required to help someone in an emergency situation such as this.

But even if not, you have no humanity with this comment.

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

I didn't say i agreed with it or how i would act. I Just understand how the world works and i know that nobody is obligated to do anything for anyone. People that act are gracious and great people, but I'm not stupid enough to demand grace and kindness from everyone.

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

Rarely, if ever is anyone ever prosecuted under those laws. Mostly because in court it's hard to prosecute. Most "bad samaritan" laws generally are industry specific and states that a have a broad application do absolutely fuck all with it.

-2

u/Important-Border7035 14h ago

Also a good way to get jumped by traffic pirates

2

u/keelhaulrose 14h ago

Yes, those well- known US traffic pirates.

2

u/Important-Border7035 13h ago

I guess since you say it doesn’t happen, it must not lmao.

-1

u/keelhaulrose 11h ago

Or I looked at crime statistics.

These kind of traffic pirates aren't really a thing in the US based on actual crime data.

2

u/Important-Border7035 11h ago

Unlikely doesn’t mean impossible. The two are fundamentally different. At the end of the day, (apparently) you’re the person who gets out of the car and takes the risk and I continue along home to my family. FAFO

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

And thank god for that dipshit.

-1

u/keelhaulrose 10h ago

Again, look at the crime statistics.

Find me any instance of that kind of traffic piracy in the US. I'll wait.

It doesn't happen here. Too many of our vehicles have trackers on them, among other reasons.

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

My wife was driving in the back woods of Georgia where two men threw a tree branch across the road and tried to get her stop. It's not on record because why bother calling? The local area was serviced by the major metro area for police. It was at least an hour and 15 minutes before police would arrive so typically people don't bother calling in these types of communities because it won't matter.

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

Believing crime statistics show all of the real world criminal situations in America is just another way to say you grew up sheltered with zero fucking idea of how lesd privileged communities operate. God damn.

1

u/Important-Border7035 10h ago

Lmao you missed the point. Baseball, huh?

3

u/Dabnbf 13h ago

This attitude is a prime example of why we're in this shit hole of a country now

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV 10h ago

I didn't make a moral judgement about how someone should act. I made a statement about how society as a whole acts.

Also, who hurt you? While our country certainly faces hard times, there is still tons of hope for tomorrow so idk why you're so negative

-2

u/TravisMCatchem 13h ago

Natural selection if you are dumb enough to get this drunk you deserve what ever comes your way

11

u/EmperorMeow-Meow 15h ago

You should have pulled over and called 911 before someone accidentally runs over that guy.

32

u/tristand1ck 15h ago

"so I just rolled past, can't be late for work!"

-7

u/WhereMyWeirdosAt 14h ago

"Ya boss, sorry I'm 2 hours late... had to stop and help a random drunk guy laying in the road."

2

u/Quick-Road943 11h ago

"here lies random cammer, an innocent good samaritan, taken too young. those responsible for the ambush shall be punished by the law... if they ever find them

anyways, here's careless whisper by george michael. it was his favorite song"

6

u/WKRPinCanada 14h ago

Early morning this man was passed out drunk and his friends just let him be

And you know this how?

Are you psychic & gleaned that as you passed him by?

Maybe there's a chance that this person is there to draw you out of your car so you can be robbed or car jacked but if you were worried about that you still could have stopped and called for a welfare check. You wouldn't even have to hang around if you didn't want to

7

u/Traditional_War2963 15h ago

Guy very well could have been dead. I get being cautious about approaching that situation, but I would park my car in a way that blocks the person from being run over, call the cops, and stay there until they arrive.

6

u/accidentallyatesoap 15h ago

someone died like that in a parking lot in Gainesville, Florida.

22

u/Few-Cricket7178 15h ago

It would have taken you about the same amount of time to check on him than it did to save the video and post it here

17

u/Mythosaurus 14h ago

And it would have taken the same amount of time for OP to get robbed at gunpoint by that “drunk” and friends waiting behind the camper.

Just call 911

5

u/Darth_InVader7 14h ago

Finally someone who understands how the world works. Call 911 and continue on. It’s hardly ever a good idea to get involved in something like this. It’s just a bunch of virtue signaling people in here.

