Lambaorghini attempts overtake on a residential street in New Zealand, instantly finds out

u/Surturius 17h ago
The funniest thing is, dude actually had plenty of time and space (on the wrong side of the road) to do that stupid maneuver, he just wanted to cut the other driver off for some reason and had no fucking skill
61
u/fitzbuhn 16h ago
The other car was already changing lanes to the right (probably trying to get away from him). He cut it so close for no good reason.
Also this is a perfect opportunity to roll down the window and laugh at him Nelson-style as you drove by.

u/jk844 16h ago
They were driving around the parked cars, that’s why they went right. Probably didn’t even know the Lambo was there.
2
u/Cormophyte 14h ago
I think they swung out so wide changing lanes around the park cars specifically to let the Lamborghini pass to their left. Didn't anticipate the F1-style pass attempt.

He was changing lanes to avoid the parked cars
3
u/fitzbuhn 15h ago
He was almost fully into the other lane after one parked car length; he effectively changed lanes whatever his intent.
1
u/snakeLipssynk 3h ago
I couldn't see if the mini signalled. Not that that changes the idiotic behaviour of the lambo, nor that the mini had already changed lanes before the lambo overtook, but if the mini didn't signal, the lambo, despite speeding, could argue they were cut off resulting in a 50-50 fault?

Could have been a panic reaction when he realized how fast he was heading towards not being on the road anymore. Which means the lack of skill started with his understanding of how fast the car would accelerate.

It looks like RWD without either experience or ESC.
4
u/salamoon84 13h ago
no, he/she rammed into vehicle he/she was overtaking... terrible space orientation.
3
u/Anonymous_user_2022 13h ago
That's true. My previous comment was that either skille or electronic training wheels on the car would have prevented that.
1
u/Evening-Painting-213 11h ago
Probably was planning on cutting the other car short then brake checking them. Hope the other car had a cam.

No indicator and shifts completely into the right lane while given half a lane for the parked car, stupid setup for the road though imo where exactly is this? Maybe that would change my opinion.
2
u/Known-Associate8369 6h ago
NZ, and that style of road is very very common here - the left lane probably has parking restrictions on it some days of the week to accommodate higher traffic flows. Other days or times, it’s essentially a parking lane.
Very very common in NZ, as I said.

I want to see the fire. Apparently the front of the Lamborghini was engulfed in flames.
Oh and a 39-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving and summoned to appear in court
8
u/Averagebaddad 17h ago
I wonder how the front would catch fire
6
9
2
u/Paranormal_Lemon 15h ago
The engine is in the back
5
u/Averagebaddad 13h ago
Yes it's a mid engine car. Hence the question wondering why the front would be on fire

Proof the rich didn't earn their money from inherent intelligence.
What a waste of a car.
9
u/Kitchen-Cabinet-5000 13h ago
Especially the innocents involved that now have to deal with paperwork, insurance, the stress and time involved of losing their car and having to find a replacement. Probably can’t get to work tomorrow and will have to explain that to their boss.
All because some entitled dickhead had to drive like a jackass.
1
u/begriffschrift 11h ago
This happened in a very wealthy suburb, those are both European cars, they will be fine
2
u/shade-block 15h ago
Rich?
Where I'm from if you see something that expensive on the road it's usually a rental.
68
u/twolinepine 17h ago
Money can buy you a nice car. Apparently it can’t buy you good decision making.

u/Moonshin3americ 17h ago

u/travelingwhilestupid 17h ago
Buying this car is a bad decision.
2
u/_jump_yossarian 15h ago
People that can afford to buy these cards generally don't have to worry about the consequences.
3
u/travelingwhilestupid 15h ago
I wouldn't be so sure. I've met people who bought this stuff on credit and ended up with financial problems. oddly, they seem relatively accepting of the ups and downs in their lives.
1
u/_jump_yossarian 15h ago
"generally"
2
u/HumbleHumonculus 13h ago
Most people who buy these cars don't own them outright. Even supposedly rich Tate brothers didn't own theirs. People spend so much money trying to look rich it fools people thinking the upper classes are richer than they are. That that kind of wealth is even remotely within reach. It's not, not while the currently rich cement their places and systematically remove opportunities from the lower classes.

