The closer we get to release, the more likely it is that Doomsday is gonna make 100 million in pre sales alone

$400M domestic opening, let's go.

It’ll be past $100M in pre-sales by Thanksgiving weekend

18

u/Flipsyde97 14h ago

You mean $200M?

4

u/DatboiX 6h ago

I think Jat on twitter and BOT is predicting like $200M+ in pre-sales

5

u/IBM296 12h ago

Well that would be rather disappointing cuz Brand New Day had final presales of over $200 million.

5

u/alexolmo67 11h ago

Thought it was $150M? Doomsday could have final pre sales of $200M though and open to $400M

6

u/IBM296 10h ago

According to this post by Jatinder, BND had final presales of $200 million+

That number will keep going up. Average people will start looking at tickets and realizing all the shows from the first few days are full or near full, especially for premium formats. I could see the first 2 weeks doing huge numbers. Positive Reviews and word of mouth will carry it from there.

u/Gordy_The_Chimp123 13h ago

That’s 3 Diggers!

Anything below a $400M OW would be called "underperforming" at this rate.

What I'm most curious about is how much Dune is affected in all this. Capacity is the word that keeps being brought up and I have to imagine a lot of the standard theaters wanting a piece of the Avengers pie, which might eat through a lot of Dune's OW potential.
But I guess the brighter side is a huge potential for legs

29

u/NotTaken-username 14h ago

I think Dune 3 will open lower than the second movie, but have stronger legs and ultimately make more. Like maybe a $65M-$70M OW and a 4.5x multiplier off that

17

u/blue_ig1 14h ago

Most likely. It might make a surprisingly decent amount, but probably lower than Dune 2. I do think it’ll end up making more at the end of the run since it’s a conclusion.

3

u/Beach_Bum7836 6h ago

I'm surprised more people aren't factoring this in. the Finale factor can do wonders for a movie's box office--assuming it sticks the landing.

People that saw Dune 2 and enjoyed it will see that this is the concluding chapter, and it's your last chance to see a Dune film on the big screen (excluding rereleases), and will most likely turn out for it if it's good.

11

u/Antman269 14h ago

Yeah, basically a Sonic 3 situation since that also opened in December on the same day as a Disney blockbuster.

9

u/AvengingHero2012 14h ago

I don’t care about the IMAX exclusivity. Dune staying in December with this monster is a mistake.

11

u/PrestigiousFail5955 14h ago

I think it'll be like odyssey and spider man (I know odyssey was released 2 good weeks and dune is same day)

Where dune 3 will still make decent money but doomsday will blow it out of the park

3

u/lobonmc Marvel Studios 12h ago

Also like the odyssey I feel it's the legs where Dune will make the bulk of its money

2

u/PrestigiousFail5955 12h ago

I agree, doomsday will be frontloaded whereas dune like odyssey will have great legs because of imax. I still think dune should come out 1 week before to max out their money

2

u/Comic_Book_Reader 20th Century Studios 12h ago

I actually took a look at a couple of schedules when Doomsday tickets went on sale here in Norway not too long ago, and it appears Dunc is taken into account given that some of the screenings (Infinity Vision of course) are spaced apart as opposed Doomsday locking off that screen. We'll only have two weeks, however, as Dunc tickets are going on sale October 20 per one of the sites.

2

u/FartingBob 10h ago

I think anything that isnt contractually on lock for Dune is going to be going to Doomsday, no matter how screens a place has for opening weekend the demand is going to push every theatre to maximise Doomsday screenings. After OW im sure it will be slightly more balanced (as well as the other films already in circulation).

u/Nervous_Most_5585 14h ago

And over 70 days are STILL left, WOW.

The Christmas corridor will allow it to dominate the weekdays, its 2nd and 3rd weekend. Star Wars The Force Awakens will lose those records as well, unbelievable.

2

u/PayneTrain181999 Legendary Pictures 6h ago

And this is all WITH Dune.

Secret Wars could do even better.

