My wife and I have wanted a dedicated board gaming table for our basement for a long time. We finally built one together, and I wanted to share some pictures of how it came together.

The base is a 220 × 105 cm spruce panel, 27 mm thick, which we had cut to size at a local hardware store. We ordered the metal legs from Amazon and bought the fabric for the playing surface from a local fabric shop.

The frame and accessories are 3D-printed parts from Gameframe. We went with black for the frame and gold for the trays, cup holders and corner dice towers. The printed parts use almost 20 kg of filament altogether. We also added an LED strip around the inside edge.

Here is our material cost breakdown:

- Wooden tabletop: €150

- Table legs: €109

- Fabric: €52

- Gameframe parts: €238

- LED strip: €30

- Total: €579

One of my favourite additions is a separate wooden panel that sits on small supports above the main playing surface. We can leave a board game set up underneath and use the upper level for miniature games. The game below stays visible and accessible.

There is also comfortably enough room for War of the Ring and all its bits, which was a pretty good test for us!

Putting it together bit by bit was a fun project to share. Having our own gaming table down in the basement feels like a little dream come true.

I personally dont know of any board game that has as big of a decision space and as much depth, packed in a very short playtime as rftg. Not to mention the game is absurdly tightly balanced and many games often end in a 1-2 VP difference or even tied. For those of you that play or have played games similar to it, have you found any that do what it does best or come close? I have yet to play dune imperium or terraforming Mars but I heard good things about those two games.

As for now though I will continue to be addicted to rftg and play it daily on boardgamearena, just over 1400 games now and still craving it daily.

Can you come up with a stronger board than this one?

Found at a thrift store. Looks like something off an old Chinese restaurant table. Can't find much info on the game or how to play at all. The dice on springs do not have any markings. The boards are under glass and have no features on the backside.

I recently got game of thrones the board game second edition and I have been reading about how it's not balanced with less than 6 players

Saw feast for Crows expansion fixes that for 4 players but I can't seem to find it anywhere

Is there a printable version or anything that can help me play with 4 players

And any advice on the best way to get into the game

For context:

- I usually play with my boyfriend and I have about a 20% winrate. The games I win are 50/50 games that I make a good game and games that he makes bad games. When I play with him and I lose, I lose by A LOT often.

- When I play with more people (he is always present) I might have a slightly lower winrate. But that's okay, as we are more people so more chances of not winning or being the last one.

- In Magic: The Gathering (we are the same 4 when we play) I have won 1 game out of 12 that we had)

- We play Eurogames only (and Magic).

So, my question here is:

How can I minimize the extreme frustration I feel when I constantly lose BY A LOT?

I don't really play to win, I play to have fun and do nice combos in the table. But when I lose BY A LOT, constantly, I am starting to feel extremely frustrated.

I am NOT asking how to win. I understand it is a skill issue. I just want to know how to handle the frustration of not being able to at least get close to the same score as my boyfriend.

Did this happen to any of you? If so, how did you overcome it?

I am very worried I will continue to get more and more frustrated and stop enjoying playing with him. Because I really enjoy doing so.

Got absolutely crushed today by a BGA veteran with over 100 games under their belt. Oh right, including today, my total play count is exactly 2. Gotta keep at it! 😂

On a very high level, you’re drafting pieces from a shared central market and then fitting them onto a personal board.

However, Azul feels very vicious compared to the other two games I mentioned, and I can’t quite figure out why.

My theory is that because Azul has rounds, one of the things up for grabs is turn order, even if that means you have to take a piece you don’t have space for.

My other theory is that because you’re only picking one color and discarding the others, the discard pile can either help the other players a lot or have them holding a color that’ll give them a load of negative points.

EDIT: a third theory has hit. Because you score Azul at the end of each round, your strategy and decisions can change round to round, wherein you can draft tiles such that opponents are stuck with a bunch of negative points thereby creating a neat little tug of war, whereas Harmonies and Cascadia seem to have a bit of an opaque scoring system wherein it can take until the end to determine who’s winning

I watched a gameplay video of it and I kinda understood it but I fear my group might not have the patience. I would say their level at the moment is “light-medium”, games like Lords of Vegas, The Estates, Quest for El Dorado, Harmonies. Container seems a level above that.

Also, what do you guys think about the game in general? Is it every man for himself or do you have to somewhat work together?

Not counting TCGs or miniature games where tournaments are common, are there board games that commands regular tournament scenes?

I played RPA today since ages, book 4 this time. It started with a lot of stuff I didn't remember, something with a temple. Then i missed several purple texts but finally pieced together that I should have had the 4 items. Using one on the last chapter opened 2 more areas, and one of those opened a third.

But in that third area illusionary knights push me back. Seems I need the keyword VANISHED, but I can't find it in the book. Anyone knows which entry gives "record the keyword VANISHED"?

I just sleeved my copy of John Company: Second Edition, and now the box is a bit of a mess. Everything fit so neatly with the original insert, but with the cards sleeved I’m not sure how to organize everything efficiently.

I looked around for a 3D-printable insert or other storage solution, but I haven’t found much specifically for sleeved cards.

For those of you who have sleeved your copy, how are you storing everything? Are you still using the original insert, did you modify it, or are you using a custom/3D-printed solution?

Which figure do you find the hardest to build?

I’m looking at this game to add to my collection, as well as the Winds of Change expansion. I usually “try before I buy”, but I haven’t been able to try this one (no one I know has it, and it’s not available to rent at my FLGS). It seems to tick a lot of boxes for what I like in a game, such as:

1 . Flexibility- can play 2-6, or 1-6 with an expansion, and can be competitive, yet semi cooperative, or fully cooperative or solo with the expansion. I commonly need to play games with 5-6 players, but also frequently play at 3-4.

1. Thematic

2. Replayability- randomness of card draws and the ability to play with asymmetrical player powers or change city area abilities with the expansion seems to give this game a lot of varied experiences.

I’ve read BGG reviews, and watched YouTube reviews, and I think this may be a good fit for me. I try to keep my collection relatively small, and I’m nearing my limit for my max # of games.

Absolutely loved the game. Played in over two days and enjoyed every minute of it.

I know I can now re-play it but it feels like I kinda have to now choose all the “bad” options (at least the way I played it).

That kinda kills the cozy vibe for me. I don’t want to be the mean industrialist that ravages the land.
I’m unsure if I want to start the second playthrough now.

How did you handle your second playthrough?

I recently caved and got the #1 on BGG and it does live up to the hype! The problem is the setup. Not that it’s long, but sorting all the industry tiles every play is not fun at all.

I have a 3D printer and after a lot of research, I decided to design my own insert from scratch. The main thing is solving the setup by holding all industry tiles inside trays that themselves fit inside organizers in the box. Every organizer has a removable tray for the link tiles.

For the text, i used the font used for the title, and on the back of all 4 organizers, I placed a little surprise that you won’t see that often, but is still a cool party trick.

Had the printer for about 9 months now and finally let go and threw away my collection of tiny baggies!

I have amassed a large Dominion collection and 7 Wonders plus all expansions and promos for the first edition.

Is there an easy way to design a big box for these? I want actual Board game boxes that can fit in a Kallax, not a big wooden container that you usually see for Dominion, and as for 7 Wonders, I don't think they even have a Big Box of any sort.
