Code-switching is so interesting. I was once at work and I said, regarding a customer who had just cussed out out manager, "He's a bastard anyway," and my coworker responded, "And you don't even swear!" Another time, I was with members of a community theatre I perform with, one of whom I've known for about nine years. It was after a performance and we were talking about going out to eat, so I said, "Yeah, I could fuck up some mozzarella sticks right now." This man's eyes went wide and he said, "I don't think I've ever heard you swear before!"
Meanwhile, you ask one of my friends or my mother, and they'll attest I swear regularly. I just save it for when I'm in a casual environment.

There's the professional voice/speech
And then there's the friend voice/speech
Like with me, works is very courteous and professional. At home/with friends? I sound like a fucking sailor

I wonder what customers think when I switch to my lighter-toned customer service voice after just speaking with my coworkers with my lower, more casual tone

When I and my disc golfing buddies are out on the course we put on Australian accents and start aggressively flirting.
