Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP Nerfs Created a Toxic Meta

3.2k Upvotes

Since dungeon monsters do not give any experience, as a new player, getting into dungeons with more veteran players who try to skip half the dungeon feels really bad. And, vice-versa, veterans taking in newbies who don't know how to jump around feels frustrating. I think Blizzard created a mess with nerfing dungeon exp so much and now the new player experience is horrible for dungeons.

This is the first time a model has clashed so badly with its surroundings that it took me out of the game for a second. It probably wouldn't be as much of a problem if the "Forever" model, which reuses the retail blood elf, weren't clad in such low-res armor, but in the context of Durotar's terrain, and especially next to my SD undead mage, it looks really jarring. I only slightly prefer the Classic look over the older retail blood elf, but that's mostly nostalgia from growing up with WC3. Compared to the HD model, there's simply no competition in my opinion.

Forever Beta Feedback Can we have the old portrait instead of the retail ones ?

Post image

I thought it was a given that, upon choosing the SD option when first launching the game I would get the iconic portraits.

Finding instead the retail slop ones was disappointing. Can blizzard give us those back and I guess, draw some for the smurfs ?

I know some of you will blame me for this. Saying this does not matter, but it does. When creating an alt, the OG set up the vibe and are a big part of the iconography that allows you to imagine what your next toon will be.

Forever Beta Feedback Walking animations are not connecting to the ground anymore on some races

3.6k Upvotes

Classic left, Forever right (SD and HD are the same animation)

This may seem small, but the little things like this made classic renowned for its high attention to detail and passion from the devs.

This is the same for running animations on some races.

I’ve posted multiple bug reports since day 1 of beta.

Please fix, Blizzard, I don’t want characters in game to be moonwalking around. Literally unplayable.

Forever Beta Feedback Forever wow has wierd art direction rant I need the devs to take it more seriously

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

First of all I wanna say I been really enjoying the beta of wow forever so far but... I cant get it out of my mind that it feels like they are shitting on us about the SD models stuff, I heard in a xaryu stream that if the streamers hadnt pushed for sd models we wouldn't have had them, hear that makes me really concerned they don't care abt this at all and the new armor sets look cool but they don't look anything like the og tier sets like the art direction is all over the place... maybe im alone in feeling this concern but somehow I feel like we need to push up the volume on this and make the devs actually think about what they add and if it fits the world not just add retail graphics style stuff imo doesn't fit the classic spirit they where talking about...

Anyway just need to rant this out and maybe see if anyone has some good ideas on how to make this not become the case 🙃

Forever Beta Feedback I enjoyed first week of beta very much, maybe a little too much...

So i've leveled all classes to current level cap on PVE server - I'm a hardcore enjoyer so don't feel a need to participate in PVP. I had lots of fun leveling and can't wait for Blizzard to raise level cap to 30. I've checked all classes and specs out and can provide some feedback if You're still hesitating on what to play.

My personal LEVELING/ENJOYMENT (noPVP) tierlist of classes right now for this level cap:

S+: Hunter (best class hands down due to pet)
S: Warlock (very strong class when You relise spirit is king)
A: Shaman(decent overall unless You play ele) / Paladin (yes, You can almost 1 shot most mobs, but feels clunky when fighting 3-4 mobs)
B: Mage (has potential to be A, because new scrolls look VERY interesting, especially "Cryoblast")
C: Rogue (felt bad early, decent later, nothing exciting or new about this class) / Priest(strong, could be A, but PWS +wand playstyle too boring, so C)
D: Warrior ( needs some help with rage gen, yes You can solo dung as prot, but You need giga gear. no gear=nofun)
E: Druid (currently worst feeling class in the game - sad but true, needs miracle on almost every aspect, resto feels decent)

Forever Beta Feedback Blizzard, you've got a chance to birth a legend

1.9k Upvotes

Streamer gold buyers this, warrior rage gen that...

Blizzard, just wipe the servers when you up the cap to 30. You need more data on leveling speed and xp distribution anyway. Aggrend said in that interview with xaryu that forever time-to-twenty(TTT) was comparable to anniversary TTT, but people werent following optimized routes on week 1 of beta. If unoptimized TTT in beta matches optimized TTT in Anni, thats a problem. Beta has no promise of permanence. Wipe them boys and get better data to make the actual release better.

Also, watching all these gold buyers freak out will be gold.

