braves were down 3 starters basically all year (strider, schwellie, and reylo) then lost Perez and Elder pretty much a week or two before the season ended.
our bullpen has been our strength all year, it's a bold strategy but so far.....
this is the braves 3rd bullpen game in a row.

Its crazy that in a bullpen game for the Braves, the Dodgers ended up using more pitchers.
43

Considering the combo of Snell and Dave Roberts I am not surprised.

After all the hullabaloo the Braves find themselves basically in a best of three with home field advantage and their ace ready to go. Gamble certainly paid off so far at least.

Sale and Mahle vs Yamamoto and Glasnow...if you like offense, don't watch
→ More replies (1)62
u/The_Krytos_Virus Seattle Mariners 1h ago
Right? It's almost like the coaching staff knows better what choices to make than a bunch of clueless chuds watching from home. They trusted Sale to close out the Wild Card game and they trusted Kerr, Fuentes, and the rest of the bullpen to cover game 2. They made it to the post season for a reason and it wasn't because they are clueless, lol.

I will admit I was/am the doom and gloom “wtf is Walt doing”, but I stand corrected. That’s why he’s the skipper, but damn he makes some odd calls. Glad it works out.
16
u/OnlyForBaseball Pittsburgh Pirates • Sickos 1h ago
Obviously it all looks great with hindsight now that they won the game, but I really think he made the right moves from a process standpoint too.
Like, I don’t have the analytics he has access to, but just from the eye test you could tell it wasn’t just a couple bad breaks for Holmes. He didn’t have it, and Weiss got him out of there before any serious damage could be done.
He let Kerr go longer than I would have expected, but he knew the matchups he wanted
He got the matchups he wanted for Lee, even though he didn’t deliver
He put in Suárez despite it only being the 6th inning to put out the only real fire the Dodgers had going
Let Fuentes keep rolling, and had Iglesias ready to lock it down.
Idk, I was very impressed. Even pinch hitting Tellez, which I thought was batshit, ended up being in the most optimal possible circumstances and it worked out great.
I think if nothing else, this postseason is showing us that you can and should push your pitchers harder than they’re used to in the regular season as long as you’re willing to pull the escape hatch at any time cough Stammen cough
These guys can handle it, and if they can’t they’ll show you very quickly if you’re paying attention

Wait, what? The rules literally say it's up to the official scorer's discretion which reliever was most effective if the pitcher of record when the winning team took the lead for good had a short and/or ineffective appearance. I don't think there's any argument who that person is, and I don't think there's any argument that recording two outs while allowing a run should be seen as effective or efficient. That should be changed to Fuentes.
93
u/Either_Imagination_9 New York Yankees 1h ago
I literally said when Muncy hit the homerun: that’s probably better for the Braves that he did that and didn’t get on base

The Dodgers are looking vulnerable. Definitely nowhere near as dominant as all these talking heads through they'd be.

But then we've been vulnerable for the PAST TWO YEARS and we've won titles then.

If Michael Harris sees pitches, he gets hits.
The LAD are definitely vulnerable because of the guys coming off injuries; but, their depth of talent and post-season experience is still going to be tough to beat.
The fanbase of the rest of the league hate the LAD because they're buying up the best talent in baseball; but, the guys in the line-up are actually all likable guys lol.
