Discussion Attention Mods, please try to reduce off topic posts !
Please can we direct most of the Googlebook discussion to r/Googlebook ?
I joined this sub for information about Chromebook and ChromeOS, but in the last few weeks there appears to be more discussion about Googlebooks !
If a post has genuine crossover between the 2 devices, then of course it should be allowed, but some posters in some threads seem to be hijacking any discussion into their new favourite devices.
Does anyone else have the same opinion ?

No. The OS is essentially transitioning. The majority of people right now probably need to consume this information anyway. It will be happening over the next year and hardware that started on ChromeOS will likely end up running Googlebook OS. There’s not much point to filtering out information that relevant to this community of people.

I suspect only the very newest/high end, perhaps "Plus" Chromebooks will be updated to GooglebookOS. The rest will have ChromeOS updates for the rest of their support period, and who knows what that will look like, as I suspect Google will (probably... has) pulled engineers from ChromeOS.

That’s what I worry about. I think the plus ones will get the update first and they will trickle out support for others as they are able. I think Chrome OS is effectively a finished product that will receive security patches.

Yeah, it sucks. I have a Chromebook plus from 2024. i3 8gb 256gb. I hope it gets Googlebook os.
Otherwise, I doubt any new features on chrome os. Why would they when it's slated for the trash heap?

Yes and even for people that might not make the switch you aren't eligible the future of Chrome OS is being shaped by the existence of Google books in so much as if nothing else the Chrome specific Chrome OS specific development it's going to crawl slow to a crawl
Obviously any improvements to Chrome will be seen on these Chromebooks but the idea that they're going to spend a lot of money implementing new Chrome OS specific features...
So at least for now it would seem that any news about Google book is relevant to Chromebook users.
Might not always be that way but right now the distinction is so thin.

So if people keep posting about Windoze11 in a Windoze10 sub, would that be relevant ?
If a post is a genuine crossover, then that's fine, but shouldn't each OS have it's own sub ?

It did happen for at least few years. Google book OS still not even a month old in real world - at least a year later - i am sure everyone will agree to stop Googlebooks here.

I think while there are ChromeOS devices converting it is completely natural to keep this sub open for conversation on the new OS. At a later date when that’s not happening perhaps it would make sense to make a change.

But ChromeOS is supposed to be supported for the next 10 years?

The writing is on the wall. It’s too soon to say how it will shake out for many people/devices — hence why it makes sense why people will talk about it.

I think it's a little crazy to say these are off topic given that Chromebooks are going to be eligible to upgrade to Google book and they're not barely even releasing anymore Chromebooks for the time being
Maybe as the Google book project grows the distinction will matter more but for this matter the existence of Google books is basically the only news in Chromebook land

I didn't know there was a separate sub. I'll join it now, thanks for the headsup

I feel like a separation needs to happen, but not until we actually have googlebooks ready to use

Agreed. They said they will support Chromebooks for 10 more years. That's a long time from now.