Forever Beta Feedback Blizzard just gave Arms Warriors 31-talent points capstone ability Mortal Strike to a Hunter PET.

1.3k Upvotes

Now a Hunter's pet gets it. For free. No 31 talent points. No commitment. Just a mortal strike ability on a 6 second cooldown that a beast handles while the Hunter stands 30 yards away plinking arrows.

Warriors are apparently starving for resources to actually use their kit, and now the one signature tool that made warriors unique in PVP is being handed to a pet class as a bonus feature.

The content creator Kargoz goes into depth about this being the most broken thing in wow forever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kH7gF1PSgs

Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP nerfs punish legitimate players because Blizzard can't solve its botting problem

I'm getting tired of this argument that dungeon running isn't the "Classic experience" and that questing should be the primary way to level.

First of all, why should legitimate players be punished because bots and boosting groups abused dungeon XP? If the problem is botting, address the bots. If the problem is boosting, address boosting. Nerfing dungeon XP across the board just punishes everyone else, including tanks, healers, and ordinary players who enjoy running dungeons as part of their leveling experience.

And let's be honest: dungeon running isn't always faster than questing.

Sure, there are specific cases, like Scarlet Monastery, where running the dungeon repeatedly can arguably be more efficient than questing. But try getting a group to Maraudon, travelling all the way there, and organizing everything. That takes time. Depending on your class, group composition, and circumstances, questing or grinding in the open world can be just as efficient, if not better.

The other problem is this bizarre idea that questing is somehow the authentic Classic experience. It isn't.

During the original WoW beta, Blizzard had to add more quests because players were getting bored of grinding mobs and wanted more things to do. Grinding mobs was a fundamental part of the original leveling experience, whether you did it in the open world or inside dungeons. Quests were added to make leveling more accessible and varied, not to establish one sacred, mandatory way of progressing through the game.

People seem to have forgotten that.

And if we're going to talk about preserving the Classic experience, let's talk about what actually changed the world. Dungeon running didn't kill the open world. Flying mounts, among other later design decisions, fundamentally changed how players interacted with it.

Look at the state of Classic today. Mega servers, layers packed with players, and dozens of people competing for the same quest mobs and drops. Is standing in a line with 50 other players waiting for a quest objective really the Classic experience we're trying to preserve?

The original game had smaller server communities where you would often find yourself questing alone, recognize familiar players, and gradually build relationships with people on your server. That experience is difficult to recreate when the population is enormous and everything is overcrowded.

Yet somehow, the solution is to make one of the other legitimate ways to level less rewarding.

Why are we treating dungeon runners as if they're playing the game incorrectly? Tanks and healers are essential to keeping groups running. Some players genuinely prefer instanced content. Others enjoy the social aspect of repeatedly running dungeons with familiar people. And some simply prefer grinding mobs over completing a checklist of quests.

All of these are legitimate ways to play an MMORPG.

The argument that everyone should quest because that's "the Classic way" is historically questionable and ignores how people actually played the original game. Grinding was always part of Classic. Dungeons were always part of Classic. Questing was one part of a much larger leveling experience.

Honestly, sometimes it feels like Blizzard is more interested in dictating how players should play than in understanding why they enjoy the game in the first place. At this point, I'm half convinced there's a quiet competition between the developers and some of the legendary dungeon runners to see who can outlast whom.

If botting and boosting are the problem, target those activities specifically. Don't gut dungeon leveling for everybody else.

Classic should be about giving players different ways to experience the world, not forcing everyone into the same leveling route.

Forever Beta Feedback Campfires should have a smoke trail to make them easier to spot

3.7k Upvotes

I like that you receive a 'Nearby campfire' buff when they are near, but it can still be hard to locate them on the ground. It would be cool if they have a smoke trial going up into the sky 20-40 feet to make them more obvious from a distance.

I would love you forever, Blizzard. The torch is awesome but as a druid, it just looks silly when we use it while in forms (which we spend a lot of time in, btw!).

Forever Beta Feedback Diminishing XP returns for repeated dungeon runs is a much better solution than the current Dungeon XP nerfs; its current iteration hurts both the social experience and long-term group availability and removes a significant amount of fun from the leveling experience.

I know this is Yet Another Post about the dungeon experience nerfs, but I hope we can maintain awareness of this issue and get a better solution from the developers than what has currently been implemented.

