Announcement 2026 /r/CFB Rules Updates
The 2026 season is starting! As a reminder, you can find our rules here:
This is our biggest rules change in years!
Let's start with the one I know you're all excited about.
Standalone highlights posts are now allowed.
We're starting with a pretty liberal rule for what constitutes a highlight:
A highlight is a play or occurance at a game that has significant impact on the outcome of the game or that is, on its own, impressive.
You can read the full rules for highlights here but the highlights are:
- A given play only gets one highlight thread. Any alternative angles should be posted as replies to the pinned top comment.
- Highlights must to be hosted on an external, non-paywalled source.
- Highlights must be titled in the format
[Highlight] Visitor @/vs. Home - Neutral description of playeg:- Good:
[Highlight] Michigan @ Ohio State - Jon Smith Breaks 3 Tackles for 69 Yard Touchdown - Bad:
Ohio State vs TTUN - Jon "I am a god" Smith PWNS Three LOSERS for NICE TD
- Good:
Gambling posts are now prohibited
Posts about gambling including opening odds, odds changes, prop bets, and unusual wagers are no longer allowed.
Gambling news that directly effects CFB, such as policy changes or gambling activity by CFB participants will still be allowed.
Users should post original sources
Users are expected to make a good-faith effort to find the original source of anything they post. If the primary purpose of a post is to quote, clip, cite, or repeat another source, you should post that original source instead. This keeps us aligned with the Reddiquette.
Recruiting threads are limited to 4* and 5* players
Unrated or lower-rated players should be posted to /r/CFBRecruiting.
Players entering the transfer portal
We haven't decided what we're going to do with these posts yet. Based on last year we still have some time to decide. We will defintely post an update once we've made a decision.
More minor rules changes:
- Tweet titles An exception has been added to the current rule. If a tweet primarily consists of media, most notably uniform reviews, a neutral title describing the content of the tweet is allowed.
- News about committed recruits prior to enrollment is only allowed if it affects the player's enrollment or eligibility. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
- Editorialized Posts: Links should be posted on their own. If you wish to add commentary or context, do so in the comment section. OpenGraph titles (Reddit's title suggestions) are allowed. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
- Other phrasing clarifications: A number of other rules had their phrasing changed to be more clear. None of these resulted in policy changes.
Weekly Threads
Also note that our in-season weekly threads are coming back online for the season. This means that posts that were allowed during the offseason (realignment, etc.) will now be removed as reposts, and are now a great fit as top-level comments in their respective threads.
The /r/CFB team always works to meet the evolving needs of the community. Let us know any feedback you have in the comments!

Casual Both of Michigan’s losses are to former WMU head coaches.
PJ Fleck at Minnesota wins their first Jug at home in 50 years.
Tim Lester is Iowa’s Offensive Coordinator who beats Michigan using a last second forward pass of all things.
It would appear the MACtion gods did not take the clock situation well and are enacting their revenge for being wronged.

Discussion [Chris Hummer] There isn’t much parity in CFB so far this year. AP Top 25 teams are 85-6 against unranked teams. That 93% win percentage is the best this century, per CBS research.

Casual What’s a CFB tradition you’ve experienced that you just can’t truly understand until you’ve done it yourself?
I've been fortunate to be a part of many great experiences and traditions. For example, Jump Around at Camp Randall was awesome. Enter Sandman at Va Tech is pretty hype.
Yesterday, I got to the do the wave at Kinnick. It looks awesome on TV and is a cool story......but I can't emphasize how much people underappreciate this event until you take part in it. It was an AMAZNG thing to do, to see some kids with their families and caretakers going through an awful time smile and wave back.
Got me thinking, what other traditions out there are undervalued or harder to appreciate until you take actually take part in it?

Casual Message Board Geniuses mocked a Texas Tech fan for 'finding' CU Buffs playbook; turned out he was right
Viva Terlingua posts "I am in the CU team hotel and have the CU playbook" on Red Raider Sports forum.
Said a group were at the Colorado team hotel bar, and found a playbook that had game scripts for CU and Tech tendencies. Wanted to know how to get it to Tech coaching staff.
MBG tweets out a screenshot to mock Viva Terlingua.
The problem is, it looks like he was right, he had parts of the game script
A West Texas podcaster matched pages of the script to game video.

Opinion Bryce Underwood gets headlines, but Michigan’s failing run game is most shocking.
After Michigan’s 2023-24 national title, the QB play has been putrid but its run game persisted. I remember when Alex Orji threw for 32 yards and Michigan still beat USC 27-24 with 290 yards on the ground. That run game was also enough for the Wolverines to beat Ohio State and Alabama in an 8-5 season.
Worse-case scenario, I thought Michigan’s offense would be as good as that one this year, using a run-heaving playbook with many more QB runs and two highly-touted running backs.
But the offense looks even worse than 2024. Jordan Marshall is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and much-hyped Savion Hiter has 3.2 yards per rush. I know Underwood has been horrible and his uncatchable pass on the final fourth down was inexcusable but Marshall averaged 1.8 more yards per carry last year — with Underwood at QB.
So to call Underwood the sole culprit is simplistic. Even with no passing game, U-M should have had a 50-yard rusher against a WMU defense that featured fewer returning starters than the Michigan offense. Putting aside the talent discrepancy between a Big Ten and MAC program.
To reiterate, we know this isn’t all on Underwood because they look two-touchdowns worse than last year’s 9-4 team with Underwood as a freshman.
Underwood might be why this team could not be better than a 9-win team, but the coaching staff is why its currently worse. The FOX broadcast did a good job of highlighting how the OC is not calling plays to suit the linemen’s strengths. And Underwood has made numerous head-scratching moments, but so has the rest of this highly-penalized team.
Edit: Listening to Bruce Feldman who said Michigan has had one rush of more than 20 yards this year and had 24 last season.
