Hi all, bosnian living in Italy, writing in english simply to hear what other tourists may have to say, but feel free to comment in croatian. I do not want to insult anyone with this post, i believe croatia is beautiful, this post is a critic on the level of restaurants, bars and hotels/apartments
i grew up going to croatia in the summer (until i was 14/16, then i began spending summers with friends and working lol) but i remember my parents and grandparents taking me to baška voda, makarska, zara, pula, korčula (And maybe other places, but not sure).
My gf is italian, from Apulia (salento area, ionical sea). And this year we decided to go to croatia instead of apulia like we often do. We stayed in baška voda and rovinj (visiting split and other places to eat/have drinks) and we were kind of disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the sea was amazing, we went in the first 10 days of September. But the hotels/apartments were not amazing, they seemed outdated, even tho we reserved 7 months in advance, the restaurants were good, but nothing to write home about (not to mention the service in some places, even as someone who speaks the language). The bars are also disappointing, drinks were very expensive and the food given with the drinks was very basic or of low quality (sliced meats and cheeses seemed bought already sliced and slapped on the plates).
i remember Croatia being much, much better. I talked about this to my dad, and he said we should’ve just gone to apulia, and that it has gotten worse. He added that they are not prepared for the amount of tourists they have and have just raised prices without actually matching similarly priced areas around the world.
were we just unlucky? Did we visit in the wrong time of year? Did we visit the wrong places?
Thank you all