2

u/Few-Cricket7178 11h ago

This is a chronically online way of thinking. You saw a couple videos of someone getting ambushed in a different country and now you think you know how the "real world" works. Zero chance this would have been an ambush.

5

u/AngryAtEverything01 14h ago

It just takes one garbage truck to not see him and he’s dead

9

u/fuckexoticroots 15h ago

And you just drove past him so.... yeah

3

u/ffilennotffound 13h ago

OP did you really not at least move him out of the road?

2

u/Ivorytears86 13h ago

Hell no. Call 911 and continue on. Op made the right call to move on.

1

u/ffilennotffound 11h ago

You're probably right.

2

u/TempSmootin 9h ago

Lol judges so hard and changes his mind so fast

2

u/CyBroOfficial 9h ago

People like you are the reason no one admits that they're wrong

1

u/ffilennotffound 7h ago

Yep. Online you gotta' "own" the other person and being snarky and edgy is all most people have the capacity for.

1

u/BroWhatTheChrist 7h ago

I get your point, but at the same time the commenter pointed out something notable that may help the other person avoid misplaced confidence in the future. He wasn’t belittling him for changing his mind, but criticizing his prior misplaced confidence. I've observed a lot of people who perpetually insist on their wrong opinions with utmost certainty, never learning, when the truth is revealed that contradicts said opinions, that maybe their general or domain-specific threshold of certainty should be adjusted. I've often thought all it might take to brake the loop is a little nudging. Nomesayn? Granted, the commenter could’ve been more courteous about it, but imo, under most circumstances, the onus is on an individual to admit fault regardless of expected criticism.

1

u/Ivorytears86 5h ago

Your opinion is yours regardless of what my opinion of the situation is. Having a different outlook of any given situation is not necessarily a bad thing, nor is changing your mind on any given stance.

5

u/trillamane_01 13h ago edited 12h ago

What makes you think they're drunk? They could be overdosed, having some kind of other medical emergency, or dead.

9

u/GreenLush2188 15h ago

Why do you think he has friends? If he has friends, why do you think they are responsible for him?

My question to you: Why didn't you help him? Why do you think somebody else should help him when you were right there?

10

u/Ztoffels 15h ago

Yall niggas too inocent.

You stop, get out of the car, then get jumped…

You call 911 and let the people who get paid to handle that, to handle it

5

u/cseyferth 15h ago

As far as we know, OP did neither.

2

u/NeitherEntry6125 14h ago

As we all know...

6

u/escobartholomew 15h ago

wtf you sure he wasn’t dead??

-1

u/WhereMyWeirdosAt 14h ago

gotta tap the balls to see if they're awake

2

u/RiMcG 14h ago

I used to deliver lost luggage in the late 90s, we're the closest airport for VA tech. That first week of school driving through town was a nightmare. Drunk college kids love to dart out between cars and on two occasions I saw a drunk person passed out in the open. One dude was sleeping it off in the middle of a parking lot and the other one was half on a bench.

2

u/Mystery-Ess 14h ago

So you're assuming a whole backstory? Like you have no idea if he was with somebody and you're blaming people that aren't there. You're wild!

2

u/Background-Syrup-714 13h ago

Reseda is a weird place.

7

u/Mobile-Analyst8580 15h ago

Op. You’re SCUM.

3

u/Ivorytears86 13h ago

Not really stopping to help what could have possibly been and ambush would be stupid.

1

u/Eastern-Echo2737 6h ago

nah they could’ve been killed or robbed. we live in a society where you can’t stop and help someone that looks passed out in the road bc he’s faking it and all his friends are camping out waiting for a savior so they can assault you and steal your car

1

u/Marmstr17 1h ago

you dont have a clue what youre talking about 🙌

3

u/Exciting-Argument-67 15h ago

... as did the driver.
???

4

u/toastman741 14h ago

I mean as soon as they drove by, George said it best. "Maybe it's better this way" 🤣🤣

I'm a terrible person. I'll see myself out now 🤦🏾‍♂️

2

u/Electric-Sheepskin 14h ago

I think we all need to acknowledge that no one knows why that guy is in the street. He could be passed out, dead, or he could be lying in wait with his friends hiding behind a car waiting to rob you.