Did either of them use their signals?
11
u/CaseyIsTired_ 17h ago
Roads like this are super common in the UK where a third of your lane randomly becomes parking and not a lot of people use turn signals to straddle lanes for a while
8
u/cmVkZGl0MjAyNQ 16h ago
My instructor actively recommended not signaling in that case and said it was because “they will need to go around that obstacle” will be inferred by other drivers but signalling may confuse them into thinking you’re gonna do a full lane change or turn instead
5
u/CaseyIsTired_ 16h ago
100% there's no requirement to indicate passing obstacles, indicating misconstrues your intention to straddle to other drivers when your change in positioning should convey that
1
u/ilmalnafs 15h ago
So straddling is the norm? That probably explains why the lambo did this maneuver, he expected the other car to straddle instead of do a full lane change. I guess the other car should have used blinker here then since it seemed to be a full swap. Still super the fault of the lambo, just maybe 99.5% instead of 100%.
3
u/CaseyIsTired_ 15h ago
In the UK yeah because of our old tight road layouts. It works functionally as a merge though as straddling doesn't leave room for a car in the outside lane.
1
u/FehdmanKhassad 13h ago
Leave a bit of space but this car is headed to fully occupy the outside lane or whatever you want to call it. Which in my opinion deserves a little indicate. Both at fault.

Doesn’t look very Lord of the Rings imho

5
u/FluffyDeer9323 13h ago
This is Remuera. A flash part of Auckland. Home to lots of lords, and expensive rings. Also lots of well healed older people who drive terribly, and clearly plenty of new money in luxury cars they can’t handle on streets that aren’t designed for them.

The lambo should have completed the pass. From what I'm seeing, there was nothing coming the opposite direction.
The driver should not have made the attempt but once out there, don't wince at crossing the line, finish the maneuver.
Are kiwis RHD? I can see that as having been a contributor. All the same, a driver has to have a feel for the car's dimensions and know when there's another car alongside. That driver was cutting over before the Mini had even entered the blind spot and now, now has a whopping repair bill to address.
9
u/this_is_bs 16h ago
Yeah why did he try and get back left so quickly, he had plenty of time and pace to fully pass. Panicked? Ah maybe lack of control.
Of course the entire move was stupid...
5
u/Stubborn_Shove 13h ago
I assume they got back over so quickly because they were trying to intimidate the other driver by cutting it as close as possible.
4
u/EastmoonNa6 17h ago
Why would being rhd make a difference
2
1
u/myco_magic 12h ago
Being slightly harder to see on the left side maybe, I can definitely judge the mirror on my left side slightly better being my car is lhd.
6
u/spinstartshere 11h ago
You realise everything is flipped, right? That means the side of the road you're driving on, and also the conditions inside the vehicle.
1
1
u/Old_Competition3094 11h ago
Yeah but people who pass like that have to whip it back into the lane as quick as possible to prove their point.
1
u/Evening-Painting-213 11h ago
Seems like the driver probably didn't expect the crispness and control of the Lamborghini capabilities of turning. Probably too much car for them.
2
u/King__Cactus__ 17h ago
If there's money for a Lambo, there's money to cover that Lambo and anything it does. Doesn't excuse the actions of the driver, but at least the damaged party will be covered.

u/Buttholes_N_Boobies 16h ago
It's almost like driving a RWD car with 600HP, juicing it at a low speed, then abruptly trying to change the direction... all while not being a qualified driver of said car (ie. more money than brains) is a bad idea.
Edit: this was likely a 'luxury rental'... and there's a reason they make you pay for a two day million dollar umbrella policy when you rent them.

As I was watching the video events unfold I was astonished to watch the Lambo driver perfectly ‘self-pit’ himself against the front right corner of the Mini … the maneuver couldn’t have been better executed if they tried … and the results were predictable after that. Very poor Lambo driver who didn’t ‘know’ where the four corners of their vehicle were. 😳🙄💩

This sub: The Mini is to blame. I mean, anyone could've predicted that Lambo driver was a total idiot and braked sooner.

u/deliciuos_panda 16h ago
Can we talk about the odd shaped street and parking lots? Car in front had to switch lanes. Without this, the lambo would had his own lane and didn’t need to go on the shaped area.

u/ps4kratos 13h ago
That’s an easy claim 50/50 mini didn’t use signal therefore unsafe lane change. Lambo overtaking and following too close.

Did we watch the same video? The mini is getting over to avoid the parked car. It doesn't swerve into the lambo, the lambo swerves into it.
3
1
u/Cexgod 17h ago
lmao the mini was not paying attention and partly at fault sure, but the lambo swerved and slammed into them
2
u/CaseyIsTired_ 17h ago
There was no one in the outside land before or after they started straddling lanes. A car driving in oncoming traffic for 3 seconds before turning into the side of your car is not something paying a superhuman amount of attention would have avoided
1
u/Cornflakes_91 17h ago
the mini was already halfway into the other lane before lambo even started his overtake.
you can also see lambo going left into the mini while mini did 0 course corrections besides avoiding going into the opposing lane

u/escobartholomew 17h ago
Damn that lambo is an idiot but fuck that mini for not signaling for the lane change.
