It’s a multi generational epic about violence and the price of power. It starts with hunter rose in the then present 1980s and goes all the way to the 26th century with the world taken over by Grendel. The character of Grendel as personified by Hunter Rose can be described as an evil version of Batman and the Shadow.

You can start with the omnis or the Devil by the deed hardcover which remasters the first story arc. The Grendel tales series, which also available as omnis fleshed out the world nicely.

Be aware that the softcover omnis by darkhorse don’t hold candle to the hardcovers done by Marvel and DC.

That be Argent who is the Antagonist to the Hunter Rose Grendel incarnation. It could be argued that they are both morally grey characters.

It starts as a crime pulp black and white comic about a masked villain. Then it moves forward two generations(and starts being printed in color)to a woman writing a book about her infamous relative. She gets obsessed with the mask and the weapon and eventually adopts the persona. The story keeps continuing into the future. It's incredible, I can't recommend it enough. Oh, and there's two Batman crossovers. And The Shadow.

The Batman crossovers are very good but missing from the Omnis.