-9

u/ChoppyOfficial 14h ago

That is going to depend on reviews. It is not going to have Star Wars TFA or Avatar type legs. No Way Home or a little better will likely be the performance for that movie. The higher the opening, the steeper the second weekend drop will be.

27

u/Nervous_Most_5585 14h ago edited 12h ago

Well, that is the thing, it doesn't need TFA or Avatar legs to achieve that.

Avengers Doomsday's opening weekend is going to be so big, especially compared to The Force Awakens (247M), that even with higher drops, it'll still be insanely likely to go through stronger dailies and 2nd wknd + 3rd wknd during the Christmas period.

WOM would need to be on the level of Eternals, The Marvels and Brave New World for it not to achieve this. I don't see that happening with this movie.

1

u/ChoppyOfficial 13h ago

The Secret Wars is going to break records.

12

u/The_32 13h ago

If doomsday gets good WOM, I don’t even think we’ll be able to predict how crazy Secret Wars is going to be received

3

u/Mar_ko47 12h ago

If doomsday is received well, secret wars could do 4b, or at least get close

9

u/NotTaken-username 14h ago

I think it’ll have legs like The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, about 2.8x-2.9x opening weekend.

6

u/ChoppyOfficial 13h ago

That is a very fair performance I can see. I can not see Doomsday having a 70% or more drop if the spoilers are that bad. A 40% or less drop will be tough to get because MCU movies other than GOTG and Black Panther do not operate like that.

25

u/AppropriatePurple609 14h ago

Another $2B to the Russo Brothers

9

u/RealityRepurposed 13h ago

I'm glad I pre-ordered my ticket because I checked the theater a few days ago for that showing and it's almost all sold out except for the front row.

2

u/XLauncher 11h ago

Yeah, I bought my ticket in...July, I think and I keep forgetting about it. I have much gratitude to my past self for having the foresight to pick up a good seat on release night.

16

u/SignatureOrdinary456 Pixar Animation Studios 14h ago

December 18th-20th 500M+ weekend.

25

u/Maatjuhhh 14h ago

How much did Endgame earn in presales? I see 120M in presales but that's for the worldwide opening, at least according to the internet. I can't find a figure for domestic.

36

u/Youngstar9999 Walt Disney Studios 14h ago

According to Deadline sources, before Avengers: Endgame flickers even one image on a movie screen ahead of its Thursday night previews nationwide, advance domestic ticket sales for the Russo Brothers-directed Marvel sequel are estimated to be north of $120 million, with some figuring they’re as high as $140M. These figures do not come from Disney.

https://deadline.com/2019/04/avengers-endgame-box-office-advance-ticket-sales-opening-weekend-records-1202599744/

This is from a few days before Endgame opend.

12

u/--Nightmare357-- 14h ago

I saw a thread that says BND was at $200M. Is the difference really that big?

12

u/Youngstar9999 Walt Disney Studios 14h ago

Jatinder said this a few days before BND opend:

SpiderManBrandNewDay has crossed $100M in pre-sales in North America for its opening weekend.

Only the seventh film in history to do so, and there's a lot more to come.

With three more days to go, all set to move to the 2nd spot just behind AvengersEndgame ($190M+).

10

u/--Nightmare357-- 14h ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/s/bW1XSBvPyj

Jatinder said it surpassed Endgame earning $200M+. It made over $100M in 3 days. So pre-sales are still counted even though the film is released.

-4

u/SnooAbbreviations460 14h ago

Maybe 57 million or is it other ?

Ask AI in Google germeni !!!!!!!

16

u/Flipsyde97 14h ago

$425M OW

$1.2B Dom

7

u/TheWallE 10h ago

Being over $35 Billion right now means the MCU has a chance to get to $40 Billion after Secret Wars… which would mean the MCU would have 40 movies and grossed $40 Billion, and average of 1 Billion per movie released… absolutely insane 20 year run.

9

u/John111coldplayer 14h ago

What's the highest pre-sale numbers before release btw? Is it ENDGAME? or maybe BND?

2

u/abellapa 14h ago

BND with 75M

9

u/--Nightmare357-- 14h ago

It's not 75M. Endgame was at $120-140M. BND I'm not sure.

