Spike James Marsters really knew what he was doing, didn’t he
King of body language and micro-expressions. I could watch him all day.

It was amazing when they started to show a bit of comedy side to Spike's character. Season 3 Episode 8 was so good.

Season 7 may get criticized, but I’ve always loved that final sequence in “Beneath You,” where an exhausted Spike asks for some rest.
I have to say, James Marsters is a very talented actor, and I would have loved to see him shine even more on screen.
He really has a command of the full range of emotions.
What did you think of that scene the first time you saw it?

When I used to have Tumblr, there was a trend to see Spike as a progressive, even feminist character compared to most other men on the show (I saw one rant about Angel and Riley being "patriarchal" while Spike represented liberation), and jokes about him being like "Buffy's girlfriend".
That's kind of fascinating to me, because in some ways, yes, Spike was arguably the only one of Buffy's boyfriends who was not paternalistic towards her, and really treated her equally in the field, and I think with every vampire there is an element of subversion and rebellion against societal norms. In fact, Spike's identity was largely based on that.
But misogyny and entitlement to women were also cruxes to his character, and I'm at loss as to how some people don't see it. Spike was not what today would be seen as a nice guy per se (like Xander sometimes is), but there was definitely an element of that, for me, in how we're meant to sympathize with him when he gets a soul for Buffy. It is probably the least "feminist" storyline.
Ho do some people NOT*

I’ve been working on this cross stitch since June ‘25. I’m a little over halfway now. This is the 2nd giant Buffy stitch I’ve made. Giles was my first. Trying to decide who’s next.

This goes both ways. Why does Harmony keep letting him treat her so badly? I get that she can be very annoying, but it still feels a bit unusual for Spike, who’s mostly soft with the other women in his life like his mother, Drusilla, Buffy, or even Joyce, to treat her that way.

I never noticed in all these years. The same spot that he has the eyebrow scar, you can see a piercing.

“I remember when I got told that we were going to be romantically paired,” Marsters says during a panel at Nightmare Weekend Cleveland 2025. “That was a problem for me, because I had come to think of Sarah as my sister. We had already shot a lot together, and I just loved her, and she drove me crazy sometimes as sisters do. And she loved me, and I drove her crazy as brothers do. And I was like, ‘I’m going to be kissing my sister. How am I going to do that?’ I spent all summer trying to figure it out, and I couldn’t do it. And we started filming that season, and I still hadn’t figured it out.”
He did get there eventually, however. You can read how here: https://www.thepopverse.com/tv-wb-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-spike-romance-james-marsters-sarah-michelle-geller-sister/

In a post about power levels, I read that Spike is above Angel in terms of abilities. Is he really, or are they both at the same level?
