Thats a pretty sad excuse itās like saying āhe was gonna kill somebody anyway, itās not our fault we gave him a gun.ā Sure crazy people will be crazy people but it doesnāt mean we have to enable them to create real life harm.
Homeboy would have murdered with or without chatgpt, he could have just as easily gone on an ask reddit sub and gone to the same conclusion, should we ban reddit in your perfect world?
Honestly? Banning Reddit would do more good for me than bad at least. But you know if this guy talked to humans heād get human answers, which vary and youād have people talking him out of it because humans donāt have to validate absolutely everything. Meanwhile chatbots are designed to always agree and validate anything they hear for customer retention. Think about it, if you were a chatbot youād have to agree with me but you donāt because you are human. Thats really all the proof you need.
There are plenty of echo chambers on the internet my guy, admittedly Iām not the most familiar with this dudeās case, but Iām aware enough to note that he likely didnāt come out to the AI and say he was going to commit murder, so he would not have told reddit either, so no one would have talked him out of anything if they didnāt know
Itās not going to prevent jack shit is the point, I could get on any message board on the internet and supply the same basic information he did, and get random internet dipshitās to point me or anyone else to the exact same place he wound up from chatgpt, so yes, letās prevent all the bad things from happening by shutting off the whole internet, infact letās go a step further, I could supply the same information to my friends down at the local bar (or wherever), and after a few cold ones they could nudge me in the same direction so letās just get rid of all human contact and bam, no more bad things will ever happen again, is that the world you want?
I wouldnāt, and Iām willing to bet neither are you because you seem to not be completely fucking insane, but that does not mean it cant happen to anyone, hell I use chatgpt, (mostly to critique and proof read my fanfiction, since I lack anyone willing and technically skilled enough in my life to do that for me) given Iām clearly on the internet and not in prison, I have not murdered anyone
Most people wouldn't but chat it's are uniquely built to agree with delusions as much as possible. That's why they're more dangerous than random assholes on the Internet.

OP, I think you've just created a new modern fiction trope: he went nuts because AI š it's not entirely unlike a haunting set-up.