A better solution: Diminishing returns on all experience gains from repeated dungeon runs, with a return to original exp values for dungeon mobs on first runs. This would stop boosting but not make dungeons a waste of time for those who enjoy them or want to help others through repeated runs.

The problem is boosting and mindless dungeon xp grinding. The solution doesn't need to disincentivize running a dungeon more than once, it needs to encourage taking breaks from dungeons and penalize living in a single dungeon without a break. Boosters are going to have a hard time selling 1-off boosts and dungeon cleave groups will also find questing to be more rewarding than living in a single dungeon (Scarlet Monastery being the biggest offender) if they have to take a significant break between runs to restore full exp grinds.

The numbers would have to be worked out, and this solution has been discussed in other posts, but something as simple as requiring a 1 to 2 hour break between repeated runs to avoid significant experience nerfs would incentivize questing in addition to running dungeons sufficiently to maintain easy grouping while also removing the incentives for boosting and cleaving dungeons.

To add onto this, my personal experience in beta so far was that before they nerfed the quest rewards, I had a lot of fun running rfc then ROL and ran both repeatedly; then the xp nerf hit and I went to run WC (which I had saved to after the level 30 cap) and I just lost all enjoyment of the run when I saw how little XP I got in relation to how much time the run took in addition to how long it takes to get the quests ready to go. Currently, it'd be more fun and better to just solo quest grind than to run a Social Group in a Game where social grouping is the majority point of playing an MMO.

And this is important beyond my own game enjoyment; I've been speaking to a lot of my guildmates and they all agree that they are not going to want to heal or tank for anyone other than guildies as it currently stands. I also play both healers and tanks and I know that the thought of running these dungeons more than 1 time is not going to be something I ever want to do.

Please keep posting and giving this feedback; there are better solutions and the developers are listening, so please help the message reach them.

Edit: I compiled all the various better solutions to the problem in a post on the official threads here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/better-solutions-to-the-alleged-problem-of-dungeon-spam-leveling-than-what-has-been-currently-implemented/2372620

Forever Beta Feedback Druid cat form quest griefed - No-one has completed in 12+ hrs

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

EDIT - we did boys - fix deployed https://www.wowhead.com/forever/news/cat-form-druid-quest-bug-should-be-resolved-383157

The relics for the cat from quest have the same issue as the stopwatch in westfall. If more than 1 person tries to loot it at the same time it gives the "there is no loot" error.

Some greifers have set up bots spamming one of the relics. I've not seen anyone complete the quest in over 12 hours.

We've been unable to get the bots flagged for pvp or create a new layer. Just waiting on blizz to implement a fix now :(

Forever Beta Feedback Streamers should receive RMT bans for accepting gold just like any other player

1.6k Upvotes

Blizzard bans gold sellers, and they ban the players who accept the gold too. Doesn't matter if you "didn't know," doesn't matter if it was a friend, doesn't matter if it was 50g or 500g. That's the rule and most of us just live with it.

1. Blizzard can detect gold sellers. They wipe bot farms, trace the gold, and ban the accounts on the receiving end. And When its a streamer:

  • They see it and choose not to act.

2. Blizzard punishes the people who accept it. A regular player who takes gold from a stranger gets flagged and banned. Nobody gets a pass for saying "it was a gift." Gold moved in a way that isn't gameplay, and that's all Blizzard cares about.

So if it's option 2 and Blizzard knowingly doesn't ban streamers, that's not an oversight, that's tolerance. And if Blizzard is tolerating it means they are supporting it, but only for streamers (Since they explicitly choose to not ban them). That's unfair to every other player who gets punished for the exact same thing.

"But streamers get donations and random players usually don't." It shouldn't matter. The rule is about accepting the gold, not about how often it happens or how many people are watching. A random player who gets a donation is treated as a rule breaker, so a streamer should be too.

We can all agree it's not good for the integrity of the game when streamers get showered with free gold on stream. Treat everyone equally. Streamers should have to watch what they accept for free, just like any other player.

Whats your opinions?

This kind of dialogue from monsters works for the base-races of classic wow but it is absolutely hilarious when monsters call player "Windshaper Skyborne". Like, what? How do harpies in Barrens know the political and ideological divide between within the Skyborne society and guess which side of the argument do the player character belong to? They should just replace these dialogue with "Skyborne" so that it is less jarring.