That said, hell no, I would not have gotten out of my car at night on an empty street. I would have driven past while calling 911 and circling around, maybe stopping while keeping my head on a swivel and waiting for emergency services, but there ain't no way in hell I'm getting out of the car, and some of y'all really need to rethink your survival instincts.

2

u/Firm_Raccoon_1727 15h ago

Douche cammer.

3

u/Ruger338WSM 15h ago

Criminal indifference.

1

u/No_Measurement7805 15h ago

You can’t take the moral high ground if you do the same

1

u/NooooDazzzle 13h ago

And did you call 9-1-1?

1

u/Open_Entry6868 11h ago

How do you know that? You didn't stop and check on him.

1

u/Bakurraa 11h ago

You did much better

1

u/Agile-Advisor6839 9h ago

I always get involved in situations like these. Yes I have three knife wounds. But ive also saved a lot of lives. Worth it? Every single time.

That being said. I strongly belive not everyone has the fortitude and especially the disposition to get involved with strange NPC interactions.

Only thing that is regrettable are the good Samaritan laws. Or lack thereof

1

u/Humble_Key_4259 8h ago

Looks like a classic ambush. I'd leave him be but call 911 and report it right away.

1

u/eaglep1603 7h ago

Driver is a POS.

1

u/Eastern-Echo2737 6h ago

Everyone is saying he should’ve stopped, but putting injured/dead looking people on or near a roadway is a known criminal tactic 🤷‍♀️ you get out of the car and you are taking a huge chance on your life and all of your belongings… I would’ve drove past as well. Especially at night.

1

u/Cautious-Moran1116 5h ago

I wouldn't exactly call them friends.

1

u/Right-Detail7414 4h ago

His friends? How do you know. You definitely know that something is wrong but you kept driving. WTF is wrong with people. Humanity is fucked at the moment

1

u/XtraThickBacon 14h ago

You stop and then a group of his buddies ambush you and now you're laying in the street. Go down the block and make a call.

1

u/NewtownLaw 14h ago

Did you call the cops?

1

u/Illustrious_Hotel527 13h ago

Drive several blocks away and call 911. Would not help person (ambush in narrow street)

-6

u/BigAcanthocephala667 15h ago

For the people calling the driver scum for not stopping to help: That's exactly how you get mugged. You just drive 50m away, then stop, lock your car and then you come back by foot to check.

18

u/southernraven47 15h ago

? No that is how you get mugged. Just stop your car and stay inside while blocking the lane and calling 911

1

u/Eastern-Echo2737 6h ago

Until the attacker smashes your window or shoots it out in .5 seconds and rips you out of the car

4

u/Slimjimdunks 15h ago

I would definitely be hollering from my window and be ready to drive through any muggers. I feel like investigating outside of your vehicle could get you robbed just as easy, especially if the muggers watch you park just 50m away. They could mug you for wallet and keys and run 50m to your car and take that too.

2

u/Exciting-Argument-67 15h ago

Okay, that would have been fine, but there's no evidence the driver did that.

1

u/Zelda_is_Dead 15h ago

Sure, but if you do do that, you usually say "that's what I did" in the context part of your post... OP didn't, so it's safe to assume they didn't.

1

u/NewtownLaw 14h ago

Is this really a thing in your country? Are there any news to this happening for real?

-1

u/hollisdex 14h ago

You seem a bit careless. I'll see myself out.....

No but in all seriousness, I hope you at least called an ambulance. Christ...

-1

u/toastman741 14h ago

Thanks for joining me in hell friend 🤣🤣 I've clearly been on reddit too long today. I'm going to touch grass 🤣

-1

u/hollisdex 14h ago

Yeah I think I should touch grass as well. I think that's the right idea lol.

u/GloriousPudding 15h ago

I have a friend like that, passed out in the middle of the street. After dragging him to the sidewalk, he usually finds his way back to the middle again. This has happened many times and he is not change his ways until maybe something happens. Sad but true.