-3

u/abellapa 14h ago

I heard BND broke The preview Domestic Record with 75M

7

u/--Nightmare357-- 14h ago

That was for the previews not the presales record

3

u/frustrated_supersum 13h ago

only domestic how much from that 60 million ?

8

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 12h ago

The entire 60 million is the domestic number

6

u/frustrated_supersum 11h ago

holy shit, it might reach 100 million before December

4

u/bRabb1t_ 11h ago

Endgame had more than $120M in presales, this might hit $200M, we're in uncharted waters here

8

u/KurtisLochman9010 14h ago

Not surprising. First guaranteed $3B movie incoming.

9

u/NotHarold8 Blumhouse 14h ago

I could see $2B but where does this becoming the first $3B film come from?

8

u/abellapa 14h ago

Because it can

Endgame has 3,5B with Inflation and did 2,8B because it had Heavy competition

4

u/HarlequinKing1406 Focus Features 14h ago

He's saying guaranteed though. If it's shite then it does nowhere near 3 billion.

8

u/abellapa 14h ago

Obsiously its not garanteed

Its garenteed to Make 2B and almost a sure thing to surpass Spider-man to Become the third highest grossing movie of all time

But does have a decent chance at 3B

1

u/SheepherderFun2258 6h ago

The 3hr run time and theaters having to share screens with another major movie are some obstacles. Endgame didn’t have to deal with the kind of direct competition that Doom will have. Theaters might break it down the 60% Doomsday and 35% Dune— that’s percentages not going towards Endgane

1

u/abellapa 6h ago

There no way it Will be only 60% Doomsday

Even so Inflation helps doomsday

Doesnt have to sell as Many tickets as Endgame to surpass it

In the US for example to surpass Endgame by One Million,(895M) doomsday would Need 77,8M tickets sold in the US

Endgame sold 93,6M tickets in 2019 , huge difference

-3

u/Alex-C2099 13h ago

What “heavy competition”? The UglyDolls movie?

5

u/abellapa 13h ago

Detective pikachu, John Will 3 , Godzilla kotm and Aladdin

Those movies put together made like 1,8B

2

u/PeterFile690 13h ago

Wouldn't bad reviews kill the hype though? A lot of people loved Spiderman Brand New Day.

-3

u/Alex-C2099 13h ago

Only if it’s Infinity War/Endgame quality. If it’s just around the same level of No Way Home, 2.5B

2

u/lookingforhim2 11h ago

$400M+ OW + holiday legs holy shit.

1

u/Alex-C2099 13h ago

Is this domestic or global?

9

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 12h ago

This thread is listed as Domestic

4

u/Alex-C2099 12h ago

Then I can’t imagine what the global pre-sales look like right now.

5

u/bRabb1t_ 11h ago

WW presales gotta have outgrossed Supergirl by now 😂

5

u/Individual_Client175 Warner Bros. Pictures 11h ago

Yeah, it should be at least 100-120 million

Backrooms isn't an original movie anyway

11

u/Illustrious_Berry_50 14h ago

Endgame Encore is carried by OS btw…

6

u/TigerGroundbreaking 14h ago

It did pretty well domestically all things considered

4

u/Significant-Cloud-19 14h ago

2026 is very interesting year so far. So many bombs and record breaking movies. There's also a middle ground success movies. Seems pretty well balanced year at the box-office. Also great year for horror films as well.

5

u/JessicaRanbit 14h ago

The problem with your statement is this is having bonker presales in different countries and will more than likely be very OS heavy. So it's not just "Americans"...

3

u/TyLion8 14h ago

Bruh you are dumb af if you think its only Americans that love franchise slop..

0

u/Samsun88 14h ago

Moviegoers love a good time in the theatre.

If an original is good, people will go, like they did for Obsession.

What your comment implies is people love franchise over originals.
No, people like a movie that gives them a good time, be it franchise slop or original.
You are not better for liking an original because it’s more intellectual or whatever shit you try to attribute them to have.
Hate this kind of smug take.
