Experienced Hiring manager meet

After 6 years and an unexpected redundancy I’m currently interviewing.

Had the first stage with recruiter, went well. Next ones are hiring manager interview and then technical.

What can i expect from HM? Is it a technical discussion or is it more cultural fit etc?

Thank you

I believe the recruiter must have done an initial vetting through a normal conversation?

I have never heard an HM interview before technical though.

Agree, i thought it’s weird as well to meet the HM before technical.. i guess my advantage is coming from the same field so the recruiter wanted to schedule the next phase straight away

If the HM has a tech background, ensure that you are ready with your technical background and what you have mentioned in the resume. Pretty sure, that it will be a techno-managerial round, seems like a small to mid sized company?

I am curious as to what you may face, so do let me know what happens. Thanks

Wishing you the best πŸ€

I've had HM before technical in a couple of loops before. These are usually not super in-depth and no coding. TBH I'd prefer it this way versus a phone screen, OA, or take home followed by the HM not wanting to move forward.

its almost always behavioral and team fit at the HM stage. they might poke at your resume to understand scope and impact but dont expect leetcode. the real technical grilling is saved for the next round

Probably mix of both.

Ask the recruiter how much technical depth the hiring manager expects. In parallel, prepare why this role, what you owned in recent projects, and how you worked with others. Have two projects ready where you can explain the constraint, your choice, the tradeoff, and the impact without turning the answer into a full architecture lecture.

I’m building Taleproof; try it with one real project story to assess whether the hiring manager can see both your technical judgment and your individual contribution.

Honestly, be prepared for a clown show of disorganization and confrontation. Instead of an opening small talk, imagine getting hit with a riddle to disqualify you out of the gate. I can't remember the last time I had a normal HM interview.

During my last interview, the hm kept their camera off and it turns out mixed up the job description with the recruiter. I was interviewing for the wrong job. Several hours of preparation were wasted.
